We are all assuming that Teague will be given his marching orders after this weekends match, and that Lyon will be announced as our next coach. It's all out there in the media, everyone's talking about it. But what if Clarko doesn't want to discuss his future coaching aspirations until the season is officially finished for the non-finals clubs. I'm hoping this is the case and there is still a chance he will agree to coach us. It's not over until the fat lady sings.... Oooohhh!
Lyon on FC said Caro was on the money. Believes Clarko is probably favourite for our coaching job, although he would consider it if the vacancy existed.
I tipped this!!! 😁

What is Rosco supposed to say in his position?

Don't be naive friends Ross is our next coach..

He is our guy. Trust me. And I am excited.
Don't mind it as such, but how long does he realistically have (or clarkson) before we need to look for another coach? 5 years?

My god, what an absolute con job the board has done to the wider public. It’s been so obvious with these draconian tactics. We wanted finals, we didn’t get it but this is just grandstanding from some of the lowest hanging fruit. The review was predetermined, the players look as confused as anyone out there because the distancing and isolation from the club is borderline abuse. What a terrible period for the club I love. I see a lot of Manchester United with us but they stuck by their gaffer and will reap the rewards from it. The pressure this will put on our players will be so immense and they will fold, they will rebel and the supporters will absolutely lose it. I hope we win 17 with this playing group but it won’t be with this current board at the helm. They don’t have an iota of an idea on what it takes to build stability and trust. The days are far gone of boards treating players and support staff as mere chess pieces. I’m sick and tired of the musical chairs. I’m over what this board has been selling. We need to see a structured and united strategy to will ourselves back to the promised land. We do not need a messiah.

I'm 100% behind Ross Lyon now...

Has now publicly stated he is keen, has a very good history and his words "chemistry" with the Carlton Football Club..
Also seems to have a burning desire for a flag, is the hard nosed no nonsense coach our players need and is loved and respected by most of his past players...

Clarkson doesn't seem from the outside mentally ready yet to move on from Hawthorn, to be the coach we need...

There's that curious statement again - a 'burning desire for a flag', which implies that some coaches don't have the same desire for a flag. I would find that very surprising indeed.

Is there anyone at all that thinks the board will back Teague with more support next year?

I don't think they will, but if that's what the review says then they sure as shit better do it. We will never really know either way... and my own feelings are that we need more experience in every part of our footy department, with no exceptions for any position, so Lyon or Clarkson fit the bill absolutely.

This going to sound strange, but Clarkson is the better coach than Lyon, history shows that. But right now Ross is the best coach for Carlton.

Ross has shown he can finish, he has done it twice, yes neither lead to ultimate success, but when you are within a bounce of a ball & poor shots at all away from a premiership at two clubs you can coach.

Clarkson has shown at one club he can build it up and get there himself.

I think we have the majority of the pieces and closer to St Kilda/Freo when Ross took over, than Hawthorn when Clarkson took over.

FC was fascinating Ross basically put his cards on the table, he wants to coach Carlton and only Carlton, he shut down Collingwood fast. That shows he has the passion and desire

Clarkson hasn’t done that (hard to he is coaching Hawthorn) but even comments from ITK’s and the media indicate that it’s more us wooing him, than him itching to coach Carlton next year or even coach at all.

Ross has had a break, coaching has to be stressful, surely a break is good to refresh (assuming here). Also being in the media has to surely give you a different perspective on coaching and even handling the media.

Clarkson has been in it without a break for almost 20 years. Most people don’t do that with their 9 to 5 job & I’d guess being an AFL coach is more stressful than most of our 9 to 5 jobs.

So again, right now, I just feel that yes Clarkson is one of the best coaches of all time, but where Carlton is right now, Ross fits better

Not that you can compare the EPL to the AFL - where the best teams can literally go buy the oppositions best player - but the manager of a top club would never get more that 2-3 years to build something, so rest assured if OGS doesn’t win some silverware this year and/or finish outside the top 4 (which is the equivalent of having a year like Teague has this year underachieving against expectations) he will be out on his ear ASAP.

Also we wish we were united, in reality we are Everton, and as a Liverpool fan both options are terrible 🤢

Ross was given 2 golden gooses with the lists at Saints (Thomas was sacked after making finals) and Dockers and did well to make GF's

Never did the hard yards with any of those sides, which is fine, but did suck the life out of both lists at the time of his departure
Totally disagree. Lyon squeezed every last drop out of the Saints. They had an average bottom 8 players in Grand finals and nearly won a flag

I don't get this. Was it predetermined, or was it based on not getting finals? Take away the mathematical possibilities and hoping other teams bottled their chances of securing a Top 8 spot, and the lack of progression in this group would be cause for concern. It wasn't prompted by Clarkson suddenly becoming available.

I don't see a lot of United in us at all. In Ole's second full year as manager, he's reminded the playing group what it means to play for United, gotten to the Europa League final, finished 2nd and shown progress that's enticed the likes of Varane and Sancho. In Teague's second season, the club have failed to improve standards, failed to mitigate periods of unanswered goals, failed to take a contending team scalp, failed to capitalise on an opportunity to enter the Top 8, let alone make finals. We're closer to Arsenal. A club that used to be big and is now irrelevant, managed poorly at all levels of the club.

If the board wanted to play scapegoat, they'd pin it all on Teague and call it a day, and I'd share your disappointment if that's all the review did. From recruitment, development, team selection, game day tactics and injury management, there's a whole host of factors that need to be improved. I'm bemused how you think a 'structured and united' strategy could be formed without undertaking a review.

This isn't a Malthouse situation. Whoever comes on board isn't inheriting a team that's played finals, won elimination finals, hoping to cement a spot in the Top 4 after an injury ravaged season. They should be coming in with eyes open to the fact this team hasn't built winning habits or the belief they're a finals worthy side.

I really liked the way Ross and Caro spoke on FC. Both Clarkson and Ross are by far the best candidates ahead of the field and both sound keen from all reports. The Carlton coaching position is currently in demand.
Can you give supporting evidence that Clarko is keen...at least keen to coach us? I haven't picked that up. Feels like he is saying no to us.
