The lack of love for Carr here is deluded:

1. What we need more than anything is a change in attitude. We need a hard nut, competitive coach. Josh ticks that box.

2. The idea Josh is tainted by Ken is the delusional bit. As assistant, it’s his job to toe the line. He can’t come out in a presser and say “Ken’s not tough enough”, “Ken made a wrong call” etc. Josh was and is a team first person. But the view that Josh won’t do things differently
  • has no evidentiary basis
  • defies logic that he would not try and change things after a failed coach
  • forgets that above all Josh is a winner and leader- 10/10 Showdown record, that all important first goal in a premiership, a premiership as a coach with basket case North Adelaide playing young guys

3. He knows the players and has an existing relationship with them putting him well ahead of the alternatives. Because we are in a premiership window, that’s important.

4. He knows and loves Port- he has come back twice. He could’ve had the Richmond job.
I’ve been in a similar position to Carr and couldn’t wait to change pretty much everything the moment I could. Took a few years to make the changes though.

spoke to a north footballer tonight, who was coached by carr, "he is the best". does not take any rubbish & will drop you to the ressies if you do not do the team thing.

might change my mind>>>>

In all seriousness - if we limp into finals the idea the board goes ‘tick’ for next year worries me.

I have no doubt they know the masses are unhappy, all forms of social media want him gone.

But then again….

They’ll probably give Ken a pass because it’s one of the closest races for the 8 in some time, so unlucky!

Don’t put it past them.

I have a line through Carr as our midfield is pretty average it's pretty clear that he did nothing for Fremantle

Are the attributes you look for in a midfield coach the same as the attributes you look for in a senior coach? I'd say they're two very different roles requiring very different skillsets.

The debut press conference of Schofield as WCE coach, his very small comment of his time as an assistant here gave a fair bit of insight as to what it's like under Ken.

So definitely not writing off Carr yet

Post match or the one before the game?

If it wasn't for those annoying other teams we would have made it but someone has to miss out.
“It’s an even competition by design, who are we to try and buck the trend?” - Ken Hinkley pre Saint Kilda at Marvel, 2024

Dean Cox (Sydney)

The champion ruckman is the early frontrunner given his reputation, West Coast pedigree and previous working relationship with Eagles CEO Don Pyke, who will play a prominent role in selecting the new coach. A 2006 premiership player with the Eagles, Cox started his coaching apprenticeship as a playing ruck coach in 2014 and graduated to stoppages and midfield coach roles after retiring. He was sought by Geelong before joining the Swans in 2017 and now oversees game strategy and performance. The six-time All Australian and game-changing ruckman looked likely to be an eventual successor to John Longmire in Sydney, but an immediate opportunity at his former club could prove tempting.

Brett Montgomery (Greater Western Sydney)

Over 16 years as an assistant coach, Montgomery has been involved in several successful rebuilds and most recently played a key role in taking the Giants from 16th in 2022 to a preliminary final in the club's first year under Port Adelaide premiership teammate Adam Kingsley. The 51-year-old has been strongly endorsed by Kingsley and is ready to explore senior opportunities. His duties with the Giants include the backline, team defence, and most recently the club's leadership program, which is designed to foster team connection, culture, and personal growth. Has held previous roles with Carlton, the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide.

Jarrad Schofield (West Coast)
The Eagles' caretaker has seven games in the hot seat to further his case after being chosen to take over from Simpson this week. Schofield's apprenticeship is one of the more diverse among the contenders, starting at WAFL colts level at Subiaco before winning three premierships from five Grand Finals as the Lions' league coach. He blends a hard edge and accountable style with strong relationships and a personal touch. He is also viewed by colleagues as a sharp tactician after roles as Port Adelaide's midfield coach and the Eagles' strategy and stoppages coach. The 49-year-old, who won a premiership with the Power in 2004 and has an eagle eye for the little details, has excellent relationships with West Coast's young players and brings a clean slate to the list having joined after the 2018 premiership era.

Josh Carr (Port Adelaide)

While the Power assistant would be among the frontrunners for the Eagles job if he made himself available, it is more likely he will stay settled in Adelaide rather than returning to WA, where he spent part of his playing and coaching careers. Carr has been Ken Hinkley's deputy for the past two seasons and is slated to eventually take over from the 12-year coach. The former Fremantle and Power premiership tagger, who did not go through the Richmond process last year, has been building his resume for 14 years after starting with the Power as an assistant in 2011. He was crucial in shaping the Dockers' young midfield under Justin Longmuir and has coached his own team at SANFL level, leading North Adelaide to a premiership in 2018.

3 of them being Port people is the real kick in the balls!

Especially if it ends up being a Clarkson and Hardwick repeat.

We aren’t making finals this year so there’s a chance!

talks about not being the final decision maker in his first year at Port

And that's how it would be at any organisation. You can give your advice to the head of the food chain but they make the final decision.

If anyone thinks that is a criticism of Hinkley, then they've run off the rails. There's plenty to criticise, but being the final decision maker isn't one of them.

I get that, but just from the way Schofield delivered that comment seemed like he was confirming what we already know or speculated, especially the finals confrontation between him and Ken.

So Rockliff for arguments sake, isn’t chasing or working defensively, isn’t spreading away from stoppage and his GPS numbers are low. Atley is in a rich vein of form, we need to make this change.

No.
_______

A few weeks later, lose a final. Rockliffs opponent Best on and we are out.

Jared how have you not been able to get Rockliff to buy in defensively?

You get what you deserve.

Next week Schofield packing his bags.

Ah yes, I too agree that the reason we didn't win the 2020 premiership is because we didn't play Joe Atley enough.

Lets say they move on Ken like we all want, how the
hell do they sell a Josh Carr transition and take over?

You just can't sell in house appointment rubbish in these circumstances to a supporter base that's already had a gutful of your governance.

It’ll just be drown out by ‘how retro and cool is teal this week’.

Just a hypothetical example of Daddy unwilling to budge on who should play instead of what the metrics and data may have been informing the match day committee.

Names are irrelevant, it’s the culture built over time under the care of the current coach. Very much like Choco’s Gold Pass methodology, however that was usually reserved for Premiership players.

Shouldn’t have to sell it. Announce the selection panel/committee, announce you’ll leave no stone unturned to find the best candidate for the job. Be seen to be interviewing candidates for a few weeks. Announce Carr and his Support staff, thank Ken, CD, Chad, Jordan and whoever else is cut away for their service and passion for the club. Then get into making the changes to the list Josh sees fit.
