Could the slow start be due to preparing for the next month?

More likely a result of the late start to the preseason / season.

If Bevo is the Gregg Popovich mastermind I think he is, he just wants us to do the bare minimum in these easy games. I can see us turning it on this Friday

If Webb and Williams are in the same team I think we'll do well.

Fergus to debut against Richmond and kick 4.

Hopefully playing better opposition will bring out the best of us, but I'd be content with 6-4 at the bye then we will be getting a lot of best 22 players back in the side for 2nd half of the season

Well in round 23 last year we got beaten by an ordinary Fremantle outfit on their home deck and limped into the finals with average form. We were supposed to lose every one of the next four games but didn't.

I don't think 4-0 is beyond us. More importantly our boys think the same thing. They believe and won't be afraid of any of them. If we switch on we can beat anyone anywhere.

Throw in Saints in Round 10.

Will be happy with 3-2 in those 5 weeks and 7-3 into the Bye.
This is pretty much it, if we can get to the bye round at 7-3 we're in as good as position as anybody for the run home given who will come back in to the side. 6-4 still very acceptable anything less then yeah I'm not sure.

There are arguments you could make for any of the teams:

GWS - they're playing in Canberra, so both teams are on the road. And they have proven themselves vulnerable to pressure in the past, and capable of believing their own hype. Will be super keen to make amends for the PF loss, I expect them to be the toughest test of the four.
West Coast - missing NicNat, and almost got rolled by St Kilda over there. Flat track bullies who can be jumped. We seem to like playing in the west atm, hopeful
Geelong - will not have played a single Top 8 team by the time they get to us (and by the team we get to them WE may not be a Top 8 team too!) So could be in 2nd gear. We will be looking to knock off the cats curse, would have last time without the injuries. Our kicking might decide this one
Richmond - They're Richmond. Pfffft, who have they played? It would be totally richmondy of them to beat the premiers though, we should win this one but...its Richmond so anything could happen.

But yeah, i think our chances begin and end with where our heads are at.
My comments added above.

2:2 Id be happy. I like the fact that we seem a bit hawthorny atm, winning the tight ones, coming from behind, we seem to finally have a winning attitude. That could ddeliver 3-4 wins from this lot - who knows?

Gonna be a fun four weeks though.

Not looking forward to the melts if we get towelled up.

Hitting GWS right now i think is the best thing for us. Either of two things happens.
1. We pull our finger out and rise up to the occasion of a big match against a top 4 team. Even if we dont win i'll be happy to see us play well
2. We get smashed because we will play as we have been. Giving us a big wake up call.

Both will help us

Lose all 4 - unlikely
1 - 3- given the way we are playing more than likely
2 -2 - I'd take that
3-1 - I'd bite your hand off to take that
4- 0 - why wait? Put the statue of Bev outside Whitten Oval ASAP

GWS - No shame in losing to the kissed on the dick lovechild of AFL house. My granny could coach them to a prelim at minimum and she's been cold in the earth for 20 years. Still, they don't like playing us. We play better when we're underdogs. Hopefully they'll fire up big Tom Boyd. It takes a lot to wake him but they managed it last time. Hope Libba winds up Shaw again, think the poor bloke actually is 80c short of a dollar in the brains dept. but there's no harm in reminding him. If we can't beat them I hope Zaine jumps for a mark and 'accidentaly' knees Toby Greene in the back of the head. I respect Toby as a footballer but not as a human being.

Richmond - good to see the most passionate but fickle fans have jumped back on board the tigger train but premierships are rarely won in April. Would be great to bring them down a peg or two, they'll be pissing and sooking about the coach by June. Jake Stringer to outshine Dusty. I can't take Richmond seriously but they are playing well.

Eagles away - I wonder if any Eagles fans lurking on the board would like to remind us of what happened last time we played them at their home? Pretty much all of you predicted that you were going smash us out of sight, I recall. I hope Jack Darling found a decent sports psychologist over the holidays.

Geelong away - We always lose to Geelong especially down at that bloody place. My most miserable afternoon in footy was spent there watching Darcy do his ACL as I was surrounded by drunk mouth-breathing yokels. Would be great to get one over on them but unfortunately they've started the season in shit hot form.

1 and 3 for me, 2 and 2 would be fine.

It's a difficult one for me. This team is and has been so different since 2015 that all normal thoughts are irrelevant.

We could go anywhere from 0 - 4 to 4-0 and i would not be surprised. And with either result or anything in between i am not sure how that translates to where we finish at the end of the year.

I was always used to being let down or disappointed either during or at the end of the season. Now this month will be what it will be lets just win 10 more to guarantee finals and we.can worry from there

If we play the way we've been playing in the 3rd quarter, we can go 4-0, but if we start slowly against those teams we might end up 0-4. Richmond FWD Line is so dangerous and EFFICIENT, our FWDs haven't been efficient lately, and against the top teams this will prove costly.

I'd say 2-2, Losing to the Tigers and the Eagles

I'm thinking we will still be trialling game style and players in different roles for parts of games, especially in first halves.

We are nowhere near knowing what our best combination is yet.

Bevo won't want to show all his hand.

I'm guessing there will be a game where we try to put it all together, but who knows ....maybe the Cats' game.

I'm thinking 2-2 (or 1-3) but am unconcerned as long as we are competitive and do not lose self belief.

It's pretty obvious that the handball club has been adopted by a number of teams. We do look vulnerable to those who win the ball at stoppages and then flip the ball about on fast run. Our battle will be whether we have the players to combat it, especially in being able to prevent the ball getting away from contests and out the back so easily. Oppositions have become more adept at applying pressure on the ball carrier and stifling our attempts to extract / distribute. The question then arises as to whether clubs are now doing what we did in 2016 but better, and whether we are being rendered less effective in doing what we are trying to do.

I hope Libba can influence more midfield contests and lift his inside intensity for big games. He is our most important player, used by Bevo to increase pressure when we really have to dig deeper. When he isn't in the guts or doesn't fire we do look a bit pedestrian. On the other hand, it is important to get all players who will roll through our midfield to be proficient and skilled in adapting to our game plans under the hottest of pressure.

You claim we don't look fit enough yet it is our 2nd halves and final quarters in particular winning us games. I'm confused.
I know it sounds odd but I'm just going off what I see.... we sometimes seem to be unable to run and pressure as hard as we did last year and even though we have managed to come back in the second half the last 2 weeks, there have been many times when I've seen players labouring that I can honestly say I didn't notice last year.

So while it sounds contradictory I actually think we are falling behind due to a lack of intensity and fitness but we have the class against weak teams to fight our way back and still win the game. But if we don't fix the problem starting tonight I worry about what will happen over the next month.

I hope we see a difference tonight.

Go Dogs!!

Disappointing not to get the result last night and start this block well!

Must win 2/3 otherwise risk losing touch with top 4.

A 2 day extra break v the Tigers is a good start
