They (the AFL) should only include premierships from 1990 in the offical records for the AFL (when the VFL came the AFL) and have a sub category of VFL premierships. Has to be more even, times have changed and travel is involved in the national game.

Yes the Lions were very good in their three premierships, but the fact is that the Pies did win four.
Now before you go off and say different era blah blah blah, yes it was. The game was different, but you can only beat whoever you are put up against.

It's impossible to compare them really because they were 70 years apart, but in the end the one statistic that cannot be disputed is that Pies won 4 and the Lions won 3. Take nothing away from the Lions, but those are the cold hard facts.

I think that although the Hawks joy was during the metamorphism of VFL to AFL and adding that it is my opinion that anything within a quarter of a century or a “Current Generation” could fall within the realms of a so called, “Modern Era”, the Hawks figures over a longer period of time stack up better than the Lions.

I base this on the best 10 year period by either club, within, my so called the modern era, so fook off Smidazz123 and Ron the pies roll was an other era and no correspondence should be entered.

In the 10 years from 1982 to 1991 inclusively, Hawthorn never missed the finals, the lowest they finished was 5th played in 8 grand finals, 7 of them in a row and won 5.

In comparison, in the best 10 year period of 1995 to 2004 by the Bears/Lions we only missed the finals once, yes Smidazz123, like your pies in the same period, we also won a spoon but add to that, 9 finals, 4 grannies and 3 Cups in a row.

Simple arithmetic suggests within the said best ten-year period.
Hawks in 6 yearly periods are better than the Bear/Lions 4 yearly periods.
Finals appearances, Hawks 10/10 v Bear/Lions 9/10 [the one missed a spoon]
Premierships, Hawks 5 from 8 appearances, Lions 3 from 4.
Premierships in a row Lions 3, Hawks 2.

Using any period of 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, and 5 years within each clubs best 10 years, suggests the Hawks “Dynasty” could be ranked in front but arguably I am in agreement with Maroon and Blue’s analogy of the 3 Aces and still rate the Lions above the Hawks, yes purely because of the unlikely hood of another 3peat in the next era.

All i can say is i would have loved to have seen a hypothetical match between the Hawks side of the 80's and the Lions circa 2001-04. It would have been a good match. Both were exceptional sides and lets leave it at that

Iwould love a computer geek to feed all the finals match data into a computer and see a what it spits out like they did years ago best ausssie cricket side verses best england side Bradman scored two in the first inns and a big double in the second
