So if we do end up winning the minor premiership all 83 of us who voted got it wrong!

Btw re finishing 1 v 2 ... there have been various times over the last few years (ie since we and finals got re-aquainted) where one side of the draw has been hideously evil (the side we were on of course) and the other side looked pretty much like a cakewalk (for someone else not us) ... was there any pattern as to which side was the evil one (and if so was it the side that 1 or 2 played on) or does it vary a bit?

Basically is there a benefit involved these days in first or is second actually a better place to land?

I for one would have voted 1st if it was an option in the poll .... bloody OP has lost his marbles.

Obviously flipping hosting rights to Port if we lose on Saturday.

I'd be a bit surprised if the "Second" matches weren't held on the Thursday and Friday, in the interests of maintaining integrity throughout the finals series.

Playing them in the order above implies either:

  • the winner of 1 v 4 (assume 1 for argument's sake) plays its Preliminary Final on the Saturday; OR
  • Its prelim is instead played on the Friday with the acknowledgment that its opponent will have only had a 6 day break.
I think it is right and fair that 1st, should it win through to a prelim, earns the right to play on the Friday night. But this also means that its Semi Final opponent should play on the preceding Friday, just as we did last year.

By extension then this implies that 2v3 and 6v7 should be on the Thursday and Friday.

But the Fox article makes a very important point: that the dollar is more important to the AFL than fixture equality (which is a disgrace).

I don't like a 3.20 pm game in Queensland in September.
You will have 2 quarters in the sun before the shade takes over.
Player will have issues until the shade and night set in.
Sunset time for Brisbane on the 9th September is 5.40pm.

I think if we host the 2v3 game it will be Saturday night and a Saints v NSW team will get the Saturday afternoon game at the MCG. I saw something that said Saints want it at Marvel but article also said the afl would only play outside of MCG if there were 2-3 other games in Melbourne so i guess that is a possibilty.

Good to know that the MCG is the Saint's home ground now - should make for a different schedule for them next year!

If we beat the Sts it may be trivial anyway because they could end up playing Sydney in Sydney.

I believe the talk of having the 3.20pm game on the Saturday is because there's talk of the Broncos having the Saturday night game at Suncorp, which admittedly the AFL hasn't cared about going up against in the past, albeit stupidly, so if this is the case and it pans out this way, then I'm ok with it being at that time-slot on Saturday.

I personally don't like thinking about potential game times/day etc to much yet though. There's always upsets every round. Lets start by taking care of business before getting to upset about when we are playing, as if we take our eyes off the ball to much it'll be a moot point anyway, because we'll be in Adelaide/Melbourne.

The first week times last year. Home side first.

Thursday: Lions v Tigers
Friday: Demons v Swans
Saturday: Cats V Pies 4.35pm
Saturday: Dockers v Dogs 8.10pm AEST

The following week as usual just 2 games on Friday and Saturday evening.

I think you could play a Sunday game in the first week say 5pm. That being one game of the 5th-8th teams.
i don't think it would affect the crowd numbers or ratings.

Players should be able to cope with a 6-day turnaround as they do during the season.
Also, not a reward for finishing 5th-8th.

I would be happy to go up against the Broncos on a Saturday evening.
There is enough Lions membership and support for AFL in SEQ to sell out the game early.

I guess I don’t mind playing a 3.20 Saturday game especially if we are playing a team coming from down south and it heats up a bit before then. Which it feels like it might.
The heat and the Gabba should suit us.

I forgot about Roos. Not knowing the Hinkley situation though, the Roos ones worked because he didn't want to continue coaching. If Hinkley does then that will present issues.

Plus most examples of it is of a premiership winning coach transitioning out which Hinkley is not.

I don't like that the winner of the first elimination final has an 8 day break while the loser of the 1st Qualifying final who are coming off a 7 day break. I understand wanting to maximise audience etc. But I wouldn't be happy if the team that finished below me was getting an extra day break. We benefitted from that last year but surely finishing higher up on the ladder should give you some advantage even if you lose the your qualifying final?
Because the games aren't played on the same day every week now, there will always be some unfairness in the finals fixture but I would think that should favour what ever team finishes higher on the ladder unless the team sitting 1st/2nd loses their first finals game.

Would get slaughtered on the teev though. AFL would want as much exposure as possible. Having said that, Carlton and Collingwood will get the prime slots and the other games will be fitted in around them.

I don't see how ratings get affected. At least one AFL game is going to be up against the Broncos. It may as well be the Lions.

Anyhow i doubt there would be any difference in viewership in Queensland between Lions v someone or a Vic v Vic/interstate team in a Saturday evening timeslot.
All the remainder AFL states will tune in as usual.
Queensland has a solid viewership which most likely increases some in a finals match.

NRL also not always on FTA but i am not sure regarding finals. Most likely it would be.

Tom Cruise What GIF

Yeah me too.

I wonder what the ladder would look like without Round 1, or the Indigenous Round(s) or the Rivalry Round?

You can come up with all sorts of hypotheticals but none of them make one iota of difference to the reality of where we are.
Maybe it should work like it does for diving.
You take out the 2 best and worst results and that is your final position.

You need to get better source materials. This guy is a ******* and writes horrendous and often incorrect opinion pieces. Didn’t read.
pretty sure hes the guy who wrote that dunkley was a terrible acquisition for brisbane and we should have gone after griffin logue instead

theroar is pretty mediocre at the best of times but that blokes an A grade idiot
