Definitely have hedged our bets. Makes sense given the odds of players making it. At least there is plenty of competition for spots from the get go and I guess whoever wants out will net us picks anyway.

We went big with talls because they take longer to develop we have a 3 year pain strategy from what I perceive the next year will be huge for getting 2 polished mids because when Prestia retires we will dip in the well again the recruitment personal is top notch depending on coaching fitness , board and supporters patience if we can align all these elements and then deal with drinking the bathwater when we do turn the corner we are in for a long road of success we really cemented our future if these kids find a connection

Rags to Riches!

Most drafts have very few good talls.

The fact we thieved most of them in this draft and left so few for 17 clubs ... well ... I will just have to live with my conscience.:moustache:

No need to lose sleep, our new tall cubs will take a year or two to mature. They can learn from the best tall forward (fitness permitting) in our Tom Lynch.

A lot of our first picked players from this year are now looking much better as depth options for in 3-4 years time. Really we were so overdue a rebuild. The biggest mistake in hindsight was putting too much power in Dimma’s hands at the end of 2021. Should have started the rebuild in 2022
Crazy hindsight talk.

Start a rebuild 2 hears after winding a flag and after making finals? We were a kick of a semi final and a few kicks off top 4 before that.

You don't give up on a dynasty team after a year that we were so close to being a contender

195cm is quickly becoming third tall size, particularly for someone lanky like gray
Well we just recruited 2 3rd forwards then. The lankyness is probably due to the fact that he was never in the under age program and come out of suburban football only a year before. Jack Riewoldt was rangy and stayed that way. I would much rather my forwards at 195cm than 200cm, generally better players. Lynch is probably the exception, but there are very few forwards if any around that can mark like Lynch.

Kosi, Trainor and Gray will have to play back in the VFL.
2 of Bauer, Fawcett, Armstrong, Simms and Faull in the seniors with Lynch, the rest forward in the VFL.
Then we're still left with 3 lumbering rucks in OHB, Colina and Ryan to squeeze in.

If were injury free OHB and/or Colina might have to ask permission to go back to the VAFA like the snackpack did this year.

Club signed Samson Ryan for 3 year and clearly have no faith.
I'd suggest it's more a case of not pinning all our hopes on Ryan becoming the next number 1 ruck.

You wonder if the state of the game is changing somewhat from bruising big forwards ala Porkins/Brown and Rucks
And going for speedy types...that can kick accurately for goal.
Game is going to turn to a hybrid of Basketball/BashCricket...midfielders get ball and kick for goal...rinse, repeat...
Reckon players like Tom Lynch are as rare as hen's teeth...and will get rarer still when Tassy arrives...

I cant see Gray playing back.
Colina will never play - waste of a spot
OHB will be no 1 VFL ruck IMO

Kosi is the weird one, what the **** do we do with him.

No chance trey are all available at any one time though. Will be plenty of management of kids and injuries.
