I cant see Gray playing back.
Colina will never play - waste of a spot
OHB will be no 1 VFL ruck IMO

Kosi is the weird one, what the **** do we do with him.

No chance trey are all available at any one time though. Will be plenty of management of kids and injuries.
Why? He did for Bunmers last year at times. There's no spots forward for him, unless we have a couple injuries.

Kosi had one great game in defence in the Vfl last year. He's going to have to play there.

Agree re Colina.

Crazy hindsight talk.

Start a rebuild 2 hears after winding a flag and after making finals? We were a kick of a semi final and a few kicks off top 4 before that.

You don't give up on a dynasty team after a year that we were so close to being a contender
Maybe, but rather than topping up with mature players in 2022 we should have started stock piling younger talent. Could we have been bolder in trading out some aging premiership stars to get more draft picks? If I recall we were pretty passive in trading for a couple seasons until we went for Taranto and hopper

We stock piled young talent in 2021 with 5 top 30 picks (2 first rounders, 3 second rounders) so we could go for Hopper and Taranto the next year. Over the 3 year period of 21-23, we took 2 first rounders and 4 2nd rounders which is just about on par for what you would take without making trades and that's with getting Hopper and Taranto.

We didn't lose a game by more than a goal after round 6 and without Lynch getting injured we likely would've been top 4. We looked to improve our biggest weakness immediately which was our lack of inside mid ballwinners so we could compete the next year.

It didn't pan out, but that doesn't mean it wasn't worth trying. Lynch was in career best form in 2022 (straight up best player in the league for a month) and there was hope Dusty would be able to get back to best after losing all that muscle and strength in 2021.

Taranto and Hopper trades were also good at the time.
  • #12 and #19 (ended up being #14 and #22) for Taranto was worth it no doubt. B&F first year.
  • Hopper for Future 1st and 31 also looks good on paper at the time, if we finished top 4 like we would've backed ourselves, then that would've ended up being (around) #22 and #34. Very good deal for us, unfortuantly we turned to shit and Hopper has struggled with injuries.

Kosi, Trainor and Gray will have to play back in the VFL.
2 of Bauer, Fawcett, Armstrong, Simms and Faull in the seniors with Lynch, the rest forward in the VFL.
Then we're still left with 3 lumbering rucks in OHB, Colina and Ryan to squeeze in.

If were injury free OHB and/or Colina might have to ask permission to go back to the VAFA like the snackpack did this year.
VFL backline Kosi, and Gray plus Miller. plus Young. Brown ~ Trainor rotating.

AFL backline; If Balta/Gibcus play. Brown/ Trainor battling for for AFL 3rd tall spot.

VFL ruck: if Sims rucks Ryan will rotate from fwd line I guess.
AFL fwd line 3KPFs ~ Lynch, Armstrong, Faull.
VFL fwd line Ryan/Sims, Fawcett, Blight, Bauer.

OHB, Colina wont get a VFL game. Young, Blight, Gray have become excess to the list. . Can they be retired/paid out?

Crap as Ryan is, adding Sims was a one tall too many.

I think Blight and Miller will play seniors.

don't forget lefau who is a kpf as well, delist territory imo especially after this draft

same age as taranto but coming off multiple acls as a big, powerful unit means he's probs just a stop gap if anything. the club most likely would've re-signed him for a year even if he didn't do his acl, but only cos so many ppl left the club and we still had duds we needed to cut before him

might be good to protect the talls in the 2nd half of the year in the vfl once he recovers though

If u listen to Blair’s presser carefully he refers to rebuilding a list with a strong spine , we’ve gone overs and by strength of numbers will end up with genuine qty which gives a great foundation to build the side on ,,,,I can see a coul,e potentially being traded out in short term, eg ryan

I wouldn’t have thought, you can pay out a player, unless they agreed to it. And even then you’d have to include their salaries in the cap.
On paper it looks as though we have far too many talls, but look at the injury history of Lynch, Gibcus, Young, Lefau, Bauer, Fawcett, Gray, Colina.
I reckon our young talls will get their opportunities next year. Won’t be at all surprised to see Faull, Armstrong and perhaps Fawcett play a role at AFL level.

I liked the video on Sims, all strong overhead marks with the ability to time his leaps perfectly. He will be a nightmare for opponents whether on the forward line or dropping back to the backline when in the ruck.
The best sides are big on intercept in D50 so the weaker you are in the air , more vulnerable u become. With three emerging targets plus another couple of chances in Fawcett and grey we can get it right and be a real threat in f50 and make it hard work for those roaming unaccountable defenders
