Autopsy Out of our misery

Hey, could be worse though.

The saints have their season on the line too. They’re at the cats dung heap, which as we know is tricky, but were facing a cats side without Selwood, Dangerfield and Blicavs.

Close at half time. Then 8.3 cats to 0.3 saints. Wow.

Saints list absolutely stinks in comparison to ours though. Its pretty damning that they are on top of us on the ladder at this point of the season.

Jamarra gave one of the best key defenders in the competition a bath. It is a shame he was not accurate in front of goal.

Naughton was shirking contests and hesitating when he shouldn't have. Purely a coaching issue there.

West has been poor for the past month.

I really hope we don't have an exodus.

Any chance things are bright to a head earlier with a year remaining on his contract ?

Personally I would love to see Bev coach with some decent assistants around him and an experienced, strong character and high IQ in football been his senior assistant.

I would also like to see a strong Football Manager.
Not sure re things brought forward. I doubt it given we’d be loathed to pay him out. He’s probably earned the right to have one more crack to get it right, but I do think it’s a legitimate chance next year could be his last unless there’s a big turn around

There has to be an explanation. Ir can't be a tactical defect or individual players' deficiencies, that's not possible in the 2 weeks since the Melbourne game. Did a virus go through the club this week ? Has Bev has lost the players ?

Full stats breakdown, some things to note...

We won the first possessions by 18, yet only won the clearances by 7.

Our Q3 pressure rating was 148, the lowest in any quarter for us this year.

Macrae did not attend a centre bounce in the second half and spent 30% of his TOG on the wing.

Fremantle sourced 8.4 (52) from our defensive half, we sourced 3.0 (18) from theirs.

We lost 80% of our D50 1-On-1 contests compared to Fremantle's 17%.

We were -7km in total distance running, a damning number for a team chasing all night.

13% of our kicks were clangers (direct turnovers), and Fremantle went at 7%.

Now as always...

80% d50 1 on 1 losses v 17%?! Has there ever been such a discrepancy ?

Jamarra gave one of the best key defenders in the competition a bath. It is a shame he was not accurate in front of goal.

Naughton was shirking contests and hesitating when he shouldn't have. Purely a coaching issue there.

West has been poor for the past month.

It’s unusual to have an exodus unless there’s a go home thing, right?

But I agree with the sentiment. I’d be very interested to know if Bont and the leadership group had addressed their concerns about the defensive gameplan and retreating from the mark. If they haven’t then that’s an indictment on them, if they have and it’s not been addressed then it’s an indictment on the coaching group.

Either way, if we go into next season with this shit then people will vote with their feet. And rightly so.

I'm leaning towards changing the coach now, but in all honestly the club hierarchy is too weak and just doesn't have what it takes to be that ballsy.

So if Bevo is given one more year it needs to be on a very short leash and on the club's terms (i.e performance based, assistants cleaned out, no stuffing around like this year).

Hard to know what's hampering success more; a coach willing to try anything or a recruiting department that functions such that he has to.

We've failed to qualify for finals, or win a final, in 6 of 8 seasons under the current coach.

A flag rightfully wins you a fairly lengthy leash, but how many more years of prime-Bont are we content to let slip through our fingers?

That's the dilemma for the club.

A ruthless and success driven club wouldn't put up with it. I doubt we're that club though.

When the coals are raked over, our physical prep, rehab and resilience has to be part of the serious convo.

Way too many blokes playing injured this year.

Seems to happen most years. Have always wondered whether playing at Marvel is a contributing factor.

The recruiting dept was overhauled when Dalrymple left. His successor left 2 years later.
It's going to take a few years to settle and for us to see the rewards. We have already caught some good fortune with JUH and Darcy.

I don't know what's going on, but as so many have said, that was a pretty pathetic way to effectively end our season.

We've been to every home game this year, a 4 hour round trip each time. Getting a bit pricey when fuel costs are factored in, although at least I refuelled after the game at Melbourne prices. Not sure I'll be committing to the financial outlay to attend next year if that's what is dished up.

Our multiple memberships, social club, reserved seats, etc are unconditional though - or at least have been. Mrs 73 reminds me I said I'd ease up if we ever won a flag. I didn't - we commit more $$$ now than we ever did. Now it's the cost of living that's putting the pressure on. Onfield performances aren't helping.

We have some absolutely outstanding players - yet we spend periods in games looking like a bog average team. What a time to be a Bulldogs member.

Can someone tell me what Williams adds to team as a wingman, if they have decided he is not part of defence he should be trade bait, Hunter and McLean must be fuming sitting behind Williams as a winger. Season now cooked, play Darcy out the year, drop Keith as he is either severely injured or finished as has gone from top 4 full back to bottom 4 full back.

Come on. People move on, jobs still need to be done. I’ve never stepped into a job and said I needed a year or two to be effective, and not many other people have either.

I know continuity is important in those types of roles, so I get the point, but we cannot make excuses like that for the footy department, recruiting team, list management team, coaching staff and/or match committee.

This club is underperforming and is doing so in ways that may be easily resolvable. It’s not a three year fix. Could be a three day one.

Hunter is finished. If he wasn’t a father/son pick he would have been excluded from being a best 22 player a fair while ago.

I hope we make some tough calls in the offseason, doesn’t really matter who but you need to set an example that not making the 8 after a GF is not good enough.

The guys in the middle need to be strong with breakaway ability. Macrae to the wing, libba 50/50 middle forward. I actually think our first pick should be an on baller. Trade for other needs.

Constantly tweak the list, for me Keath, Bruce and Williams should only be backup next year.

Most importantly the zone defensive is a fail. The back off the mark is a fail. 3rd quarter freo mark 65 from goal, Richards back off 5, freo day thank you very much I don’t have to back up clear view 2 step and pass to Fredricks
