Hickey, great guy & coach, will bring good players with him. Anyone know why Blacks cant recruit quality players, (& keep them). and why they cant win, (besides they suck)?

Their recent form isn't very attractive for prospective players. Kind of in a similar position Tarra was in a few years back - losing nearly every game and, from an outside view, have a reputation as being a dirty club full of thugs. To recruit decent players they probably need to get a high profile coach.

I dont see how you get that impression! Its been quite some time since the club was soft on thuggery, or had players who could be veiwed as thugs. I would be interested who there is now that is a thug/dirty, personaly i dont know anymore. A few years ago they cut alot of good players for off feild things, party drugs mainly i believe. As for a high profile coach, les gilchrst? He is a was good coach. should still be there in 09

I didn't say that was my opinion. But I do know that there are quite a few people going around that have that view. Not so much because of the seniors though. There were a few incidents involving our thirds and seconds this year and have heard the same from players at other clubs.

There was an incident brought up in this forum a few months back regarding a Greta player that got knocked out by a punch from a two's player - if that did infact occur then it doesn't really help to clean the image of the club up once word gets around.

I've also heard the club is taking the right direction and kicking blokes out for bad behaviour. Don't know how true it is, but apparently a few thirds players were shown the door after an incident involving our thirds. One of the players took his jumper off and started walking towards one of our officials in a threating manner.

Regarding Les Gilchrist, he seems to be a decent bloke who wants to take the club in the right direction. But as I said, they seem to be in a position similar to what Tarra was in a few years back. The thuggish behaviour had stopped but it took a while for the outsiders to see that the club has changed directions.

Just coz one or 2 people are/were thugs, the whole club has the image? A few years ago, I got punched twice (seprate incidents) by a bloke from the lions, THUGS. On the same day a 2s player (who was filling in) was knocked out behind play (a long way) for a whole half of footy. THUGS. The club did nothing about the guy being king hit because they were (maybe still are) worried about what the rest of the league thought of them. I saw alot of good players get told to leave and not come back, because of these type of things. Its a shame. It would seem that other clubs were pissed that the blacks even got into the league. Its a great league! I would have thought that their joining has made the league alot stronger.

Unfortunately yes. Or maybe it's because the club is in a town that is thought to be full of 'ferals'. Some fans do their best to create an unwelcoming environment (notably the underage drinkers) - I know this is out of the hands of the club (even some of their own players say they hate it) but it does give a bad image.

Perhaps the Blacks joining our league has made it stronger but what has it done to the B&D? I think there are around five clubs left so I can't see that league being around for much longer. But perhaps this will be a good thing with mergers etc the Blacks may become a stronger club.

Right-O Wang is the less feral than Benalla, Slightly. A joke is a joke, when i was a kid Wang was the place to comit suicide, coz they were all doing it. Blacks didnt come from the B&D, came from the central golburn league. You think the kids at blacks are bad you should have played against Rumba, they were worst away from their home!!
Yeah when the B&D finaly folds blacks will get some players back, but most of the better players there are the ones that had been kicked out of All Blacks, so they wont come back. Glenrowan, greta and even miliwa will buy a good number of them. As will a few tungamah league teams.
By the way the club hates the kids drinking down the back! and they consistantly call the cops to drive past. And its our home ground we arent going roll out the welcome mat while the game is on, geeez!

Whoops, maybe I should do some research. Didn't All Blacks play in the B&D at some stage? Maybe it was ages ago. Anyway, apologies for the F*ck up.

Mate, I'm not comparing towns here. It's just the general view from Wang people that Benalla is full of ferals. I guess it's the same how us Aussies think the Kiwi's root sheep but if you ask them, they think we are the wool lovers!

I'm not saying that people go to Benalla to get a red carpet on arrival, I was just stating that a minority seem to take it too far. Look, I'm just posting what I think is the general feeling from some players and supporters from other teams. I'm definately not out to personally attack the Blacks, as I have nothing against the club.

Think if you check with the people concerned, you'll find the incident was investigated by the league at the Blacks request. Unfortunately the locals suffered from selective blindness.

That's always the case slim! With conflicting stories it's always hard to penalise a player if the report isn't laid down at the time. Does anyone know of a recent investigation that has resulted in a suspension (besides the Stanna incident)???

Blacks did play in the B&D quite a few years ago now but have been through a number of leagues since then including the now defunct Central Goulburn & GV Div 2 and the still running Tungamah league.

You may find NAL that the Tungamah league was canned thus giving birth to the ill fated GV Div 2 and then the Central Goulburn. But seeing you're NAL I suppose you could be excused.... Just another awkward moment :p:p:p

It looks like the Mt Men may loose a few next year

G Harris being touted as a possible recruit to Albury
M Kelly either Wang/Myrt or WA
B Green - Bonnie Doon

Couple of others being looked at by some O&M & other leagues

Probably likes of Robinson, Hickey, Scambers

Not too surprised to hear that Harro could be heading to the O&M. Robbo and Scambers are both decent O&K players but it'd be interesting to see if they could get a regular senior spot in an O&M side.

Yeah , Shutty at midnight on the eve of the 2003 GF.

Isn't it marvelous how every town thinks the next one has more ferals or ********s when infact per capita the numbers are probably the same.

Yeah your right Slim Benalla havnt got anymore ferals than any other town its just a shame that the ferals they do have all choose to hang out around the fire drum at the far end of the All Blacks footy ground every second Sat during the winter. What do they do when the Blacks play away anyone know??:p:p

Play for Moyhu I think :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Interested to know what other clubs are doing for their footy trip. We're heading off to Cairns for 3 nights tmrw. Have heard that Milawa aren't having one and Whorouly are heading off to Tassie tmrw. Do those clubs that go away still get good numbers? We're a bit depleted this year compared to previous years but we've still got 15 going.

Our boys going to Sydney not sure sure on numbers but i suspect that about 20 odd would be pretty normal these days , not like the old days thats for sure.

Thanks for the forgiveness slim (plenty of awkward moments to forget aswell!!). Either way Blackers have been through a few leagues - or is the VCFL trying to tell them something by disbanding leagues they've been in??!! Watch out O&K.

RE: Footy Trips, Blackers had their's AFL GF weekend, heading to Melb, and have heard a rather interesting story from it. Lets just say one of the Senior players would be unlikely to be back next year after his behaviour... And I'll admit to thinking this was pretty serious as I'd never heard of the Footy Trip Code of Silence broken by a number of other players on the trip!!!
