A NEW membership record has been set by the Port Adelaide Football Club on the eve of the 2014 AFL Premiership Season.

The club smashed its previous record of 41,543 at the first of its two annual membership telethons, with members of the club’s administration staff, playing group and coaching panel taking to the phones to call up unrenewed and prospective members.

I've always maintained that we have criminally undersold the importance of moving to a central location. There are more Port Adelaide supporters out there than people realize, but being AAMI being 15 minutes from the city means that it's actually 30 minutes from the southern, northern or eastern suburbs. And that's if you have a clear run - in traffic, you're looking at more like an hour to go to an outdated stadium that was branded with Crow paraphernalia and had zero things to do after a game.

I think if we put in a decent showing against Essendon and St.Kilda during the pre-season and beat Carlton, we'll get to 45k no worries. Then if we beat Adelaide...well, the sky's the limit. As opposed to the dark days of 2012, where the limit was the sky.
