I suppose you could make am argument for others too....like rhythmic gymnastics but I agree, Skateboarding is strange.

Meanwhile a swimmer like Phelps or Emma McKeon can compete in 50/100/200 freestyle, 100 butterfly or backstroke. And like 4 relays.

The sports climbing is grouse though, one of the highlights of Tokyo for me.

Is going to be amazing watching them climb the Eiffel Tower.

Now we've got skateboarding, I expect next we'll get competitive tagging and then competitive break and entering. I guess they'll be saving that for the next time Melbourne gets the Games as we'll have the home town advantage.

This skateboarding is something though. Not every day you get to see 14 year old girls slam themselves into concrete without getting rolled for your wallet and phone in the process. It's a quality sport though and deserves prime positioning over that "hockey". Who ever heard of that?

How does it work?
You just try and climb fast?

To an extent. Speed climbing against an opponent. And bouldering, trying to solve a climb in a set time frame.

Was very watchable and pretty intense.
