Pass mark for Brisbane, Melbourne, Carlton and St Kilda in 2016?

Brisbane - just looking to consolidate by not losing any players (4- 5 wins)

Most players Brisbane "lose" will be replaced by new players. For example: Aish replaced by Bastinac. Redden replaced by Bell.

You'll be pleased to know that Stefan Martin has extended his contract for another three years until the end of 2019 as has Pearce Hanley, while Mitch Robinson has extended his contract for another two years, until the end of 2018. More signings to come in the next three weeks.

2014 saw seven wins and 2015 saw four wins, so barring another horror run with injury, eight wins in 2016 would be about the "pass" mark.

St Kilda - winning against teams outside the bottom six.

Brisbane - 8 wins.

Melbourne - finishing no lower than 10th.

Carlton - not winning the spoon.

Respect your "Glass Half Full" outlook on your team.

Just can't see 8 wins coming from the Brisbane list.

Why not? We got 7 wins in 2014 with arguably a less talented list. We got 4 wins last year after one of the worst injury tolls the Lions have ever suffered, perhaps matched only by that of 1998.

Why is 8 wins out of the realms of possibility, given that we've more than adequately replaced any player losses for the 2016 season? Especially if we can keep much of our best 22 out on the park.

B: Marco Paparone, Daniel Merrett, Justin Clarke
HB: Tom Cutler, Harris Andrews, Pearce Hanley
C: Ryan Bastinac, Daniel Rich, Sam Mayes
HF: Dayne Zorko, Josh Walker, Mitch Robinson
F: Allen Christensen, Jonathan Freeman, Lewis Taylor
FOLL: Stefan Martin, Tom Rockliff, Dayne Beams
I/C: Tom Bell, Josh Green, Daniel McStay, Nick Robertson

EMERG: Rhys Mathieson, Trent West, Jarrad Jansen

OTHERS — Darcy Gardiner, Josh Schache, Eric Hipwood, Ben Keays, Josh Clayton, Liam Dawson, Ryan Lester, Ryan Harwood, Jaden McGrath, Josh McGuinness, Michael Close, Sam Skinner, Josh Watts, Rohan Bewick

I hope that Darcy is one of your favourites or someone you use in your super coach team or something - I would hate to think that you went through the Lion's list there just looking for someone missing!

No actually. I just remember from a year or two ago he was rated as one of the best defenders in his draft.

Atleast Brisbane supporters aren't as cocky as last off season

Finals or bust.

Oh wait, did you hear how everyone on the list has improved in numerous areas an just burning up the track? I love brissy supporters this time of year, so happy an full of joy.

We weren't optimistic we were just, err.... Exaggerating our list's potential without including the possibility of having the worse injury list in the comp (closely followed by the Suns). Yeah thats about right

I love how the off season brings out so much "false hope" and bravado particularly from supporters of bottom clubs.

Please, like you haven't you brought into the whole false hope thing before with your own side?

I'm pretty confident we'll finish anywhere from 12th upwards next year. We've got a good list, so there's no excuses anymore.

I think every team that finished outside the 8 should aim for finals. There are enough instances that have shown it can be done.

Why wouldn't supporters of clubs finishing at the bottom hope and expect that there would be some improvement on their performance in the following season? Many of the lower clubs have made efforts to recruit players that fulfill list/best 22 deficiencies and have also accessed high draft picks, many of whom are ready to play senior football. The AFL ladder isn't static - there are changes from season to season where bottom teams move up and top teams move down.

In Brisbane's case, their youngsters are a year older and will have another pre-season under their belts. Players that have left have been replaced by other like players with equal to more experience. As well as that, the Lions have moved to address structural problems in their best side. The Lions looked a much better side when they had a couple of tall targets to kick to, late in the season with the return of Jono Freeman and Brent Staker to the senior side. That's partly been addressed in the off-season with the recruitment of Walker and Schache. The Lions would also be hoping that their injury list won't be as extensive as last season. The very fact that the Lions defeated the Bulldogs in Round 23 illustrates what happens when a team loses a bit of experience.

At this stage, I see no reason why the Lions wouldn't think a minimum benchmark of 8 wins for the 2016 season isn't achievable/realistic. If, of course the Lions have another horror injury run, that might not happen but those sort of things can't be predicted.

Stkilda the brightest of that list should be aiming for ten wins and lots of youth development. Melbourne just behind them need to rely on more than hogan to take them out of the wilderness.

So you think we're just relying on Hogan.

It fascinates me every year how opposition supporters think they're experts on other team lists.

The Saints have a better but ageing senior group and we have more quality in the 23 and under brigade.

Pass mark for Carlton will be beating brisbane.

Pass mark for Brisbane will be getting a new coach.

As long as we don't fall into the trap of getting Buckley when Eddie sacks him this year :)
