Really liked the honesty in this part:

Will be interesting to see if any of the players remonstrate with the only player more gutless than Campbell Brown, Dean Brogan.

I for one would love to see Hille bowl the big douche over. Michael Pettigrew has one coming his way, too.

Agreed. It's Pettigrew for a Hille's hoist.

*cringe*

Why give any team who has had it over us for quite a while MORE ammunition?

Ridiculous and unnecessary comments. Should of just kept quiet. Choco will probably now come out in the press and give it to us in some way and Port will probably be even more fired up this weekend...

By the way, Port are underdogs with the bookies and paying $2.00 for a win this weekend... absolutely ridiculous and worth at least a pineapple. They should be $1.40-1.50 favourites at least. One swallow doesn't make a summer.

I think that you have Brogan wrongly categorised.

He is the motivator for Power and tries to get into the opposition's head - to put them off their game.

A valuable player for Port but relatively harmless in a physical sense.

Re: Bombers still filth on Port: Knights

If anything it's more appropriate now.

I don't agree with those saying it, but I can understand why people are saying Knights should've refrained from giving Port ammunition.

In the past context, Knights said he wanted to win the game. Hardly stuff worth being reserved about.

Nah.

On the Couch he said in answer to a question about the future with game and did so with a nervous chuckle. A throw away line that revealed the way he was feeling about the next game.

I was able to interpret that he was just hoping for a win. Malthouse would have to, rest is history.

This time he has made a deliberate statement. He could end up with egg on his face but he hasn't given away anything about how confident he is about the next game. Like he did last time.

Get it now?

Nothing to see here, Knights is trying to get some extra bums on seats (and helping to gee us up after two tough weeks).
It's also god to see plenty of Robert Walls wannabees around here having a go a Brogan picking on smaller players, when your 200cm tall most people are smaller than you!!
Hopefully a good contest between our clubs this weekend (but it appears we have alot more respect of your club than you guys have of ours:thumbsdown:)

You want him to hope for a loss??? How differently would Malthouse prepare for that?

Re: Bombers still filth on Port: Knights

Nah. Not hope for a loss.

Just not to show the opposition he was relying on hope to win.

Getting any closer to understanding?

I don't think anyone is.............

Is it part of Knights strategy to build up every game into a "grudge" match. It seems 3/4 out of 6 weeks we've been filthy/upset/wanting payback/remembering/gunning for the opposition.

If it works I'm on board.. if not.. lets just stick to beating them!

So he should have said "we're confident of winning and we've got a bag of tricks???"
Which would have been blatantly untrue, and shown up about 2 minutes in.
You're looking for Sheedy-esque mind games.
I don't think that wins anyone anything. If anything, it makes you look even worse when you do lose.

^ THIS.

Yep, hate Brogan as much as you want. The Lovett incident was a 'mountain out of a mole hill' FFS (without re-living it). Brogan is like Hardwick before him... or like Libba, Craig Kelly, Rhys-Jones... and so on. Players who stir the pot, unsettle other teams and motivate their own. At the same time they're normally pretty good players themselves.

Of course he is going to pick on smaller blokes since he is 200cm... but he has never backed down from the big blokes either. Anyone on the footy ground is 'fair game' in terms of being tested... no matter their size.

As for Knights... the guy is a tosser (not because of Essendon at all). Sure he played a heap of games for mediocre Richmond, but what else has he achieved? He coached PAMFC (Magpies) in the SANFL and did stuff all there... could be said he was the start of the rot for that club. And some how he landed a gig at one of the biggest and best Victorian clubs in the AFL.

Now he comes out spilling some crap about the clubs having no respect for one another... since when... his arrival?

AFAIK, EFC and PAFC have been 2 clubs that have been highly respectful to each other. Sure we've had the wood over you for sometime, but the 2 clubs have shared coaches, staff and players over the years. Kevin Sheedy was alwasy hugely respectful to PAFC even before our AFL entry, and our coaches/club in return.

Personally I know I have always respected Essendon and attending Essendon games in either state. I respect their club, supporters and most players.

Knight's rant is either him trying to drum up a crowd for the game... or he still has a sour grapes over his PAMFC stint and the Brogan/Lovett incident.

Finally, I think Essendon & Knights aren't a good fit. Actually, I think Worsfold would be a good fit if you could lure him from WC.

Good luck guys.

I've never minded Essendon. There have been a fair few links over the years with players and coaches. Many of us remember that Sheeds was supportive of Port prior to us getting into the AFL. If I lived in Melbourne I'd watch the Bombers a few times each season if Port weren't in town.

If Knights can fire up your players then good luck to him but really what happened last year was a bit of a storm in a teacup. I think he has probably ensured though, that this game has our players full attention. I was a little worried that there might be a let down after the Saints and Crows games.

If I were you I'd be a little worried that Knights approach may see more Bombers facing the tribunal.

I'm pretty happy with Dom Cassisi's response that we're not interested in mid week wars of words and that our guys will be concentrating on playing their best football on the weekend. I hope that we stay focussed on the ball and don't respond to any unsociable football.

And why should we not think he's a w***er for having a go at our players?

This all BS if you ask me. There is plenty of respect between the clubs and always has been. Sheeds respected Port as an old club with a rich history and always loved the Port players that came over to play with us. Williams was also the Reserves coach at Essendon and coached Hirdy, Mercuri, Lloyd, Lucas, etc before they became stars. Has even stated that he'd like to come back and coach one of the Melbourne clubs he was involved with (Collingwood & Essendon) one day. Knights has history with Port Magpies though and there is no love lost there. All of this is related to that more than anything else. The Brogan thing is a non event.

The way I see it, these comments do nothing for your guys, but do a whole lot for ours, so a bad move by Knights.

On the Brogan thing, it wasn't that bad at all. The Pettigrew coathanger was worse.

the coathanger was just one of those things that happen. the abuse directed at lovett as he lay on the ground afterwards was another matter altogether.

i also recall the off the ball stuff that hird used to cop from port. and the broken ribs when the ruckman went for him instead of the ball.

no love lost with port at all.

I don't accept that.

The PA players had obviously decided before the game to use the off field issues Lovett was facing to try and get into the guy's head. Intimidating Lovett wasn't a spur of the moment decision. Brogan's big mouth from the outset should be indication enough of that. Pettigrew's action was opportunistic and stupid, and it is fair to imply, possibly part inspired by whatever discussion of Lovett the Port players had had.

In saying that, tactically, the abuse that followed from Pettigrew's recklessness was masterfully staged.

Anyways, I hated Port then and I hate them now, Lovett or not.
