Coaching Staff Past Coach: Matthew Knights - Finally gets his second shot - 5/5

Congrats Matty, at least some of us are pulling for you.

I'm just about over the human race today, some of the crap I have read on here and on the main board has been absolute shiite. Serioulsy, people should have to pass an IQ test before being allowed to re-produce.

Let's get behind him, let him try his thing and see how he goes.

well said. I gotta admit, at first I was disappointed, but now it's sunk in. I have faith in the process.

Now he's the senior coach of the EFC, and I'm 100% behind him. Let's see what he's got and see how we go next year.

I like the team we have, coaches and players. I don't even care for picking up Judd given what we'd lose.

Let's get a good player at no 6 and show further improvement for a finals berth next year :thumbsu:

I'm really disappointed with this appointment to be honest. And am just gobsmacked by the 'we haven't got any time to wait until after the GF to talk to Bomber' line. It's less than 2 days away (and this process has already been going on for months), ffs.

we nab Choco as soon as he was free.
.

You'll never get Choco, pie in the sky.

I fail to understand why Essendon didn't go for Neil Daniher, or try really hard to get Harves back.

Matthew Knights is a terrible shock. Unsuccessful, unproven. Bad mistake Bombers. Shame. I cant see him lasting more than two seasons.

He probably has better knowledge of the first and second year players than Sheedy had, as well as players such as Johns and Bradley.

For one year I think, can't remember which one. I also played soccer for Nicholl's Point

Never played soccer but had a few mates who did. Used to love playing Nicholl's point in cricket though. Small ground. Wonder what the chances of us having a beer together is? I'd imagine we'd know the same people.

FFS can everybody take a deep breath and relax.

Give Knights a chance, the board have gone through a process and Knights impressed more then the other candidates. Lloyd and the rest of the team are very happy with the decision, that's the most important thing.

Please stop the crap about Knights football background where the team he played for was unsuccessfull, not him as a player. As a player he was a fantastic leader who racked up plenty of individual honors. As a person he is also highly impressive.

Have a look at Dean Bailey, Big Gay Al Clarkson, Ross Lyon, Neil Craig. Apart from Craig who never played VFL/AFL Knights has far better credentials then the four I have mentioned.

Knighter you have my blessing. Good luck, don't let me and the EFC down.

Do you seriously think that Bomber hasn't given his answer?

As with the Sheedy announcement the timing seems to be a little strange. Why not wait a week, even if it wouldnt make a difference to the outcome. At least the supporters would believe the club has made the best effort to poach Thompson.

Your only as good as your last game. A loss in a VFL final from a near unlose-able position. Not ready for a senior gig yet.

Well done to Matthew Knights on becoming our new coach. I admired him as an opposition player and I'm sure he'll bring some new ideas and a fresh approach to the Bombers.:thumbsu:

To all the doubters, please give him a chance.

Im glad he is coaching your club and not mine..all I can rememebr of him is a constant whinging to umpires and having no right side :D

Good luck and may the force be with you...your gunna need it.

I'm generally not a pessimist. But I tend to agree completely with that.

Forgive my lack of faith - but I'm very worried now about how the next three years are going to turn out. How they could think our seconds coach (from a team with a losing culture as a player, and with a record of having been sacked only one year in to his only previous senior coaching role) could be a better bet than Sheeds, Harvey, Daniher, Thompson and others I'm honestly struggling to fathom.

Theres no straws being grabbed.

The statement was 100% correct.

As for the board being up the creek, the members will vote on that one and it will only end one way.

Yep you are right off course,

Jackson comes out and makes a statement to the media, then goes back behind close doors and Oh s**t, we have a new coach a couple of hours later. FFS that is bull, this board is reactive and that is the problem, take of your rose coloured glasses and see the light.

P.J certainly couldn't come out and say it publicly though.

He could have easily said something more nuanced if he'd needed to.

To be honest, if he's going to make comments as forthright as:

"Would he have been available? We don't know. Would he have got the job? We don't know, but we just couldn't sit here for three more weeks."

"It would have been terrific to put him through the process but at the end we had to make a judgement."

then sorry, but I'm going to take them at face value and assume he's telling the truth. If he's doing the opposite, then he should be ashamed of himself.

Did you listen to the interviews today?

If i remember correctly that statement came out reasonably early in the morning, do you think that P.J actually put it on the site himself, he prolly dictated it the night before.

Knighter and Dimma were both giving their final presentations at the casino yesterday.

Later that afternoon P.J called him back in and and at 6.00pm he was appointed coach.

I don't have rose coloured glasses.

I also don't think they are without fault BUT i support them as My club has given me 4 premierships in my time following footy, while i watch other clubs fall and become rabble.

They have my support until they really stuff up, which they haven't and imo they made the most important move, Sheeds is gone

knights

did knights coach the essendon seconds? if so then he would be more likely to play the players that he had the most to do with last year when tossing up between players for team spots eg bolton bradley cole and trade for some richmond rejects. just a thought

At the moment you're sitting on the fence- so you won't be able to mutter or utter those words " I told you so". Are you in, or out ?

No I'm not. How much clearer do I have to make it - I wouldn't have had him as our first choice, just like many other Essendon fans. I'm sure I'm not the only one. It doesnt mean I hope he fails. I will be behind him as much as I was Sheeds and anyone else given the job.
If I'm proven wrong then good, it will mean we are successful. If not then unfortunately I was right.

Good to see you really are passionate, I have been supporting Essendon for only 45+ years and have had some real tough times in those years, I've seen these mistakes before when a board is not being proactive and that is what worries me the most.

With Sheedy not being at Essendon anymore I don't give a rats backside, so move on on that one, I want this board to show strength not weakness that is what I am saying.

That is ridiculous.
