Pat looks to have lost all confidence. In his current form, he’s not doing anyone, including his teammates, any favours.

But knowing Fly, I’d be surprised if he was dropped; and again knowing Fly and his management of players, we may see the old Pat back again as soon as this week.

When nearly every single Pie player was making the correct decision when the heat was on in the last few minutes, Lipinski meekly turned the ball over with a shitty handpass that allowed the Crows their final surge.

I am very concerned about his ability to make good decisions when the heat is on, similar to WHE.

I’m concerned too. He was really, really poor yesterday.

Re: WHE, I don’t have any data to support, but I feel like he is one of our more clutch players. He can have an absolute mare when the heat is on early (like yesterday), but he always seems to do the right things in close finishes.

I suggested he should start his comeback in the VFL and was roundly ridiculed for it.

WHE is not a clutch player. He kept putting people under pressure with his handpasses. He was lucky to get the goal in the last. He was horrible yesterday and I would love to hear from anyone that can explain WTF he does every week. He plays the odd good game and that's about it. He pulled out of contests yesterday and was his usual fumbly self.

Totally agree on WHE, definitely someone I want running around for us in the last qtr of an important game. Has delivered in important moments much more often than not IMO.

I thought Lipinski was our worst player yesterday by quite a margin. We all know he's very one-paced but gee is he slow by hand when he has the ball. Takes him an eternity to gather and handpass under pressure. Combined with his terrible tackling I think I'd prefer he finds form in the VFL over the next couple of weeks and can have time to get back into a more aggressive mindset defensively. He should not be considered an automatic selection IMO.

His athleticism, endurance and game smarts are very handy towards the end of games and he's bobbed up for us quite a few times. I'd consider him a pretty reliable set shot for goal while also capable of kicking high difficulty shots from the pockets as he's quite skilled by foot. Despite people labelling him as soft I think he usually has a crack, gets a surprising amount of smothers and can actually even be an asset at times defensively.

If there's one spot in the 23 left and it's either WHE or Lipinski, I'm giving it to WHE, at least at the moment.

I'd say WHE adds some flexibility, knows how to play his role, has some pace and is a good mark.

In terms of role, I see him as our half-forward equivalent of Markov.

No doubt WHE has declined since 2018, and is on the fringe now, but I see why the coaches keep picking him -- he's just a solid role player. Next year is the one he really should be worried about. Because Harrison, McInnis, McReery are all likely to squeeze him out.

Sounds like he would be better as the sub but you can't play him sub every week. I think his best spot is as a leading FF.

Checks medical file and notes two shoulder reconstructions in 9 months equaling the better part of 6 of the past 9 months in a sling. Checks BigFooty noting comments around his competitiveness and ability in clutch moments. Scratches head…

Two of the highest intensity matches back off some pretty serious surgery that would ordinarily have him back in about 2 weeks time and there’s people doubting the club? **** me we’re an entitled bunch! The difference between Lipinski and the “replacements” currently at VFL level is that his running capacity and skill will put him in positions to influence in those clutch situations whereas the others won’t. That delivery to setup Adams goal or that flying shot (should have given hands to Naicos) there’s no chance Macrae/ Bianco/ Carmichael are putting themselves in those positions for various reasons.

The clutch stuff will come with confidence in his body and further game time. We’re better with him in the best 22 and it amazes me how quickly people either forget or turn on our own…

on reflection I agree with your comments about WHE. Not a good comparison as he has turned up clutch a number of times for us.

I must be watching a different player to everyone else here

Second game back from injury and second game of the year

Seems fine to me? He'll get better as the season wears on and is making less "fatal errors" than Adams, Noble and Sidebottom (prior to his injury). Those 3 players have played all year too

Not sure what people are expecting this quickly

We are top of the ladder with the best percentage. Just won another game and I’m seeing so much negativity. We’ve had a rough draw, huge injury issues and still doing well. People need to just enjoy wins because there’s going to be more losses.

Spot on - for now, we just want to get through July. 2 x 6 day breaks coming along with a trip to the Goldy - then chuck in another trip to meet Port Adelaide a few weeks later. Big month.

I very much enjoyed the win. It doesn’t mean I can’t be concerned about Lipinski’s poor form and decision making, which is supposedly a strength of his. Nor share that opinion on a football forum for wider feedback.

Fair enough. But he’s shown he’s good player for us. His second game all season after shoulder surgery. Think he can be given some slack. Was decent last week.

I disagree on your assessment of last week, and I also struggle to think of any games against quality opposition that Lipinski has ever impacted markedly for us. More often he goes entirely missing.

I’d prefer we look at the wares of other fringe players given his lacklustre couple of performances since coming back. It might do him some good to play at a lower level and grow some confidence and merit behind a promotion to the seniors.

Not only that we beat a damn good team. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Adelaide in the top 4 by years end they’re good. It’s human nature though to find fault so no judgment I just found the criticism of Lipinski particularly harsh. If I were to compare his game to Crisp’s I’d say Lipinski was better because he at least put himself in those positions to influence the result. I’m not for a second suggesting we drop Crisp rather there’s improvement to be had there.

"entirely missing"? Really?
