Pavlich off the boil

1st7 or 8 games he played 80% forward it seems since then it has gone more 70% midfield and i think this reflects in our win loss as well. He was on fire up forward with spurts in the guts but i dont think he can sustain long periods in the middle. ATM he is so much more valuable up the gorund as the last 2 games have shown we are falling down going in our 50.
If he is carrying something then playing out of FF would be alot better than putting his body under duress in the guts. Anyway fit or unfit i think we need him up forward rather than midfield if we are going to go anywhere in september.

Seemed to have a mini fitness test when they came out after half time. He was made to do some short sprints, and tonnes of stretching. Looked to be possibly related to the lower back/hip or hamstring.

On a positive note seemed to lay a few mean defensive tackles on the weekend, which has been a glaring omission from his game of late.

We thought we saw him slightly separated from the main group at either quarter or 3qtr time doing groin stretching and talking with the doctor/physios? Anyone else spot that?

EDIT: Apologies to Split Personality - half-time actually, I didn't dream it.

Yeah I caught the end of Pav doing his own run throughs after they came out at half time. Fifty metres in front of the main group and made me wonder.

There was a time in the third quarter when I kept saying, "where on earth is Pav?" as we were in dire straits and needing him to do something. Couldn't find him on the ground, and I looked for a while. I know every player goes on the bench for rotations, and probably it was my imagination, but it just seemed an overly long time until he reappeared out on the field.

Women problems.

It happens.

And no. He doesn't need a pad.

I lol'd

Pav is still the focus of every team to negate and still back him to stand up in the last few rounds.

If however he is not fit hopefully the return of Taz and Mayne may see the Pavmeister given a week off.

Maybe if we can Des up and firing with the Taz and Mayne maybe then I'd be more comfortable giving Pav a rest.

Apparently he's carrying an ankle injury -

Confirmed.

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey has leapt to the defence of captain Matthew Pavlich following criticism of his form and revealed his superstar is carrying an ankle injury.
Pavlich didn't join his teammates at training today but Harvey said his ankle injury wouldn't stop him from playing the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.
He said Pavlich had been carrying the injury for several weeks and the club was managing it.
Defender Alex Silvagni will miss the match with a groin injury but Chris Tarrant and Antoni Grover trained today and look set to return.

The lack protection Sandi got from the umps on Sunday was terrible! There were at least 3 or 4 obvious frees they should've paid.

The sad thing is it's been happening for 2-3 years now

No player can beat him fairly so they foul him and the umps can't/won't pay any of them otherwise they'd have to pay them all which would be ridiculous because of how many times he is impeded during games

I would say that Sandilands is infringed upon at the vast majority of bounces/throw ins, and technically should get in the order of 15-20 free kicks per match if the umpires were serious. But you can't pay that many as it would be bordering on ridiculous, so they just pay barely any at all.

In the centre, its about 50% of the time when the opposition ruckman has no eyes on the ball. Around the grounds, its probably a similar figure when the opposition ruckman instigates grappling/holding/pushing. The holding is what gets me, not the tangling test of strength kind of holding that is a mystery when the ump blows his whistle, but blatant holding that goes largely unpunished.

It is ridiculous! Once they start paying the frees opposition rucks will back off hopefully but it's just a case of if/when that will ever happen

He doesn't *need* protection as he wins <50% of taps/hit outs with everyone niggling him though if he did get protection it would be in excess of 70-80% because of his sheer size and dominance

If the opposition ruck-men play on him legally, his dominance is absolutely incredible

I don't believe it is an ankle. Watching him gingerly get off the deck in front of me on Saturday it looked like groin or back. Having said that I hope it is ankle and not groin

Jeeesus Silvagni seems to go down more than Warrick Capper at a strip club. We need him to stay fit.

I'm afraid to ask how you know this Memories?

Champagne comedy and this is why we love you.

It is bloody frustrating and I'd say your assessment is about right.

Actually, I would take the way he's treated in the ruck if they would properly call what happens quite often in marking contests. He is handled, pushed, hacked and chopped way beyond acceptable nearly always because it's usually the only way an opposition player can get into the contest of the mark once Sandi is in front or bodied up. They call it sometimes, but not enough considering it happens so often.

Yeah the ankle is Harves' equivalent of the Windy Hill flu I think.

The same thing used to happen to Tony Lockett. The umpires just simply did not give free kicks against him. They thought that he clearly had such an advantage over the opposition Full Backs that they were allowed to climb ALL over him. Silvagni was like an octopus trying to land a Mixed Martial Arts style submission move on him every time the ball went close to him.

Sandilands is in the same boat. Clear advantage through skill and size over his opponents so things that would be given a free kick to opposition ruckmen will not be given against the big man. Hopefully this will highlight offences to the umpires. I am certainly not expecting it to. Lockett had the amazing total of free kicks (in his final year before retiring and coming back) for the year of ......Drumroll please...........2. Yes that was 2 free kicks for the year! Sandi is getting a better deal than that but it is still not an indication of the times that he is being infringed.
