Autopsy The Bont, The Bye & The Bathwater - Dogs By Plenty

Just to add to that, West Coast have had 7 home games. But it's the timing of them that plays a part too. They had 2 consecutive home games leading into their bye. So they will have a full month at home without needing to jump on a plane before they play the Bombers this week.

Having back-to-back away games between our bye means our players don't actually get a rest from the fortnightly plane schedule. That sort of thing should not happen from a fixturing point of view when they could easily schedule a home game on one side of the bye and give us a proper rest from travel mid-season.

I know the AFL couldn't care less about us and I'm glad the club is making some noise about it this season, the fixture gets more ridiculous the more you look at it.

I'm not sure we have enough dominance out of the remaining two bounce mids to sacrifice one to negate Bontempelli. Libba is too good one on one, Fyfe won't be able to cover anyone running away from him.

I was a day on from hospital so wasn't fully focused but I noticed the Dogs spread out the stoppage a lot, and they love space.

But, big butt too, Darcy can't put the ball to space when our mids are crowding his feet and the opposition have the outside ground. That's just poor ruck work.

Needed Treacy to keep us in touch kicking shots he should nail 95/100. Holding the ball got interesting for a period there.

Dogs played us well. It was almost a total reversal of the game at Optus where our gun mids didn't show up and Bontempelli went wild.

Not looking for excuses here, especially as they've just had a break, but -

We just completed Round 14, our 13th game of the season, and we've had 5 home games to date. Just 5. I wonder if there's a cumulative effect here with travel exhaustion. Back to back away games in Adelaide, back to back away games our last two weeks, Alice Springs, on top of being the most travelled team in the comp.

There's a reason why travel and equalisation is being pushed so hard by the WA clubs, and the players have said it takes a real toll on their bodies. And we still have Tasmania to come. We've copped it hard this year from a travel perspective.

Agreed - regardless of win / loss, this stat is absolutely cooked. Club should be fuming

Was it arrogance from JL to not tag Bont?

As Taylor said, we don't have the midfield brilliance to be spending 1/3 of that on a hard tag. What we should be doing is using Banfield as a run with role on the half back though, he should have been on Dale and when we had the ball exploiting his lack of defensive ability. This week we should be looking to tag Flanders, not Anderson.

I think Serong efforts can lift the team but he needs to kick more goals and inspire team mates which all those others I mentioned do. It’s just that inspirational player who thinks “I’m going to do it all myself” bursting through, taking on the opposition and kicking a special goal that we lack.

Lol you're describing the Bont to perfection.

Our mids got spanked, but gee whiz Libba and Bont are in their primes and are a pretty handy 1-2 punch with Tinglish as a ruckman.

I'm not worried about our midfield, they're still young and if we can add Warner as the big burst/impact mid we'll be right.

We asked for B2B games in Adelaide to save 2 flights.

Alice Springs is a shorter flight then Melbourne. Yes we lose 1 game at the MCG but theoretically we save another 6 hours on a plane.

We have 6 out of last 10 games at Home.

We only got 2 home games handed to us on the shit Sunday Twilight zone which is where they bury the shit games.

I dont think our draw is that bad we got Richmond & West Coast Twice who are bottom 4 so we cant complain.

No trips to QLD either which is the longest flight for WA clubs.

Its never going to be perfect or balanced but we have had worse.

This is like when Ross Lyon goes on about not making excuses and having ownership or your situation, then spends eight minutes making things that sound a lot like excuses.

Alice Springs is a much shorter trip than Melbourne, and there is minimal difference in flying time between Melbourne vs Launceston (they get a direct flight from Perth) this is a non-issue

we have a midfield which is not defensive in nature, i have noticed that most games where we have been heavily beaten, the opposing midfield go back then sideways then forward from the clearances as we are not defensive teams that play this style beat us easily. JL has to (1) back our midfield in or (2) be more defensive and guard the back of the clearance. Whats the answer i dont know. the 6/6/6 rule stops us from putting a player to run from backline to bounce to cover, switta does it from the forward 50.

The Launceston thing is ****ed.
We are bloody 20 years into regularly going down there. WTF is wrong with the club hierarchy?
West coast and freo should just say no, we aren’t going there. End of story. Refuse to fulfil the fixture.
It’s farcical we are sent down there. Would be nearly easier get to Thailand from Perth. Do they go direct nowadays to Launceston? Used to always include a stop in Melbourne.

Just to make everyone feel better, I will share my experiences from Saturday
I was there at the game & sitting directly in front of me was an eastern bulldogs fan who didn't shut up all game & he had one of those effeminate cockney accents.
I couldn't even let rip at him, as he had his young son with him & I wouldn't belittle a bloke in front of his kid.
Then, after the game, I was walking my dog in Southbank, still wearing my Freo scarf, when a bogan in a Carlton jumper called out to me.
"Hey Freo, I'm WA. I am west coast"
The moron was with his small children & was smoking a cigarette.
So at least you avoided those 2
:)

Quality trolling adding that Sturt only had one tackle for the game haha.

Really disagree on Worner bring a six, I thought his disposal was terrible.

I think people are being harsh on Worner, he wasn’t great but definitely not our worst. He did have that brain fade side ways kick (which I think people are focused on) but he also took a good mark in the centre when a team mate tried a very risky kick into the middle. He also took a mark at half back and kicked it into the corridor to start off the passage of play that ended up with Sturt getting a goal after leading up. Also 8 of his 9 kicks hit a team mate so 89% kick efficiency, the best of any Docker with over 5 kicks

This I like. Our mids all have class and skill, but unlike Bontempelli and Petracca, they don't have that total arrogance and mongrel.
Trac and Bont srut their stuff.Chest out standing tall. Looking like they will tear your arms off if you get in the way.We don't have a player like that.Fyfe used to have it, but sadly those days are gone.
We need to be able to find a strutting arrogant mongrel that is prepared to give his all for us. Maybe a Chad Worner.Runs the game like Trac and Bont.

Never really seems to be treated like one of the boys around here , pretty good reader of the play but might not quite be there on the athleticism side of things

We also get a terrible deal when it comes to our opponent after the bye. going back the last 9 years we are 3-6 post bye every time we play vs a team who played the week before we lose. When we vs a team who also had a bye we win.

Last year Charleton approached the bye period with a very deliberate strategy to keep the intensity as close to regular season levels as possible. Unfortunately they came out firing off the bye and we were the ones that met the brunt of it.

I think we might've been better taking more of a leaf from that approach across our break this year.
