What's the Brisbane board's view on Tom Collier and how has he gone this pre-season. Don't really need to hear 'he is burning up the track' ect - more interested what role/where he has been training and where he sits with chances of getting some game time.

Had a few good games last year, and a few average ones.

No reported injuries. Has added plenty of bulk (now 86kgs). I'm expecting him to play as a dashing defender or on the wing. I have him in my 22 but he wouldn't be a certainty.

just wondering which brisbane ruckmen i should pick? this is for sc. i have already chosen luenberger for a bit of value and am considring who to choose out of charman or mitch clark?

I wouldn't be picking either for SC. Possibly Mitch if he is fit and plays as a CHF or CHB.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other really. If you had to pick one of those I'd go Clark only because Charman is useless when it comes to Supercoach. Clark has been touted as a forward option, so your chances of scoring more than Charman is heightened by this, besides the fact Charman gives away too many frees (-6 or -8 points each I think).

Expect Berger to play a bit more this season (knee cost him last season) which also means if Clark does get a game, and he gets on the park, you're likely to see him down the scoring end of the ground. That said I wouldnt surprised to see him down back either.

I'm interested in Jared Brennan. People still see him as inconsistent, but after his second half of 08 that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Does anyone think he's going to take the comp by storm next year? Tossing up between him and Boomer Harvey, leaning towards Brennan at this stage.

It's a judgement call. I think Brennan is on an improvement incline and the reports on him are encouraging, but people have been burnt by him in the past thinking he was about to take the competition by storm.

The bible (prospectus) says - 'Potential to be a very good player in AFL Dream Team and a star in Supercoach'.

Dream Team Avg 84 in 2008 (up from 72) and 92 in Super Coach (up from 78) - however I recall last season he started off in a blaze of glory and was scoring well in the hundreds.

He floated down forward a littel bit last season, had 24 shots at goal, but only kicked 9.15. We've come to expect that of him at Lion land - I dont know what Voss has in store from him but I expect to see alot more scoring from onballers and midfielers so you may see him having more shots at goal - conversion is the key then to him improving on 92 points per game.

Who is the lions 3rd ruckman ? he could be a good pick in Dt/sc as the lions big man always seem to go down , and i think i might make a tough call and say im going to leave Rich out of my DT i dont think he will score to well but 100% lock in Supercoach for me

Either Clark or McCulloch. Voss doesn't seem keen on using Clark in the ruck, but the reality may be that he is a better option than a first year player. McCulloch currently has a quad injury.

Every year, Dream Team and Supercoach enquiries choke up team boards during the pre-season. Guess what? You aren't the only person wondering if Proud will finally get a run under a new coach.

If you are a visitor to this board, please take the time to read this thread to see if your question has been answered.

The information you seek may also be available on the Roster Watch Board (above).

If it is the latest news on injuries you are after, then Roster Watch contains an Injury Watch thread too.

If not, you will certainly want to read through Quigley's 2008 Full Time Report thread which gives a DT/Supercoach analysis of every player on our list last year and this year.

Finally, if those sources of info aren't useful, feel free to post your query here. Please be warned though - your question won't be answered if it has already been asked, if it is stupid (ie how many games will Clark play?) or if you are rude/demanding.

Thanks.
Whats the website to access suppercoach is it www.supercoach.com.au cause that didnt work for me?

G'day Lions fans. First of all I would like to say that your roster watch is fantastic and very helpful. I'll just give my thoughts on a couple of Lions and then slip in a few questions and any help would be appreciated.

Adcock - Went backwards this year when I thought he would establish himself as an elite midfielder in the league and DT. Shifted to the midfield late in '07 with great success but struggled in the same role in '08. Will he continue to play midfield in '09 or retreat back into defense to build some confidence?

Brennan - Unfairly criticized on the DT board IMO. After burning many in '07 I'm sure most people will stay away from him '09. I on the other hand think he could be an excellent buy. He has improved every year and I think in '09 he will take another step up. He had an excellent finish to the year playing in the midfield. In his last 5 games he scored 114, 114, 91, 106 and 93. My question is, will he play midfield?

I know you have a private board here which is shame for us keen DT'ers who enjoy reading training reports. Is there any chance someone could give a brief summary on how Rich, Adcock and Brennan have been training? Also, if anyone would like some thoughts on North players I would be happy to help.

Adcock - many see him being moved into defence, but I'm pretty confident he will stay in the middle.

Brennan will spend more and more time in the middle (rotating from the forward line) as his motor builds.

Let's just cut to the chase. Who are the best value options at North (Supercoach)?

Ok, well I've never really played SC so I'm not going to pretend to know much about it but here's something I wrote on the DT private board on some possible value players from North. I'd assume most of the value would translate in SC anyway.

Rookies to Watch

Liam Anthony

May not get early games but Anthony is my pick to be the Dalziell of ’09. He will be competing with the likes of Smith, Power, Ziebell, Swallow, Lower, Mcmahon and Ross. Now for the positives, he is a mature age recruit (21) and a ball magnet! He averaged 94.5 in the WAFL this year for East Fremantle. Compare those numbers to Sandover Medallist Hayden Ballantyne (82.1), Chris Yarren (62.7), Daniel Rich (54.1), Nick Naitanui (51.1) and Stephen Hill (36.9). He’s looking pretty good! If he’s playing mid year and you have the option of downgrading to him, make him a priority.

Jack Ziebell

Not much I can say that hasn’t already been said. Jack is underage but is built strongly enough to play AFL footy. There are question marks over his endurance which will mean he is likely to play off a HF/HB flank. Will be a DT star in the future and produced good numbers in the TAC Cup. When he gets his chance will probably depend on his NAB Cup and whether we are hit hard by injuries. If he impresses in the pre-season it wouldn’t surprise me if Laidley gave him every opportunity like he did with Wells. However if he is deemed to not be ready then expect a David Trotter like return (a couple of games).

Honourable mention to Todd Goldstein. Had it not been for his 3 games in ’08 he would have been in many teams. Now he is at an awkward price of $175,200 so rightfully won’t attract a lot of interest.

Possible Improvers

Jesse Smith

Age: 22
Draft: F/S
'08 Avg: 55.5
'08 Games: 2

20% discount on his price is a nice bonus. Here are the facts. He is forever troubled by ankle and hamstring problems. If fit he will be a star of the AFL and DT. So far he has had a good pre-season. He’s had no setbacks although he is being nursed through it a bit. This suggests that come season time he may struggle for TOG. Big risk but the upside is big, unfortunately I see his price as a little high.

Lachie Hansen

Age: 20
Draft: #3
'08 Avg: 53.7
'08 Games: 10

A move to CHF has got me excited about Lachie’s DT prospects for next year. Hansen’s strength’s are his elite speed and endurance for a big man and his excellent marking overhead. One of my favourite Hansen moments is him coming over the top of Jarrad Waite and out marking him. I can see him playing the Riewoldt role leading uponto the wings using his strengths. The question is whether his body can hold up as he is still quite skinny, he will need a big pre-season. His price is quite low as he played as a key defender this year. His disposal and decision making under pressure can be suspect so we were reluctant to use him coming out of defense this year (despite him presenting over and over again). When he played a couple of games up forward or on the wing he scored quite well in DT and even won a game off him own boot. Playing as a forward I believe he could average as much as 70-80.

Hamish McIntosh

Age: 24
Draft: #9
'08 Avg: 66.9
'08 Games: 14

I don’t think H-Mac is getting enough attention from DT’ers this pre-season. He is a 24yo ruckman about to enter his prime. In ’07 as a 22yo he was close to AA selection. 2008 wasn’t as bad a year for him as the stats suggest. He was injured in RD 12 when he did a PCL, he scored 21. He then returned for the last two games of the H&A season and was in no way fit to play. He scored 37 and 57 in those games. He was then left out of the elimination final. If you take away those 3 games he actually averaged 75 from the remaining games. I don’t see durability as an issue as he is still young and has only had the one injury since cementing a spot in the team. There is no reason 2009 can’t be better that his 2007 as he is still a young, improving ruckman.

Gavin Urquhart

Age: 20
Draft: #21
'08 Avg: 55.8
'08 Games: 13

2008 was Gav’s second year on the list and he got his opportunity to debut in RD 10. His average for the year was 55.8 but that doesn’t really tell the story. From his debut in RD 10 to RD 18 he averaged 65.7. Then, from RD’s 19 to 22 he produced his 4 lowest scores of the year: 41, 36, 31 and 26. Who knows what happened to him, it could have been injury or just poor form. Now you’re probably thinking that even that average of 65.7 isn’t that great, which it isn’t but Gav has more to offer. His strength for DT is his elite kicking. He is probably the best kick at the club. He reminds me a lot of Lindsay Gilbee and could be used in a similar role to him in ’09. If he is then obviously he will produce big numbers. Is he ready for that role yet though? That’s for you to decide.

Michael Firrito

Age: 25
Draft: #10
'08 Avg: 55.9
'08 Games: 22

Yes, I’m really talking about a guy who hasn’t averaged above 60 in his career and someone who most (if not all) of you would never consider. Firrito is a classic example of wait and see in the NAB Cup. Let me explain, Firrito is actually an inside midfielder who was forced to play FB. Now with Petrie holding down CHB and Gibson and SDT/Watt hopefully holding down FB he might be finally released back into the midfield. He got a bit of a run in the middle late in the ’08 season and produced some reasonable numbers. If he can get his fitness levels up to that of a midfielder his DT numbers may surprise a few people next year. Just another one to keep in mind.

Can anyone give me the word on Rischitelli? Was set to be the next good Lions mid.

How's his pre-season been?

He wasn't mentioned earlier was he? I didn't see him mentioned.

Huh???

Completely agree.

Also, I really don't agree with the Firrito move. I think he's developed a body that's more suited to a KD role and a move to the midfield would rob you of a star defender while only adding an average midfielder. Does he even have the engine?

By that I mean that he will be used more coming out of defense. Obviously whether he sprays it or not doesn't directly affect his DT score though. He could well develop into similar player to Gilbee IMO.

A lot of that will depend on how Scott Thompson stands up at full back. If he is playing well then Firrito can be released into an attacking HB or midfielder. What I wrote was written a long time ago and since then Spud has come out and said that he will be spending more time in the midfield but will also help out in defense.

A few people I know picked him last year figuring he woud have a break out year. Very possible that it could be this year. He is still young, started to play more outside last year, his TOG was not particularly high and because his disposal is not great he is never likely to pick up a tag. His preseason has been quiet but there have been no issues that I am aware of. He is definately one to watch imho.

Any word on how Brennan, Adcock and Rich have been training. Have you had any intra club games? Who have been the standouts?

Guys, wondering if/where Tommy Rockliff will play this year? wanna see if he's worth a bench spot

Most likely as a small forward (hasn't got the engine to play midfield). See the last question to get an idea of when people think he will debut.
