I have now seen two Peel games, both games Weller has been exciting, too good for wafl, and last week Blakey showed his class. Both will be belting the door
down, and the reports preseason were on the money.
Tabs, Mz top notch hit out, should be ready to go next week.
Grey, Ballard, are doing everything required of them, great depth players, but
Ballard needs to work on his kicking, especially non preferred.
Plenty to like about the performances of Freo players, some real depth and quality.
Apeness hands at the moment are too hard, the same thing was said by coulda of
Tabs when he started with us. Gets his hands on the ball, and brings it to ground,
needs to watch the flight of the ball better, and softer hands and the ball will stick.
I'd imagine the more time that Tabs spends in the seniors will be better for Apeness as he'll be the #1 tall target all year and will have plenty of opportunity to work on softening those hands up.

The Peel Coach is supposed to be one of the guests on Channel 9's Footy WA show on Sunday at 11:30am. Haven't seen the show before, and it only goes for half an hour, so I guess it won't be too indepth. Nat Fyfe's scheduled to make an appearance as part of the Freo/Port preview.

Geez, what a difference a week makes. Last week against West Perth, Peels disposal ratio was approx. 1 kick 1 handball. Against EF it was approx. 2 kicks 1 handball.

BTW there's a bunch of pics (150) on Peel's facebook page from the game vs EF

Can't believe I'm saying this but if he plays well and keeps out of trouble, there's no reason not to use our last rookie pick on him. You can say what you like about him but A. He was a high draft pick so he has talent and, B. We tried to get him using F/S so we rated him in the past. Just needs to put some weight on and get some confidence in his own ability on the field.

If it makes you feel any better I'm a fan of Bootsma too and wouldn't mind if we threw him a lifeline at the end of the year.

Had to duck out at half time so thanks a lot to our field reporters.

Ape needs to play a full season with Peel, to work on his game, I think he has had some niggles in the past, so getting games under the
belt, is so important to his development, and key position players take time to grow into their bodies.
The same with all our young Talls at Peel, they all need more games, experience, but the talent is there in the first place.

I never said I was a huge fan of Bootsma, hence starting my post with "I can't believe I'm saying this." Never really saw why he was taken where he was in the draft tbh but players take time sometimes and he probably has more chance of making it than some skinny 18 year old who got overlooked in the national draft.

I noticed in their first game that East Perth hadn't trained and played together as a side and were absolutely pants by East Fremantle who haven't won a game since. East Perth on the other hand are now playing as a team with 13 AFL listed players included in the side. They really have turned it around.

Peel had the bye in round one and they were terrible when they played West Perth last week. They had no structures, no team work, no set plays etc. and Duffield, Barlow and Pearce were simply getting some minutes into their legs and avoiding being re-injured.

This week they played 4 quarters like a well oiled machine and it showed. I also didn't notice any of the Fremantle senior coaching staff at the quarter and 3/4 time huddles. Maybe Cam Shepherd was allowed to do as he pleased without any interference from Ross, Suma and Bondy?

Lastly I wanted to congratulate Brendon "BJ" Jones on 200 games. It was great to see the boys carry him off after a win with a full members stand of people giving him a standing ovation as the team carried him off the ground.

BJ puts his body on the line each and every week for a club that has had very little success since its inception.

I agree too about Josh Bootsma's game, it was superb and how good was Leroy Jetta?

Is there any footage of Lachie Weller's 50m goal on the run in the first quarter?

Let's hope this is the beginning of a successful association with Peel. Want our younger players growing in a professional WAFL team that allows them to really show what they have. Not a rag bag team of individuals like last year.

One win and we have 4 to 5 players putting their hands up saying I'm ready for AFL, the way it was meant to be.

The performance of the team improves when senior dockers play for them. Last week Duffield took control of the backline. I saw him regularly directing tanner and Hughes about where to stand and where to run. Yesterday bootsma assumed that role. When no senior players play, no one takes on the on-field leadership role. The peel players probably don't feel empowered enough to direct the docker players and the docker players aren't experienced enough to lead.
Yesterday, when the ball was in the midfield I looked down at the backline and they had arranged themselves in a formation across the 50m arc. There was Hughes, AP, Tanner, Bootsma and grey. That's quite a talent laden defence for a Wafl game. Bootsma was at CHB pointing and barking instructions. I think that is the difference between East Perth and Peel in regards to their respective Afl alignments. EP have experienced wafl players on every line to direct the youngsters.
If we have young players pushing up into the league side then not only will we benefit from getting games into those youngsters, presumably we will also benefit from senior players being relegated to the 2's and providing on- field leadership to the other developing kids.

Ha, it was pretty good. I stopped the video after the first goal.

Some nice stuff from Crozier there too
Running goals are nice, but you're not often going to get that kind of space at AFL level.

Winning a contested ball deep in the pocket, shrugging a tackle and snapping a goal. That's the exact thing the senior side needs!

Unfortunately, throwing an 18 year old into the deep end against a side like Geelong down in Geelong would likely see him snapped in two - we are going to have to give him time to develop physically.

I take your point but I didn't see the twigs Fyfe and Hill snapped in two back in their first seasons.

Weller has to play this year. We need his class and pace, so unfortunately we won't have the luxury of allowing him two years in the gym to develop physically.

I'd love to see both Weller and Blakely play. I don't think they will for a little while yet, while we've got a full list. I think Connor gets a game before Weller too (this is the choice I think the club will make).

And good of West Coast to pick the slow, short, shallow kicking mid leaving Weller for us :)
I like the look of Duggan. I'm sure the two will be debated furiously about over the next decade. I think the only thing that would have deterred West Coast from Weller was his height. They needed a taller mid and Duggan gives them that point of difference that they don't have. Having said that, Weller looks a real beauty and the fact that we already have big mids means that we could afford to go for a smaller mid anyway

Go dig up a Docker magazine from 2010 and look at Fyfe.
