What it says is, he can take fully sick marks with his shoelaces untied whilst farting and make pieces of grass look like mini flying deer.

I know you were taking the p**s with your comment but it truly is remarkable how good Harley is at contested marking for somebody who is supposedly midfield size. I think that this is a feature that we have missed with our West Coast mids for some time now (outside of Yeo pre-injury) and something that he can immediately add to our team.
Here's a few shots that I got of Harley's contested marking this year (obviously doesn't include his sensational grab playing for Essendon VFL or his sensational forward 50 leading in the Vic Country v WA game, not that any bar the last one-hander were "contested").

If you had 1 would you take 2, 15 and 18 for it?
I reckon an offer like that would make WCE sit up and take notice. Such a shame the draft is so compromised as the 2 later picks could be in the 20's when all said and done.

Gets them McKercher and then a couple of handy players later on but picks in the 20's is a bit meh in the end.

So many variables we don't know. Does Reid want to stay in Vic? No idea. Does WC value mckercher almost as high? No idea. So hard to speculate with such little information.

I think the safe money is just WC keeps 1 takes reid

Yep. Maybe I am just wrong. I think taking Sanders is basically admitting defeat though. He is a pure inside mid and has shown no aptitude anywhere else.

It’s not really.

They have a big young core of KPP.

Bont is late 20’s but Libba is in his 30’s.

They need to draft mids now or else they will have a bunch of 20 year olds when bont is close to retirement.

It’s not often you get access to one of the best mids in the draft at their pick.

Fair doesn't come into it.
This has to be closely considered.. Eagles will need to take at least 5 picks at the draft due to list spots and i can't see them wanting 4 of those picks to be late 20's on..

Do they? I didn't think they had the list spots open?

ROB has said they'll take 4-5 picks in the national draft and 1-2 in the rookie

We already have the picks to cover that
It depends on how many rookies you upgrade... but assuming you didn't upgrade i'd say you'll take 5 picks! Just think the balance of pick 1 + 4 later picks is something they'd be weighing up.. especially with the WA talent around the 15-20 mark

He's also talked about the eveness of the draft after the first bit. Plus Jay Clarks article saying WC aren't interested in picks in the late teens in a pick 1 trade

It would have to be 2 plus another in the "first part" or its looking very likely they'll stick with what they've already got.

Understand the point around draft being 'even' but is that just another term for shallow?! Strong lists aren't built on 1 player per draft.. you need a glut of talent over a few years! It's also a strategy you used last year trading out a high end pick for 2 top WA boys.. so I believe they'd be weighing up something similar again this year..

Exactly, they're built with elite talent not a bunch of middling picks in one draft.

WC probably think they can get similar talent at 23 and 37 that they can at 17 or 18 so why bother?

And been done to death in this thread, but why can we only pick WA boys in your opinion?

We've drafted just as many Victorians as West Aussies the last 2 years, our 2018 flag team was only 60% WA guys. We've never limited ourselves to just WA talent, its a complete myth.

Maybe ask your own recruitment department that question regarding Ginbey and Hewett.. i'm just pointing out the facts of what you've done most recently..

Get your point around 17,18 vs. 23,37 but my point is you'd have more options with those 2 picks.. move up the order, trade 1 into the future..

They'll need to be certain that Harley is locked in for 8+ years because it's likely that he's the only one for the Eagles from this draft that becomes a top level AFL player and if he was to leave in 4 years time that would basically start your cycle again when the option right now is to bring in 2-3 good talents..

The split last year has been done to death in this thread

It's the weakest analysis possible to look at that and assume we will do the exact same this year

I actually think it's pretty clear what WC will accept for a trade this year. Highly doubt it will be for a couple of late teen picks but we'll see

Where are these 'high end' WA boys in this draft?

Also, anyone using last year as an example of a 'clear' list strategy decision of WCE to target WA talent specifically clearly doesn't follow the draft.

The whole series of events was triggered by JHF leaving North. He stays and that 4(?) Club trade never happens.

North take Sheezel and WCE draft Cadman.
