Pick 2,18 and 19 vs 3,20 and Kennedy

Cotchin and Morton are pretty even, not much difference between pick 18-20 amd kennedy is better than anything available at that point in the draft.

Carltons better as Kennedy will be a very good CHF for WCE.
But Richmond could have offered up 2, Deledio, Foley and 19 and the deal would not have been done.
Judd had zero interest in going to Richmond. Facilities, culture, list , coach etc did not appeal. Can you really blame him?

Let's break the deal down into individual components:
It's looking like West Coast will be picking up Cotchin, who they would have got whether they had either pick 2 or 3. Therefore Pick 2 = Pick 3.
As for pick 19, once you get into the second round of the draft, picks start to become speculative. The difference between 19 and 20 is negligible. Therefore Pick 19 = Pick 20.
West Coast gave up pick 46, but in a shallow draft this was practically meaningless.
So we are left with the comparison of Kennedy versus Pick 18. Kennedy was, what, pick 4 only two years ago. He hasn't shown much in the way of brilliance, but he hasn't been shown to be a dud either. He may turn out to be another McDougall, but he might also turn out to be another Ash Hansen. You definitely have to give him the benefit of the doubt at such an early stage in his career. Against pick 18 in a shallow draft, you'd have to rate him higher.
Having said that, I haven't seen much of Kennedy. But can anyone dispute that, at this tender stage in his career, that he is worth more than pick 18?
Miller has been pushing this barrow all weekend. 3AW, SEN on Sunday and again this morning and its crap!!!
Miller is effectively saying that 2, McMahon and 19 are better than;
3, Kennedy and 20. Only Miller and Wallace would rate Mcmahon that highly. He is an outside player with above average foot skills but there are hundreds of them
Tivendale is a poor mans McMahon. Patrick Bowden also.
Keenedy is 6'6" 20yr old key position player with 2years in the system.
Richmond's (see Wallace) obsession with outside runners is clouding their judgement.
2 is better than 3 particularly as WC rate Cotchin highly
Kennedy is far better than McMahon and has far more upside
19 and 20 are lottery tickets.
Of course if Miller believes that 2, 18 and 19 are better than 3, Kennedy and 20 then they have traded badly.
Perhaps that is what he is trying to cover.

2, 18 + 19 i'd say is about even with 3, 20 + Kennedy, which means because Judd chose Carlton as his preferred club, they win.
2, 18 + Coughlan would have beaten that deal, but Carlton would have just made a better offer, 1, 20 + Kennedy or 3, 20 + someone better than Josh and that's game over.

You don't think the Tigers traded for Mitch Morton was a clear indication of their intention to draft Cale?
In any event, the value of a draft pick really depends on the players available and the needs of the club. For Carlton, Pick 1 this year is extremely valuable, because Kruezer is the stand-out draftee for the year and Carlton disparately need a ruckman. For a team with good ruck stocks already, having Pick 1 this year would be less important.
As everyone knows, Pick 3 was enough for the Eagles to get Judd in the first place. I'm more than confident that it'll be enough for the Eagles to do well this draft too. 2 = 3.
Interestingly enough, everyone keeps saying the Eagles got shafted on the Judd deal, and yet I haven't heard of any firm offers that trumped Carlton. If 2, 18 & 19 was the best alternative, it was hardly worth screwing Chris Judd over. Even if you accept that Richmond offered a better deal (and many of us think it was actually worse), it wasn't significantly better. And certainly not so good as to be worth getting a bad reputation over. And make no mistake, there would have been a lot of bad press for WCE if they'd screwed Judd.
If the Carlton deal was so bad, it should have been easy for other clubs to beat it.
They didn't.
