Player Watch Pick #5 (2018) - Connor Rozee (AFL Captain)

Weak captain. Goes completely missing when it matters, incapable of doing the team lifting acts. JHF is the obvious choice, just as Boak was in 2013.

Nah JHF has been pretty bad in 5 career finals games too.

We don't have anyone.

Like from what I see (my opinion), Sweet is the most captain like at the club followed by Jase.

Four kids, if any of them said their coach/boss was like a father figure I’d feel like they were in good hands. These guys are early 20’s we’re trying to get the best out of them while keeping the team cohesive. Watching SPP walk up to Kenny in the change rooms and give him a huge hug made me realise why Ken’s strength is man management - SPP has spent the year doing rehab watching from the sidelines and looks as invested as anyone.

and yet performance management, not so much of a bloody strength. He's PAID to be the manager of their performance, not their dad. Being some kind of a substitute dad ought to be a bonus, it cannot makeup for "mediocritising" the psychological development of a talented set of kids in a necessarily brutal workplace. to the best of my knowledge no other club's playing group - winning ones or otherwise - make these noises at such frequent intervals.

as for Conor sure correct the captaincy mistake, let's just let him focus on rounding out his own performance, the sublime skills, with all the other things a complete footballer does.

Y'all just remember that I was saying all of this stuff before it was cool
Yeh, but balance that out with the mcentee love. ;)

Unlike the groupthink where everyone and everything is shit Rozee was in our top 3 last night. 2 very good goals and always busy

I don't think he's a great leader of men, but his game was pretty good. It's not his fault Boak keeps turning it over, BZT goes to water when the pressure is on, Dixon's past it, Rat never had it, and Mead, Narkle, Evans are backup AFL players at best. It's also not his fault you won the majority of clearances yet only the opposition moves it into the forward 50 with any intent

Once again, he is sitting at the back, hiding like a little boy who is scared.

The definition of a Follower NOT a leader

Gotta say his press conference the club just posted was quite possibly a worse performance in terms of leadership than his actual finals series. No wonder we aren’t successful when these type of men are leading us.

Overall, Connor is happy with the way he performed individually, said he displayed good leadership. Said can’t expect the same in terms of stats because it’s a final (someone tell him to look at Sydney leaders stats), said he is proud basically because we beat hawthorn in the semi.

What a weak response from our “captain” no accountability.

****ing hell. Whatever goodwill that win just earned just got torpedoed by Rozee's post match interview. The most mission accomplished, where are the Hinkley haters now, we don't listen to the white noise, remember 2012 bullshit I've ever heard. We're definitely losing next week.
Hmmmmmmm

I think we just have to accept that this current version of our club is self-satisfied just turning up and getting to finals. There is no great desire or know-how from the board, executive, football management, coaches or players to be the absolute best. Their measures of success are completely foreign to what those of us who were accustomed to Magpies glory pre-1997 would expect. It won’t change and probably never will. Tredrea’s expectations seem to have diluted. Carr is talking about the journey being important. Even Ginever didn’t seem too distressed by it all. When ex-players like Delaney, Brogan etc are resigned to the status quo and accepting that it’s just what it is, there’s not much we as supporters can do. It’s all a bit too difficult and stressful to expect anything more.

Rozee’s press conference is completely aligned with Koch, Hinkley and everyone else at the club. The young list bit is just a hopeful excuse that maybe this playing group still has time to mature enough to nab a flag in Connor’s career timeline. It’s more likely that with his current attitude that will never happen. Even JHF carried himself last night as a player who accepted that the opposition is better.

If these guys ever taste a premiership, it will be a one-off on the back of the bit of luck that Ken clings to. Likelihood is that we won’t get lucky because we don’t know how to make our luck by doing things the right way.

Accept it Port fans. Short of a Fos Williams-like Messiah coming to our club, we are what we are. Average to above average.
