Player Watch Pick #7 (2012) - Ollie Wines

Sorry to derail this thread briefly (although distracting you from speculating with little reason about one of your best players leaving is probably not a bad thing), but I'm just wondering if anyone's heard anything about Wines working on increasing his fitness this preseason.

I'm a big fan of Wines, but I've noticed, particularly last year, that he tends to fade somewhat as the season progresses and he tires.
Was brilliant early on, faded somewhat after a few weeks, then after the bye he was brilliant again, before fading again a little. Watching him, it seems like he just doesn't spread as effectively after playing a few weeks straight, and he'll kick the ball a lot less because of it.

As I said, I'm a big fan, but I just think that a bit better fitness base could take him to that next level, and I'm wondering if there's been much, or any, talk of him increasing his fitness levels.
It's that bloody Friday night lasagne...he stores it in his thighs.

I'd very much doubt we'd be trying to improve anyone's fitness, its pre-season. Especially a 23 year old midfielder!

9 goals in 6 finals. 41 in 101 home and away games. Loves a goal in September, not so much the rest of the year.
i reckon no one outside of the ports fandom remembers that goal against freo from the pocket but it should be played in any great finals goals highlights package

Yep its time for Ollie to make himself a serious contender for All Oz midfield selection, especially if he wants the big bucks. Runs on the board not potential, should drive his next contract value.

You’d probably know this REH.

What sort of things would probably be negotiated into Ollie’s contract by his manager? Obviously base salary and tenure is key, but presumably bonuses such as AA selection, B&F, games per season et al?

BF POTY votes would be a factor.

lol. That lot wish so desperately that a first 22 player left our club. We are the rebuttal for their yearly argument that football is a business and that players "have no choice but to leave for the $$"

Ollie's got a home and a real community for life now, something the Crows can't offer.

I heard two Victorian crow re-signees speaking to the media today. The first was Jordan Gallucci, the second was RAtkins. Both trotted out exactly the same line. “Adelaide’s my home now...”. Was almost as though they were reading from a script.....nah....

Ratkins is too far down the path of derp to ever leave... he's as Crow as you can get. There's still hope for Gallucci though.
