Pies' list facing big cuts

the club must have something brewing...

You know what, so much cap space has been freed up post Fraser, Obree, Lockyer and Medders - one million at least - (not to mention other possible trades), we have the space to bring in Tarrant (back-ended and veterans benefits @ 350k p.a.), expand Trav's contract offer by 50k, but we could almost get a Clark if we had a trade deal that would satisfy.

Not the picks to get Clark as it stands, but with some ingeneuity, you could almost wangle it, almost, with an Anthony and our first round pick.

I think we are better off saving our money to ward off GWS from a few big names next year, and also to pay our youngsters in their next contracts.

Imagine what a Ben Reid or Nathan Brown would be worth in an open market, let alone Sidebottom, Thomas, Pendles etc etc.

Get Tarrant, and then maybe a Currie or a Veszpremi, but no more big names, I don't want to see any of our "own" leaving due to bringing in outsiders.

Jolly does 80% of the ruckwork anyway, we don't need much of a second ruckman, as Leeroy showed all year.

Yeah thats very true. Theres a catch 22 in there though. To get a deal done would require us to trade players as we don't have good enough picks. But we now no longer have the sort of depth we can afford to throw away. I'm sure the club will work out something though.

News we are looking at trading Pick 25 for Andrew Krakouer and a young TAC Cup Ruckman prelisted by the Suns.

Also confirms we offered Medhurst a 1 year deal and other clubs enquired with his management about a trade, but he knocked them all back and has decided to travel for an extended period.

Carlton looking at Jack, and both Pies and Fraser's management looking to find him a new home. Don't think this rule change will help Fraser though.

Need to keep a bit under the salary cap as Swannie is out of contract at the end of next year and you'd think he's due for a pretty big payrise.

True. But the cap space opened up by the retirements of Fraser, Obree, Lockyer and Medders has to be a million at the very least. We can accomodate Tarrant (350k - including the veterans discount), a pay increase for Cloke (50k), and still have 600k left over.

In that scenario, we can definitely accomodate our young players, and possibly get a Clark type if Anthony or Cloke left, although I doubt that's a probability.

Not sure what the club is up to, but no doubt it's savvy.
