I'll be surprised if we keep all of Long, Sullivan and Bytel and I won't be surprised if we don't keep any of them.

They're state league standard depth and don't look likely to become more than that. We can get that any time from the SSP. Go again and try to find ones with a bit more upside.

Bytel is the one I'd look at keeping. Sullivan second. Long, alas, reminds me of a slightly less talented Rupert Wills.

By retaining all of them, younger players are not getting the opportunities and then we will lose all of them at once creating a huge vacuum. We've traditionally compromised our list for short term benefits which hasn't always borne fruit. Except for most of the father-son drafts, our draft record has not been very good. We've given up a lot on trades as well by trying to somehow get the trade done at any cost.

Whatever we say about Ginni, he used to give us a spark and drive which we have lacked this year. Hawks now, play with similar spark like we used to in the first two years of Fly. It all helps in getting the best out of everyone.

I agree with all of this.

Lynch only if we are challenging for the flag next year, which I doubt.I think we've overestimated our list this year and should have let go of a few over 30s -- I know they're contracted but Sidebottom and Cox would be my picks.

Nah. Keep the best 22 blokes - we've got a lot of 22+ VFL players - they're the ones to shed to create space for new blokes

agree. we'll go backwards fast by sacking best 22 players because of their age when there is little to replace them and limited chances to draft this year.

the only qualifier would be if there is a big FA or 2 incoming.

Disagree on this one.

We're heading toward a cliff come 2026.

Next year, we'll be in bottom half of finals.

Teams with better lists next year: Brisbane, Sydney, GWS, Carlton, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, Fremantle.

Year after, we'll hit dreaded 14th-16th as we lose 5+ of our veterans and our 25-30 year old layer is a barren desert.

How can you possibly predict with such confidence where we'll finish next year & the year after.

We don't even know which players we could be bringing in this year nor do we know how our younger players will develop.

Who knows how those sides you listed will go next year with injuries, form & the fall out from how they fare in this year's finals which haven't even started yet 🤣

Cutting them doesn't get us picks. Why make your team worse to make space to add ann SSP player to the list? Particularly if you're projecting us to make finals.

Predicting that with such authority and confidence isnt going to end well.

It was also at Collingwood in the 2010’s.

For example …

Dane Swan retired at 32.
Chris Tarrant retired at 32.
Darren Jolly retired at 31.
Nick Maxwell retired at 31.
Alan Didak retired at 30.
Luke Ball retired at 30.
Travis Cloke retired (from Bulldogs) at 30.
I had wiped the Travis to the kennel thing from my mind.

We’ve been falling off cliffs since we lost 1980 grand final and we’ve played in another 9 grand finals since that cliff

I’m the other way round, keep Long however now I read it you might be onto something with the Rupert comparisons. I reserve the right to change my mind…lol

Long is the same age as Nick and the same size as Cripps. I wouldn't mind giving him another year.

You're right, I sounded more confident than intended. I just think my predictions are likely -- not certain.
