I reckon Josh Fraser is a good pick this year although i havent picked him ive considerd him. He must stay fit though. And with no real 2nd ruckmen he should play a fair amount of time in the ruck.
IMO Cameron Wood should be given ample opportunity in the ruck this year, however Fraser has proven before he is more then adequate resting up forward

While I appreciate you pulling me into line, I really do - please have a read of my other posts and give me a run down of what you think of them - I presented my counter argument in the original post. If you don't tag Ablett he'll get 40 touches and 3 goals a game. I suspect the majority of coaches won't like that.
If thats the case then there is no need to attack someone because their counter-argumnt differs from yours. I believe it was summarised perfectly last night by m0nty and Molly in the podcast in that they said a lot of fantasy coaches are very stubborn and they just seek someone to pat them on the back about being correct. To become a very good DTer I believe you need to be open to all ideas rather then immediatley righting it off because it conflicts with your previous train of thought.

Who is a better option out of

Stephen Hill and Brett Deledio

or

Andrew Raines and Johno Brown?

Option 1 would be good because i get a premium forward in Deledio and a potential cash cow in Hill.

Option 2 would also be good because Brown is reasonably cheap for a player of his caliber and could easily rise 50k in price during the season. And Raines could also break back into his best career form and be a nice cash cow also.

(Option 2 would be more reliable)

Hi guys,

Brennan + McIntosh + Montagna

OR

Gia + Ottens + Masten

thoughts??
gia ottens and masten by a mile. i think masten will just about match montagne. theres a very big risk with brennen, hes too inconsistant for my liking. whereas gia is one of the most consistant forwards. will almost certainly give you 90-100. hmac is overrated in my oppinion and ottens is a top class ruckman/forward.

Why will he miss games in 2009 if form is good? You say this for most players when giving advice, but why? I guess everyone should stay away from Richo because he may get injured and miss most of the year.

If you look at his last 2 years, he struggles to play week in week out. He has only played football for a short period of time. I think hes abut 20, most players at that age have played footy for 13-14 years. He probably only 5 years at most i would think. His body just doesnt seem cut for the highest level yet. That along with his bad durable history has to be taken into consoderation along with him not being a keeper i cant see why you would pick him this year.

a) corey + pendlebury
b) swan + tuck

thoughts?

I'd go with swan + tuck. Can't go wrong with both really.

Dane Swan was a weapon last year, having him from the start was awesome for me. This year, the only way I can fit him in is to upgrade Kornes. So..

Swan + 370k backman

vs

Kornes + Enright?

Ive had the bottom for ages now, but I really want to fit Swan in. Also no idea which 370k backmen to get, there are so many good ones! Narrowed it down to Birchall/Newman/Gram/Shaw/Bock/McMahon lol. I'll probably get Birch but having Sydney twice early is annoying.

hmm. if you want a safe option then by all means go birch. or even newman. but if you wanted to take a punt you could pick shaw. we all know what hes capable of. or for a bit of extra cash what about chris A johnson from carlton? we havnt seen him for the blues yet but i can see him taking up a carrazzo-like role running out of defence

Kornes and Enright for mine.

would go the second option because hill wont play round 1. Try ur best to fit raines and deledio in because raines should be a nice cash cow and deledio is just an absolute freak.

johno brown shouled drop in price during the season too so pick him up later.

also who would people take out of kerr, griffen or foley?

i see upsides in all, but just cant pick.

Thanks for that.

IMO i think Griffen would be the best option

Kerr is too risky and Foley could see himself getting tagged a lot.

Also who would you take out of Bachar Houli and Hamish McIntosh

or

Jason Gram and Jamie Charman?

Jason Gram and Jamie Charman?[/quote]

I think i would go with Gram and Charman. Charman should get lots of time on ground every week. McIntosh is a bit of an unknown and has a higher potential than charman but IMO wont score you as many points in 2009 due to his inconsistancy. I think Gram is also a better option than Houli as he may get some midfield time this year. Even if he doesnt, it looks as though Goddard will which will leave a space for gram to become the main link man in defense for the saint, along with fisher. Also with Mcguire back he wont play many games where he has a job on a good forward. (although im not sure he had manty last year so maybe a moot point)

The one im looking at now is

Masten/cotchin & skipworth

or

Boak and Yarran

Leaning towards boak and yarran at the moment because im not convinced skipworth is a very good footballer. After watching him when he was in adelaide it just doesnt look like he is up to AFL standard. He may prove me wrong but I dont really want him in my side. Yarran is 60 grand cheaper also and i think he can average around 50-60 a games, as opposed to skipworths 55-70. So more of a price increase for yarran as a cash cow.

Boak i think is set for a big year as he is being touted pretty heavily over here as one of port's premier midfielders. Masten and cotchin are both on the rise and IMO will have breakout years. I guess it depends on wether i want Boak to be in my team at seasons end because at his price he is a bit to expensive to be upgraded.

Any thoughts?

I would go for either Gia or Didak. There roles are certain, Harveys looks to have changed slightly.

H Shaw vs Newman

Ive had Newman locked in all summer, but he seems to be playing a much more defensive role this year. Raines and Mcmahon have had the bulk of the rebound work, so im a little unsure on him.

I dont know whether Shaw has learnt to break a tag, but if more teams start to play zones, it wont matter so much. Shaw always carved against the Hawks zone, so if other teams copy the Hawks, it could help his DT game.

Thoughts?

Selwood is much more damaging than Bartel and Corey. He will get the 2nd tag no doubt about that IMO of course. I think their were signs of it late last year and also obviousily the crows game. I think teams may now start to think Ablett is unstoppable, unless we have a gun tagger Crowley or someone f the like. If the teams dont back their tagger to have the ability to stop Ablett than these teams which is probably 11-12 of them will just go one on one with him. Whilst the tagger will go to Selwood who is much more tagable, however we are yet to see this and be able to determine this yet in his career thus far.

Tagging Order at cats
1. Ablett
2. Selwood
3. Bartel
4. Corey

If 1 cant be stopped by the tagger than the tagger goes to number 2 and number 1 gets a one on one. For example this would be a Hayes vs Ablett or a Simpson vs Ablett. Something of the like. Maybe a player a bit quicker but these are players used "head to head".

Good post DWD. Agree with the majority of your post. I agree that alot of teams will look to play one on one (with a damaging player) with Ablett, attempting to make him accountable for a change - which will in turn leave Selwood first in line to cop the tag.

The only part I disagree with is that Selwood is more suscepitble to a tagger negating his scores. I actually think Selwood's game is built very much like the ABC's - as has already been stated, Selwood can play a number of roles, inside or out. Geelongs strong on-ball brigade will surely learn to block and protect him as well. As a result I can't see a tag hurting his numbers that much. As you stated "we are yet to see this (happen)" so it's hard to predict. All we can do is make an educated guess. :)

Newman may not have been playing as the distributor from the HBF tonight but that doesn't mean he was playing a defensive role. I was at the game so I may have missed something that the TV picked up but I thought he was used more through the middle/wing. So long as he isn't tagging (he shouldn't be) he will be very damaging through the midfield. His numbers may increase. Durability is very solid as well.

Every team knows Collingwood's weakness. Tag Heath Shaw. I can't see that changing much. The nature of this makes it possible for Shaw to be picked up cheaper during the season after a few heavy tags. :thumbsu:

Kangaroos3: Charman has had an interrupted pre-season. Missed last NAB game through injury. That's the extent that I know of it. Personally wouldn't recommend him if he was fit anyway.

Opinions much appreciated...

Which Group of players ??

Houlihan, Kornes, Hayes, Gibbs

or

Coughlan, Birchall, Swan, Bartel

:thumbsu:

I see most of the first option offeirng growth.
The second offers more solid options but little growth and im really not sold on Coughlan.
As such 1st

Boyd and Maric

vs

Knights and Fraser

I think option 2 potentially gives me another keeper, but Knights and Fraser do have problems with staying on the park. What do others think? Thanks.

Paul Hasleby

or

Daniel Rich + 130k?
Hasleby is a definite starter if fit, Rich isn't IMO. It really depends what you could do with that extra $130k, if you could gain an extra keeper then maybe take Rich but just by comparing the two I'd take Hasleby.

didak, harvey or giansiracusa???
Do you want the consistant captain who may drop his scores this year.
The bad boy who can occassionaly score that 100.
Or a forward who can get big scores and is usually consistant.

Gia looks like the best option by my writeups, but I wouldnt choose him out of the 3.
