A friend in WA that was part of a conversation or near.

Josh needs to kick more goals. Im not sure how he fits in the Port midfield.
He'd be a tenacious defensive forward but needs to learn how to kick goals.
Ross Lyon never gave him a chance until he was the last healthy option on the Freo list, even after amassing huge numbers in the WAFL. Hes a great clubman, well liked and respected and deserves a crack. As a West Aussie, Port supporter and immediate family member of Josh, id love to see Schoey bring him to Port. You're right, Schoey does like Josh.
He averaged the same number of votes as Horsley in the Subiaco B&F but missed 3 games due to suspension. Polled very well in the Sandover and was a leading clearance and tackler in the WAFL.
I just cant see him making it without playing forward, a position he hasn't had a lot of success in. Neade, Barry and Wingard all departing suggests his type of role would need to be predominantly forward.

Probably just a depth option

What are the rules on recruiting ex-AFL players to the Magpies? Deluca is young and has had a full year off an AFL list so maybe that is where our interest is.

DollaDollaBeal is 100% right that Deluca’s best chance at AFL level is as a defensive forward - like the role Matt De Boer plays for GWS. If we feel we are a serious contender next year than I’d understand chasing a player like that but if we miss the 8 again it could just be wasting an opportunity to get 20 games into Farrell/Johnson and a year’s development into a rookie key defender.

Was speaking to a senior player yesterday who I've chatted to a few times about footy and asked his opinions on some of the player trades that have occurred.

  1. Polec- always knew he was going to leave. A loss on the field, but not off it.
  2. Pittard- didn't expect that he'd get traded, not keen on North, but was always going to head back to Vic and knew his time in the best 22 was up- just a bit sooner than expected
  3. Wingard- no fussed in the slightest he's gone. Expects he will still do some brilliant things at the Hawks. Lazy.
  4. Burton- absolutely thrilled to get him. He's already been around the club/players. Good vibes.

Power assistant wants ex-Hawk to be a man in the middle

I’m loving him (Schofield) already
The Power's backline was its strength last season, opening the door for Burton to be used on the wing or across half-forward.
Schofield said Burton has the skills to succeed in the midfield.
"I'd love him to, he's another one you add to your depth, don't just pigeon-hole him as a back," Schofield told reporters on Monday.
"I'm not the one to make those final decisions on selection, but with his foot skills and elite running ability, I can tell you right now, I'll be putting his name up."
Watts could also be under Schofield's guidance after he had a disappointing first season with the Power this year playing predominately in attack.
"Someone with his foot skills and decision making is valuable to the side," Schofield said.

I like the above from Doctor Feel post

Youngsters Joe Atley, Willem Drew and Jake Patmore could play more significant roles next year, while the Power also have picks five, 10, 15 and 85 at next week's NAB AFL Draft.

I really liked this:

"It depends what you classify as speed," Schofield said.

"Speed can be obviously leg speed, or is it speed of mind, speed of ball, getting it to the outside, so there's a mixture of that.
