Player 'Mix up' (Mayne recruitment) and Collingwood's playling list management issues

The unprofessionalism of your organisation must bother you though

What a disaster when one area doesn't know what the other is doing and the net result is you get a dreadful 4 year contract that any sane person knew was woeful
Have you got something new to add or are you just going to repeat the same post all the time?

Yeah biggest blue in the history of footy, well worth its own thread. We've mucked up, but it didn't cost us anything more than cap space.
Hello Melbourne- you chose Scully & Trengove over Dustin Martin.
Hello Richmond you chose Richard Tambling over Buddy Franklin.
Hello Essendon kicked out of the finals, loss of a Brownlow, fined millions, players banned for a year.

Yeah big blue Pies, like earth shattering ......

Melbourne no flag for 53 years, they surely could have used Dusty.

Richmond no flag for 37 years they surely could have used Buddy.
Funny how none of the coaches of said players came out publicly and said 'we really stuffed up taking Tambling over Buddy Franklin' or the like.

The issue isn't that Collingwood made a mistake recruiting Mayne. It's that Buckley was senseless enough to come out and publicly bemoan the decision.

I wish we were good enough to go out in straight sets. We can't even make the main event.

Mate ! You've just pissed all over my tiger supporter baiting with your inconvenient truths. C'mon man, can't we even stay united in our contempt for Richmond FFS.

you ignored or selectively edited out the first bit

"There were a few things mixed up with (Mayne's recruitment)," Buckley said.

"The director of football was flipping around, and there were a few things that happened in there that weren't ideal.

"It's been a tough year for 'Mayney', and we've got some decisions to make going forward with that.

I referred to that in the 2nd bit.
Also - those comments are referring more to Gubby and the Contract, rather than Mayne as a person/player - which seems to be what people are accusing Bucks of.

Bucks basically said "you're a crap player Mayne, go away."

The AFL is all about mental health public relations, so I wonder how this went down?
Yeah like every time a player is dropped or delisted we need to consider the effect on their well being / mental health?
Coaches should no longer hurt players feelings.
Ridiculous

Publically trashing someone is different than simply dropping someone. Bucks didn't need to say this. He did it to justify the contract extension which he didn't deserve.

Snowflake Football.
Don't hurt players feelings by what you publically say.
Every time a player is delisted or dropped he is denigrated in a very public way.

The dad's of Cloke, Mayne and Stewart have all been so angry with the club over their sons treatment that they've publicly had a go at Collingwood...not a good look for them, it suggests their communication needs to improve.

Sure Cloke was playing poorly and so is Mayne, but in both cases Collingwood made public comments about them being poor which seems to have pissed off their families since they were publicly being thrown under the bus and in their eyes being made the scapegoat for Collingwoods problems.

Then James Stewart's dad said the club didn't speak to James and then said they won't be drafting him, thus shattering his dreams, right before his VCE exams...so the communication and timing of it all was inconsiderate.

But by the coach? Buckley is trying to close the door on past failures to have a clean slate going forward. That means disowning Mayne. Don't play the guy. Fine. But this is still a dog act by Bucks.

I agree it was a dumb decision. He got the yips at Freo and couldn't kick a goal. Why Collingwood picked him is beyond me. But they did. Buckley was all over his recruitment. He was in the meetings. It blew up in his face and now he publically disowns the guy. Side by side? Hah.

Real leadership is taking responsibility for your entire organisation and backing everyone. Buckley has sold his own player down the river in order to make himself look like he's never made a mistake. Piss poor and every Collingwood player should take note that their coach isn't going to have their back when the going gets tough. Just the first chapter of a book called "You made a massive mistake re-signing Buckley".

Exactly. You get it.

I can remember close to 85% of Collingwood supporters on the Pies board saying it was a stupid decision before it happened, how can so many outsiders be right.

Hopefully they were saying the same thing about Dunn & Wells.

You recruited like you played in a prelim in 2016, not like you were building a good young list. Every game these guys played and every $$$ they took off your cap has put you back. Richmond did a little bit of this stupid shit, picking up the Brad Miller, Matt Thomas types instead of relying on draftees. Pisses me off no end when a club tries to take shortcuts that make the journey longer.

As for what Buckley said, pretty unprofessional considering Mayne is playing VFL for Collingwood tomorrow.

Nup both of those guys have been great, whenever Wells plays we're a chance to win and Dunn is an upgrade on Nathan Brown (who I still rate)

Way to throw your player under the bus also lmao. Sorry, your current contract is a mix-up and I don't actually rate you at all.
