A nice super for Chris when Freo were likely to give him one more year at best. He was solid in Freo when they were a good side threatening for the flag.

He must have been scratching his head when Collingwood arrived with the cheque book and 4 years ... he would have been thinking wow they think I am better than I think I am. I will take the brass, who knows maybe they are right! (sadly they weren't)

Collingwood paid dearly for the old boys club recruitment of Gubby Allan ... to add insult to injury they kicked out Neil Balme to get him.

Buckley's comments roughly translate to: "oh yeah Mayney's a top bloke and he's good at training and that. But some other bloke signed off on this deal and hopefully we can talk him into leaving".
Don't have too much problem with him saying that given Mayne hasn't performed and it was mostly Gubby's decision.

However You may have an issue if your boss came out publicly to say that it was a mistake to employ you (if you actually have a job of course)
Reporters don't interview my boss. It's not ideal for Mayne but at the end of the day he's get paid allot of money whilst not performing, if he didn't want the scrutiny he shouldn't have accepted the contract.

I'm also don't blame him for signing it's our fault for offering it to him it's just when you sign these are the things you have to be prepared for. Buckley didn't make vitriolic comments about him and even commended his attitude.

These sorts of things happen when you have a game show host as president and a coach who has never done anything of note at all in his life other than play football, and a pointless parasite like graham allan who should never have been brought back to club in the first place.

I can see the Collingwood side completely imploding if they fall behind the ledger early next year. There seems to be some brittleness in the way the group is bonded. A fairly talented group that appears to swim in circles; so I question the leadership through the club. Taylor Adams could be a Tony Shaw type if given the captaincy. This young group would improve quickly once McGuire, Buckley and Pendlebury have been turned over for the good of Collingwood; however they look like missing that opportunity. They may have to reset the rebuild again in 2019.

He shouldn't accept public scrutiny from the coach stating that his 'contract' was a mix up.
If SBS was running subtitles, that would read, "he hasn't been as good as what I thought, I'm annoyed that I can't delist him as he has 3 years at 1.5mil of a contract remaining. I would rather blame someone else for this, oh but he's a good bloke an all."

Mayne has been poor. Fair enough.

How exactly does Blair demand the position he gets?

Never had any respect for Buckley and he's winning at being the worst speaker ever.

How'd he get a 2 year extension? I mean seriously?

Do you think that's true?
It's interesting that the AFL and the media quite rightly, constantly sell us the message of how we should be supportive of players with MH issues and yet here we have a coach and the media running with how the **** did we end up paying this much for such a spud - do we seriously think mayne would just be sitting at home feeling comfortable with all this attention

Excellent post.

kind of rests on whether buckley had already spoken to mayne about this issue or not.
if he's discussing a listed player in this manner before talking to the individual it paints some of the stuff in the lumumba thread in an interesting light. he might be full of pseudo-intellectual babble but his comments on buckley's lack of emotional intelligence begin to look like they are carrying some weight.
on the other hand, if buckley has already come out and said the same to mayne before commenting to an afl.com.au journalist there's not really an issue. as hard as it might be to hear, if it was an honest mix-up (whatever the hell that is) and he's already let mayne know there's not really a problem.

Geez really doesn't speak well for a well run powerhouse of the competition. I keep hearing about the "great" people of Collingwood. I sure don't see results though. The fact an average unit like Taylor Adams is being spoken about as future captain says enough.

Can you imagine Bucks sitting Mayne down at the end of season interview and start off by saying "Son, you were an accident....and you're adopted. How are you you enjoying Collingwood?"

Bucks should try Googling class because he's sure not very familiar with the term

If you had actually watched them play this year, under the scrutiny they were under, you wouldn't believe this to be true at all.

I also like how people have been ripping the Pies all season for recruiting Mayne, yet when Buckley admits that it might not have been the greatest move, and that they were expecting more out of the player this year (a fair, honest, and reasonable call, regardless of Mayne's salary) suddenly Buckley is "classless" and "a terrible man manager" with "no people skills" once again
