Plea to channel 7: Refrain from focussing on celebrity fans this Saturday

I think there are too many crowds shots full stop. It's not only football, I was watching the Davis Cup tennis the other day and between every point they would show random people in the crowd, why??? Would rather see the expression on the faces of the players as they contemplate their next serve or return than some 10 year old with his face painted waving a flag.

The choice of camera angles from Channel 7 has been poor ever since they won the exclusive rights back from Channel 10 - that includes the jumpy rubbish angles of on-field action. Looking back at the vids of our 1990s premierships, there was a tasteful amount/selection of cuts to the crowd. Now they love to focus on corporates sitting there with their arms crossed, trying not to barrack too hard on camera (or not having much desire to barrack at all).

Seems to be part of Channel 7's philosophy of turning footy into a fully television-orientated event. Their own employees get airtime rather than dyed-in-the-wool supporters. They'd rather show 15 ultra-closeup angles of players spitting or finger pointing rather than fans who are bursting into tears and jumping for joy. And most importantly of all to them, they make sure to adjust the crowd microphone so the passionate roars don't distract from the commentators' over-the-top or unfunny calls.

The thing that annoys me the most is how quickly Molloy drops off after a bad loss.

After our Carlton and Port finals he was scathing on the club on the Monday. I'll never forget listening to it and thinking he wasn't a true supporter. I know he is as he goes every week yada yada, but I hate that he is built up as our mascot when he showed no loyalty in those moments.

He's been a well known Richmond supporter as long as I can remember so at least you can't accuse him of being a bandwagoner but those celebrity supporters become a lot more prominent when their team is successful and playing in big finals.

Eric Bana has been a long time St Kilda supporter too but most people wouldn't have been aware of that until St Kilda were playing GFs in 2009/10 and he became the go to Saints celebrity supporter along with Molly Meldrum and Shane Warne.

Can see it already.

"Tex kicks the goal.... and look at LLEYTON!! Ohh he's pumped look at him go! What do you thinks going through his head right now? The Aussie open champ must have felt some emotion out on the court, must be feeling like he's back out there" (play resumes) "And now we're crossing live to Lleyton. LLEYTON can you hear us!? What's it like out there?"
He never won the Aus Open

Yeah the fanatics probably wouldn't exist if their ugly mugs weren't repeatedly shown in the crowd.
Those pricks always look like they've come straight from the cronulla riots

In this instance it was mostly the Belgian fans which just goes to show it's not restricted to Australian sports coverage.

Yes, continual focussing on people in the crowd has always been a mystery to me. Can you imagine going to watch a movie, and every 30 seconds they cut to people in the audience stuffing their faces with chips or rolling jaffas down the aisle? Yes, we KNOW there are people in the crowd, you don't need to keep reminding us.

Surely they can both find some bigger bandwagoners. Dogs had the Hemsworth brothers last year, and Timmy Cahill.
Reminds me of an article by Cooney in the Hun.
"Sure, the usual bandwagon jumpers have all come on board; never in my 11 years at the Dogs did I shake hands with the great Tim Cahill. Now he’s practically giving the lads their rub-downs post game. It would have been a career highlight to get my calves and hammies done, Timmy — where were you when Coondog needed you most! (probably earning millions playing premier league, yes, but no excuses!)"

Don't show the crowd reactions at all please. The final siren of the 2009 Grand Final was focused on some lady in the crowd with a blank expression on her face. Show us the reactions post game.
To this day I still have not seen Maxy Rooke's goal after the siren. C10 cut to that woman, then the coaches, then the other players. All they showed was the ball dribble past the line with no-one near it

Who the heck was in charge of camera angles on Friday night?

We had one period in the second quarter where they had about 10 seconds of a close up ground level shot, where you couldn't see anything because players bodies were blocking line of sight.

They then switched to a long helicopter shot where the Riverbank stand was blocking pretty much all of the players on the ground. It was terrible.

Here you go. I cut up my shaking, terrible, mid-celebration footage of the goal from the back of the northern stand.

Still better than channel 7.

The worst thing about this is this is EXACTLY the type of thing they'd do.

Gary posted a video of himself singing the song I'm coming home. Pretty hilarious, must be confident on a trade
