Please Take Cotchin!!!!!!!

You cannot use our lack of ruckmen to justify taking Kreuzer at #1. Ruckmen take 3-4 years to develop. Its far too much pressure to put on Kreuzer to expect him to fix our ruck problems. We need to draft based on likelihood of success.

By all accounts, Kreuzer is a freak of nature. A ruckman with the speed and endurance of a midfielder and a mean competitive streak. Those should be the reasons we draft him, not because we 'need a ruckman'. By the time he is up to speed, Aisake, Hampson, or whoever could be our top ruckman. Dean Cox could walk out of West Coast next year allowing us to swing another big trade. You never know. Ruckmen are notoriously hard to find and trying to conjure them when they aren't there doesn't work. We should take Kreuzer on his football skills. If Cotchin is better, we should take him on his football skills - end of story,.

Damn right :)

Damn right :)

As a follow-up point - as time goes on, I'm more and more sold on Kreuzer. Just sounds like a once-off type guy who will be a fantastically unique player. But he's likely going to take 3 years to develop; but will play every game in that time, probably with a few shockers in there too. On the other hand, Cotchin is going to walk straight in and be productive in Richmond or West Coast's midfield (and I have this strong suspicion Richmond are going to do something really, really stupid). Taking Kreuzer damns us to 2-3 years of being on the wrong side of Kreuzer vs Cotchin debates.

He'll escape some criticism because of Murphy and Gibbs, but early in their career when the spotlight is shining brightest, we'd have to be really convinced that Kreuzer could cope with having the #2 pick playing better than him (and the 10 Bigfooty threads a day discussing it).

Took me a little while to get on his bandwagon. It was only after watching the champs games a couple of times did I truly get on.

Cranbourne was the seller for me. Couple of those runs out in the open and through traffic were fairly special.

IMO of a outsider

i believe you must take Kruezer given his performances in this year he has been proven worthy of the hype. Looking towards the future as well, you need someone like him.

Cotchin however is an awesome player but really, you dont really need him since you have

-JUDD -STEVENS
-GIBBS -MURPHY
-CARRAZO (feel free to add more)

as your prime on ballers you dont really need cotchin.

But however, which way you go, i am sure you will get value for money.

To be honest, while we still had picks 1 and 3, I was all for taking both of them or possibly Cotchin and Masten. But with pick 3 going to the weagles and after reading all the stories about Kreuzer, I am definitely leaning towards taking him and possibly playing him in the latter half of the year as a ruck-rover/FP player.

As the quoter stated, our midfield is in pretty good shape and Cotchin would only be a small bit of icing on the whole cake. While it would be nice to take him, getting another 200cm player who can run all day would be a much better option.

And considering that our ruck division isnt really going to be all that great for the next year or so as our young rucks get the experience needed so that they can dominate. Kreuzer would be a good addition to that and would be about 1 year behind Hampson and Aisake in rucking skill in 2 years time. Which means in 2010, we will have 3 of the best young rucks in the league which is good.

Sorry to troll but was interested to know the thoughts of Blues supporters on the upcoming draft day. I have always believed that a gun midfield wins flags. As one poster said look at west coast. Now everyone will say yeah but we need a ruck. Everitt for us was one and still I think is one of the best tap ruckman going around. We still got SMASHED out of the middle every time because we didn't have a strong midfield. Kruzer is awesome and so is Cotchin. Anyway good luck with the decision and I think either way it will be the righ one!

Here he is, injury question marks sadly.

I realy think we need another capable big fella, the loss of Kennedy has to be considered.

Not really. We never really need Kennedy in the side last year. He only played because he was a talent and a high draft pick, not because he helped our balance in the forward line. We don't really need another tall forward. We need a ruck or two (Hampson, Kruezer, Aisake), a HFF/Midfielder or two (Cotchin, Gibbs), and a key defender (???, Setanta?)

I totally agree but I think I'm one of the few on this board. Most Carlton supporters appear to be obssessed with the old '90s idea that all you need is quality key position players and that top quality midfielders can be found under any dung hill despite our last five years proving otherwise.

The game has changed people, it's the midfield that wins you matches and scientific testing has proven that ruckwork has essentially no impact on the results of a game.

PS: Do you know which team had the best key position players last year? Nope not the Cats (FB Scarlett, CHB Egan, CHF Nobody, FF Nobody), it was Essendon (FB Michael, CHB Flecther, CHF Lucas, FF Lloyd)

Cam Mooney and Steve Johnson also had career years up forward. But hey they're nobody.;)

I'm with you gandaal. I've finally settled on Cotchin at #1.

In that case, we'll trade Stevens and Carrazzo to Hawthorn for Franklin or Thorp and call it even.

Yep I"ve settled on Cotchin too HBF.

I want a powerful, dominating midfield - we still lack depth in this area, and I'm all for building it up so that it is one of the strongest going around.
What happens if Stevens and Judd get injured?

I know who I'm voting for in both elections this weekend. Vote 1: Cotchin :thumbsu:

I'm with Gandaal and HBF on this one, Cotchin is what we need. Just picture our mid line with all our players + Cotchin (a game winning talent who has speed, agility and a footy brain), we would be rated an A+ mid field.

We have a few big men who can stay in the centre, try tap the ball and see how it goes (apart from that, big rucks aren't really worth anything, they're too lanky and look totally unco). What Carlton really need is some quality backmen! Keep A. O'hAilpin & Cloke as the interchange rucks, put S. O'hAilpin in the back line with (hate to say this, but worth a shot) Akland to join Thornton. If Cloke is rucking, put Aisake to join his bro and watch that powerhouse destroy any teams forward line.

Kreuzer is a rare and exciting talent, he only won the B&F with the Knights because Cotchin only played 8 games, imagine if he played all....? Kreuzer just needs more time to develop to be considered a great ruck/KPP.

Vote for Cotchin :D.

What does that have to do with who we draft?

We didn't pick Gibbs to address our midfield weakness last year, but because he's a gun footballer and can flat out play.

I'm sick of hearing Carlton supporters and amateurs talking up Cotchin as their number one pick.

It's threatening to take the shine off the prize that is the number one pick and Matthew Kreuzer who is a gun. I fear it will be like last year and people will say "Why didn't we pick Proud or Jetta?" because several draft watchers rated those players as two of the best footballers in the draft.

If we pick Kreuzer or Cotchin it will be because we rate him the best young footballer in the draft, not because we needed a young ruckman or a young midfielder. I agree with TGR's comment that we should unite behind the player we pick at one, but I have my doubts after reading some of the threads that have been started on this board.

The main argument from most who support picking Kruezer is that he's a ruckman and we need a ruckman, therefore people who think we should pick Cotchin are well within their rights to point out that we need a dynamic, quick, goalkicking midfielder just as much.
