Republicans will try and keep going with gerrymandering, purging voter rolls, making it harder for people to vote etc. The dems need to fight back on these things, if they don't, as I said you will just have "elections" in the way Putin and Orban have them, and depending on the US public and how these changes happen it could be like the frog in the boiling water, they just let it happen and that is that, or the dems hit back, OR we have protests and action which make BLM look like childs play.

Yes I agree, the Trump presidency will be dysfunctional in a way that we have not witnessed before.

It will be dysfunctional because the policies that he tries to impose will be opposed by mass social protests.

Only a week ago, Harris was warning that Trump is a fascist and threat to democracy. Only a month ago Biden likewise acknowledged that Trump is a fascist. In a speech in August, Biden declared: "Trump will be a dictator from day 1".

As Trump now proceeds to nominate his fascist stooges into key government positions, we are witnessing the disgusting spectacle of Biden and all the Democrats performaing an 180 degree back flip.

In a staggering statement, Biden offered to do “everything we can to make sure you’re accommodated, have what you need.” This, to a man whom he knows is a fascist and a mortal threat to US democracy.

Biden posed for the cameras shaking hands and congratulating Trump on his victory. Yes, congratulating a fascist for winning the election and promising to co-operate in every way to allow this fascist to amass immense personal political power and carry out his fascist agenda.

Biden is still currently the President of the USA. He still has immense power in his hands. He could warn the US population about the intentions of Trump, the policies that Trump intends to carry out and the implications (which Biden and the Democrats are fully aware of).

There are innumerable actions Biden could take to undermine the actions of a Trump presidency, which is preparing a massive assault on millions of immigrants and the democratic rights of the population.

However, Biden and the Democrats totally reject any such course of action. Because far more than a fascist goverment under Trump, they fear an independent social rebellion in the working class in opposition to the development of a fascist regime in the US. Instead, the Democrats would prefer to collaborate with Trump and allow it to happen smoothly.

In some ways this does resemble Chile in 1973, as another poster alluded to. Allende preferred to present the military as a reasonable force with whom he could negotiate, rather than expose to the working class the threat of a fascist coup by Pinochet and the military.

He told the Chilean workers to disarm, because everything could be resolved in Parliament.

As a result, the military junta had the time to prepare a devastating coup which resulted in mass murder and torture, and the establishment of a brutal fascist dictatorship which enforced the devastating economics of Milton Friedman on the Chilean population, leading to mass impoverishment enforced by a police state.

Allende himself was murdered (as could happen to the Democrats themselves if Bannon has his way).

In the final analysis, Allende and the Democrats both fear a movement from below far more than the imposition of authoritarian forms of capitalist rule.
