Autopsy Poor 1st qtr effort & matchups sees Dogs lose another one to them by 13 pts

Has any coach lost as many games for their side as Beveridge has? All the coach has to do is pick a structured side and have solid processes for players to execute. Coaches should never ever be the reason sides lose.

He literally sets this side up to fail, it’s so infuriating. It’s always the same obvious shit.

Gardy had done well on Cameron un the past, was the logical matchup, made no sense
I thought for the most part he did well on him again tonight. The last two goals that he kicked came out of a scrabbled kick out of a pack. Luke Hodge taking a giant shit on him from the commentary box for not predicting the unpredictable was very poor form. Camerons last goal was from making a good tackle on a trapped Richards. Nothing to do with Gardner.

Gardner and Keith were fine. When... they were moved onto their logical ****ing opponents late in the first.

2nd ruck didn't effect much.
Baku did ok
It was too many midget forwards Even worse they are really excess midfielders not needed as we have a midfield.,So they are playing forward. Ridiculous ,l don't need to name them. They all would be ok midfielders, but apart from weightman aren't forwards.. Naughton has a down game and no one else to go to.Because we are too short.
The two ruck issues did affect the game tonight.

We have to say to Tim that you don't get to choose where you play - you'll do what's good for the team. That might mean playing big minutes up forward in some games and in others, it will mean playing mostly on the ball.

We simply must play a viable second ruck option teamed with Tim - that doesn't necessarily mean Sweet - it might be Schache - but it sure as hell should NOT be Kamis, Dunkley, or Bontempelli.

I know there is going to be a chorus of I told ya so's say we lost the game because we didnt play a second tall forward or because we didnt play Sweet. Im calling bullshit on all that. We lost the game because Beveridge made one of the dumbest coaching moves of his career. He did this by starting Keith on Cameron and Gardner on Hawkins. What the duck was he thinking? Neither of our players was a physical match up for their direct opponent and it gave Geelong what proved to be an insurmountable 5 goal head start. It was only when he shuffled these two onto their logical opponents (saving the two late goals to Cameron) that the game turned back in our favour.

Hey Bevo! Take a long hard look in the mirror and give yourself an uppercut. You outsmarted us out of that game from the first bounce.
This. Then at the start of the third Keath was on Rohan. Bevo will probably sook about cuts to the footy department in his presser though. Getting dominated by a 12 gamer in SDK and freaking Zach Guthrie the spud doing his best Tom Stewart impression was damning.

Last quarter showed exactly why we needed 2 rucks.

English was cooked Stanley and Blicavs taking uncontested marks.

We get within 7 points- Buku goes in there. Stanley gets it out easily. 2 goals and game over.

We needed English fresher and we needed Sweet in there smashing into Stanley. A 20 yo 190cm kid doesn’t really help much.

In retrospect that West Coast game was the worst thing that could have happened.
This is spot on!

I’m not drawing much consolation from the idea that we ‘fought it out.’ I’m more concerned about the players whose decision making and skills went to water when the heat was really on. Some not for the first time when under pressure from good teams. We can beat all of the middle-of-the-road teams we like, but it means little when sone players turn into panic merchants when it really counts.

Problem is we could give him help by playing the additional tall instead of him one out. Or select another ruck option and get our other decent tall marking option like English more time up forward.

It's not as if the cupboard/options are bare. It doesn't take a genius to reconfigure the forward line.
We should be playing English as a forward / part time ruck to help Naughton in the forward line, at least until Bruce is back. And have Sweet as the primary ruck

English has a few years under his belt and would compete better than Kamis or Jamarra as a forward.

Maybe English has told the club he wants to play primary ruck or he's leaving. It seems the only plausible explanation for why they insist on playing a 22 yr old Kamis and a 20 yr old Jamarra forward instead of Tim English

Problem is this is a list issue because outside of Hannan the only other natural forwards we have is Bedendo. Then next options are JJ and Jones. other than that it’s average mids we are trying to invent as forwards
Totally disagree. That’s not a list issue. That’s a f*cking selection issue. We could have been playing Wallis, Marra, Schache, JJ, Bedendo, Jones, and Sweet. They are on the list and available. Sweet allows English to push forward where he almost kicks a goal every time. This is not rocket science.

Stop with the VFL midget squad. What the absolute f*ck.

Reeked of the grand final against Melbourne, Especially Bailey Dale.

I don't think this loss is on the players. There was no lack of effort. They played to the game plan, including the lunacy of our manning-the-mark strategy. We seriously got this very wrong at selection and then compounded the problems with piss poor coaching.

I agree
Too many midget forwards
Having said that I think we could squeeze in a 2nd ruckman
Yes, Baku look ok to me too

yep, went to water under pressure again, Dale's turnovers costly again

It's bad enough not selecting 2 rucks (giving us flexibility to play English forward when we need). Its even ****ing worse that we don't have enough ruck options given to us by our list management team.

Whoever thinks it's viable to have only 3 rucks on the list (one of whom is a broken down 35 year old) is ****ing kidding themselves. Meanwhile lets have about 1 billion small mids/half backs (looking at you louis butler) that we dont actually need,

Bedendo and Jones are still very raw and not ready.
I thought at least one of JUH or Schache should have come in or Sweet could have stayed in.
Jj is not ready yet after injury.
Wallis is a mod turned into a forward but does at least regularly find the goals.

A number of the regular issues tonight.

Our pressure, intensity and skills were deplorable and we paid the price. They only ever reached an average level and we got back into the game.

We are clearly a fwd/ruck, key defender, quick small forward and a skilled outside player with pace short of being a genuine top 4 chance. They are not on the list.

Team selection was not the issue, team set up was from the wrong defensive match ups, to starting McCrea on the bench to not having Buku up forward at the start to take pressure off Naughton. This was on Bevo.

However poor skills, decision making, lack of contest, effort and workrate is 100% on the playing group

I have actually hated watching every match this season.

It’s so unenjoyable.

Between our poor performances, the ridiculous knee-jerk response to “umpire abuse”, the terrible commentators (Hodge, Daisy Pearce, Montagna).

I swear i’m an addict who refuses to give it up despite the fact that i get zero pleasure from it.

I actually welcome the bye week. duck footy.
I feel the same.

The dissent rule in particular is the most frustrating.

Players generally only show it as a genuine, natural reaction to a stinker decision.

Which means the stinker decision gets compounded by an additional penalty, which is truly mind numbing in every respect.
