Who's holding who for ransom? He finished 5th in the league in marks, third in our best and fairest, kicked 30 something goals and played all 22 games. His market value is exceedingly high after this season. Not too many ready made key position players come on the market, do they? You wanted to give us crap for him, we wouldn't take it. HA! You wouldn't offer us the players we wanted and couldn't make the trades for the ones we did. If you want to be dark at anyone, try Essendon, as they were the third party in this and wouldn't lower their asking price either.

As for the rest of the league not respecting us, I think there'd be a great number of club committees out there quietly pleased with the result. It shows players want to walk away that wont always be pandered to by the clubs. Hawthorn drove a hard deal, did well from it. You're all only crying because you thought you were going to get something for nothing.

Right. We're the bad guys because we wouldn't let the players go to the clubs they wanted without getting something equitable in return? So when Petrie decides he wants to be a Hawk, you're going to let him waltz out the door, aren't you?

I respect Port for what they did, they couldn't make the deal and the player wouldn't be reasonable, so they took the only available option and sent him to the draft. I would've hated that to happen with Jade, but if it came down to it, I was prepared for it to happen. Too many good players have left the Hawks for next to no return. I can't believe you did the right thing in your mind when you could have still got jacobs dealing with the kangas. Danny Jacobs made his name floating as a loose man in defence, he couldn't man up to save his life. A jason cloke wannabe, he can't kick goals and was only made to look good by the likes of solomon, fletcher and lucas. Yes, you traded them away. It happens with every club. But, if you'd given the Dons the deal they wanted for Jacobs, you would have gotten Rawlings. It seems none of you want to acknowledge Essendons part in this and just want to vent at the Hawks because we got what we wanted for our player. So you lost out on a deal when you thought it was a given, too bad, you'll get over it.

And Danny Jacobs will play the same role with Hawthorn, no doubt, and play it well. We've got Croad for CHB, Hay at FB, I guess that makes DJ the third tall in defence (or fourth or fifth if we want, with Graham and Beaumont). As for him being unable to kick goals, last time I checked thats not a defenders job, is it? As for him playing on Rawlings, who cares? Jade will be busy watching his own back, because I'd say there'd be a few players who'd be happy to put him on his arse.

Okay, time for me to sign off from this thread. All I want to do is point out that Hawthorn do not owe Jade and North anything in terms of trades.

Hawthorn were staring down the barrell at losing a quality tall marking player for a poor return. But we held our nerve and managed to negotiate a deal that was satisfactory for the club, but contrary to Jades wishes. Football nowdays is a business, not a charity, and facing the likely prospect of getting no return at all if they didn't get the deal done, Hawthorn found another way to get what they felt was a fair deal for a good player.

Sure, you've had trades where you've had to give up quality players (Bell, McKernan, Carey, etc) for what you percieve as a poor return. But if it was North in Hawthorn's place, I doubt any of you would be complaining now, would you? Besides, you didn't lose anything from the deal, you've still got pick 9. So whats to complain about?
