46. C Taylor [pass]
49. B Scott [tick]
69. J Crocker [who?]

If Will Phillips ever ends up a player and don't get me wrong, I'm still ****ing worried he won't, it hasn't been so much our recent drafting, it looks promising ish. It's the players we have recruited in. If that's Rawling's sole decision then so be it, but I wonder how much the coaches have had input into these mature recruits, because they are all ****ing hopeless.

I would have thought he'd have more of a say in trading rather than drafting?

How the **** is Duursma a tick based on current evidence?

Not commenting on whether he will or won’t be successful but there is absolutely no way he could be a tick at this stage.

And Goater and Bergman are ticks 😂😂

No we're a great team with superstars everywhere. It's just bad luck that we are bottom two again.

My take on rooboytom_90 's ticks/no ticks

2023
2. McKercher [likely tick]
4. Duursma [too early - some signs]
20. Goad [too early]
22. W Dawson [too early]
23. R Hardeman [too early - some signs]

2022
3. Sheezel [big tick]
4. Wardlaw [very likely tick but not there yet]
26. B George [too early]
56. C Harvey [probably not a tick]

2021
1. Horne-Francis [big fat no tick - obviously talented but also obviously a douchebag]
22. J Goater [likely tick]
35. P Curtis [tick]
38. M Bergman [on the fence - leaning towards 'no tick']
59. Archer [tick]

2020
3. W Phillips [on the fence - leaning towards 'no tick' but I still have hope]
13. T Powell [tick]
36. C Lazzaro [no tick]
42. Spicer [no tick]
56. E Ford [on the fence - probably more 'tick' than 'no tick' but there's a ceiling]

2019
31. C Comben [tick]
34. J Mahony [absolutely no tick]
35. F Perez [absolutely no tick]

2018
8. Tarryn Thomas [tick, with a huge asterisk obviously]
46. C Taylor [no tick]
49. B Scott [tick]
69. J Crocker [no tick]

Add in all our mid-season draft picks during that time period and I think the only likely 'tick' is Brynn Teakle?

Rawlings first draft and trade period at North was 2020.

He joined the club following the 2019 draft. He joined a year after the Pickett/Powell pick trade even occurred. 2019 in hindsight was an absolute terrible draft to trade out of (i.e, it's one of the strongest drafts of the decade)

Also, the Covid draft.

His first non-Covid draft was (still majorly effected) was the JHF draft.

I think the last 2 drafts have been particularly good.

Are the ticks relative to the position they were taken in?

I mean based off the Sheezel thread, Rawlings picked possibly the GOAT with pick #3 (and escape the JHF fiasco)! I think Harry puts enough credit in Rawling's bank to survive for a little longer yet.

Masterstroke to take one of the top prospects with a pick we had for being shite.

drafting can be a real crapshoot, hard to give him credit or knock him for results there, when every team will hit one some and whiff on some.

The trades have been awful though, no real impact from anyone traded in

So 2020 was an abject failure. Taking 3 similar one-paced midfielders, a scared small forward and an Elvis impersonator.

He was placed on gardening leave by WC in mid-2019 and joined in December 19. It's difficult to envisage a situation where the club traded out of the 2019 first round without his imput or sign-off, even if informal.

The whole 2020 off-season was a disaster and he's since been demoted.

No idea why folks are so willing to accept his performance. Assume it's because he's won a few Syds but really list management is where you need to be ruthless with your appointments.

I'm not accepting it, Im purely placing some balance into the discussion with some of those posts going as far back as 2018.

The club traded out of the 2019 draft in Oct 2019.

He wasn't at the club yet and I think some making out like he was some puppet master behind the scenes pulling the strings with staff he had never worked with, having signed a legal agreement with West Coast not to joint until December 2019 (after the draft) are putting a lot of mayo on history.

I don't think his drafting is the problem personally.

It's his list management/TPP management and trading that's the problem.

The contracts he's given to Stephens, McDonald, Simpkin, Zurhaar are far worse than any draft blunder imo.
