Standard internal trial. They’re never going to be highly skilled affairs. The upper level players never go at 110% and just get some increased intensity training into their legs, while some lower level players really push as they see it as their chance to impress. The history of these games is littered with players who step up in an internal trial and never go on with it when the real stuff starts.

Players got match play into them, showed a few glimpses of what they’re capable of, and will be better for the hit out. About as much as you can expect from these games.

Internals don’t really bother me. I don’t think the intensity will ever be the same against your teammates. It’s good for match fitness and to try some players out in different positions but I’m not going to read much into it.

I’m a big believer in the trial games against opposition should be played at round 1 intensity though, and for the players to really crack in, not the self preservation mode you are more likely to get in an internal.

If we get wiped off the park against west coast and freo I’ll be concerned.

I'm not expecting a punch on but **** me it should be play to win every time you step on the field, intraclub or interclub. Can't give a **** now when the 22 is being decided? Why give a **** early season? There's plenty of games to come. Getting hard to make finals? Ah well, always have next year, boys.

The attitude of our club and supporters is ****ing depressing.

I remember when intraclubs would have one team clearly stronger whoop the daylight out of the other one filled with sanfl standard players. Dont know if that means we have an even standard or everyones equally shit

Only saw glimpses but liked what i saw from Duursma. Has some really good form and now strength to burst not barred from injury anymore. Jhf did a bit if front running/walking/jogging think he looked a bit bored. Will be interesting to see when we play real oppo what his attitude is like.

The next two pre seasongames will be telling. Last year we lost to gold coast and there was a lot of “she’ll be right its just gold coast” and we go 0-5

Well it all sounds nice on paper but then you use the internet to look stuff up and

2022 Preseason
Gold Coast 13.17.95 d Geelong 11.6.72

2021 Preseason
Western Bulldogs 15.16.106 d Melbourne 10.7.67

2020 Preseason
Collingwood 13.6.84 d Richmond 6.8.44
Greater Western Sydney 17.7.109 d Richmond 14.11.95

So effort and performance and winning in the pre-season games isn't that important, we just need to sack the coach

Could we do both?

Who is gonna start the Play Dante Now, Not in 2030 thread?

Ken doesn't hate Dante.

The clash with Jonas should have been in the highlights.

If they just want Dante as a forward they can probably put him in anytime there is a spot. Mitch needs to get his shit together or he can start in Sanfl and Finlayson isn't going to get up.

If they want him to do a healthy % of the ruck along with it then you simply don't do that to him yet. Another pre-season then he's ready to go.

Dante gets a handful of games this year and it's brilliant going on his part.

Stating the game was scrappy "wasn't the way we trained over the last month or so"

Important Points

  • Carr likes how Teakle Jumps in the ruck and moves across the ground

teakle can jump but he didn’t time it properly once.

Lol at how easily Marshall dispatched a senior key defender in clurey. That’s great for Todd, but gee we are going to get smacked again by kfs this year if we rotate between clurey and McKenzie wondering why each is taking turns in getting molested by 200cm kfs.

I've said it a few times, but I don't think either are currently in the best 22. We lined up with Jonas, Burton and Aliir the last 2 rounds last year, and started that way last night. It might change, but it's looking likely Clurey and McKenzie will be in the SANFL come round 1.

Honestly we're undersized with McKenzie anyway, so lose zero with Burton instead of him and Clurey whilst slightly taller and slightly bigger, is still undersized compared to the big FBs and isn't doing the job anyway.

So I believe that the coaches are thinking get more of our strength (quality flankers) on the park, and stick with Jonas, Aliir and Burton.

Said that to my sister at Alberton yesterday. We're going to be scored against heavily.

McKenzie could be played as a small/medium back instead of DBJ and we lose nothing.

We talk about playing attacking footy but the fact that we have someone who can kick the ball like McKenzie and we either don't play him or play him as a deep stopper says it all about our intentions.

We don't play McKenzie because he'll be 31 by Round 3 and he hasn't played a good game of football for 18 months. He shouldn't even still be on the list.

And yet another guy who fits the same description, only 32 instead of 31, was confirmed as captain the other day.

I agree with getting McKenzie in the team but there's absolutely no way he can play on small forwards anymore. Doesn't have the agility anymore and hasn't for quite a few years.

He'd be the ideal guy in Jonas' role tbh but because they don't have a guy who can go on the Hawkins body types he gets stuck with a near impossible task. Been an issue since 2020 and here we are three years later none the better off.
