Opinion Port Adelaide and their Prison Bars

Seriously who gives a sh*t if they wear prison bars.

Sick of hearing about it.

Let them wear it against everyone except us, even if it's their home game.

How about we compromise and wear the PB's for our home showdowns (to stick it up the crows and remind the SANFL of our dominance), ANZAC Day (to honour what our diggers such as Bob Quinn wore) and for finals against anyone except Collingwood (because finals really are the endgame).

I would love our clubs to sign off on that and for us to wear the chevrons at other times.

Too many egos in the way though.

Hmmmm, let me think about that for a sec..... nah, f*&^ off.

Only if we can wear a predominantly black jumper with a big white CFC on the front for all games, including home heritage showdowns against Carlton.

CFC has been the initials of the club since day dot, it has a real emotional attachment with me and it should be shown.

Remind me again why Eddie thinks you deserve respect.

I see where you've gone wrong, you've mistaken me for someone who gives a rats what you think.

You're taking the piss surely?

Egos aren’t the issue with your “proposal”.

Not at all, that is a huge reduction to the original discussions before Max Basheer spooked your fragile club.
- No magpie.
- No PB's except for 2 home and away games that are obviously not against you, and finals not against you.

If you can't make such a small concession to find a position of agreement then you are unreasonable and let the courts decide.

Why do you want your club to wear it?

How about you wear your heritage Port Power jumper...the one you entered the AFL with.

Or just honor the agreement you signed. You can start by paying Collingwood compensation for the prison bar jumpers you sold breaking the agreement.

My compromise is simple.
Adhere to the signed agreement(s).
Like all good citizens should.

Why do you want your club to wear it?

Because as a kid in the 70's that is what I grew up watching.
That's also what my parents grew up watching us play in.
That's the jumper we wore when my late grandfather was on the board, when we won 6 premierships in a row, and he introduced Don Bradman as the guest speaker at the premiership dinner.
That's the jumper he owned the rights to use on our trotters each Saturday night.
Every childhood memory is in some way tied to that jumper.
Its not Port Adelaide unless in some way that jumper is included.

I respect the need to compromise, I don't need to see it every week, but I do need to see it sometimes on a regular basis.
There's no need to live in the past, but there is a need to sometimes be reminded of it and empowered by it.

Sign an amicable agreement that locks in certain agreed times and move forward.

Collingwood used to be my second club, simply because you were the club in that other state competition that wore the same colours.
I'd like to see that position return.

What’s unreasonable about protecting our brand against a club who entered the league with no history whatsoever?

I love the clear gaslighting angle from this guy though.

Calls Collingwood fragile, setting up a negative connotation and in an attempt to have the reader question their own fragility. "Shit, I don't want to be seen as fragile. Maybe we should let them wear our jumper". When in fact our stance is the opposite of being fragile - it's being strong and standing firm on a clear and well defined prior agreement.

Making unreasonable demands and making it out as if anything outside of the demands are unreasonable, another negative connotation again attempting to have the reader question whether or not they are being reasonable.
Then talks as if a need equates to a want, I hardly believe he will die because he doesn't get his wish.
Lastly finishing it up with how he sees us as if it reflects on the broader community, and as if we have ever cared about what others think of us.

The SANFL des not equate to the AFL. Anything you saw from the Port Adelaide Magpies was in the SANFL, where you currently wear those colours.

Look, you can see the prison bars every week. No one is stopping you.
So the club you grew up watching is still playing, week in, week out.
If you choose to follow the new entity in the AFL, then you have to accept the colours are different. As was signed off on all those years ago. And from what Eddie said on FC, was again signed off in 2020.
So suck it up, watch your favourite colours every week in the competition that they exist.

Will your brand disintegrate like in some Marvel movie?
Did it happen the previous times we wore it?

No history - you poor blinkered fool.
Any view to the history your guys made when they won an AFL Grand Final wearing teal, go watch the SANFL that's where the jumper belongs. It was never meant to be part of the AFL, we allowed you to wear it for historical rounds.......you're welcome BTW.,

The Crows are not part of the history of the SANFL, so not sure where the historical aspect comes into this.

I didn’t think this was a particularly big deal until I read the main board thread, now it’s obvious that a significant amount of their supporters would like the prison bars to be their main colours. Agree now that we shouldn’t allow them to wear it at all

If they got the 2 games to wear it then no doubt next would've been all their home games. You can see what their doing and it's very sneaky. You look at their jumpers on the weekend. No teal in it at all. Black, white and grey.

And when the team playing in the SANFL joins the AFL reserves competition?
And yeh I watch our maggies every week.

You love your club and identify with the black and white stripes. So do we.

There can only be one team wearing the stripes in the AFL, and it’s us.

You say you only want two matches, but if we agree to that, you will eventually want more.

We must say no, for the same reasons you say yes.
