Scandal Port Adelaide Player SPP Charged With Inappropriate Contact

This is an example of the shit people still in charge and or working for the AFL integrity unit and we are all supposed to believe he and they have the utmost integrity. Remember the Dustin Martin Chopsticks incident?

History shows the AFL Integrity officer interviews turn into their own spin version and don't do anything for the aggrieved party. She has been placated. If not go report it to the cops. Sam has suffered from the AFL ******* up the Dustin Martin chopsticks "investigation." back in December 2015. They ****** it up then and now have gone to the other extreme. Oh and the rooting around at AFL House and executives having to be fired also has an impact on the need "to look good."

.... Once the case was in the public domain and it was clear that more significant action would be required the victim was visited on her own turf, by a seemingly empathetic integrity officer from the AFL along with a representative from Richmond. But at that meeting, the victim was given the impression the offence was not viewed as a criminal one. Then when they presented to the victim her statement from the meeting it is understood she was very unhappy about several “falsifications” that played down the extent of her terror and the seriousness of Martin’s actions. One AFL officer has since been accused by those close to the victim of essentially monstering her; lambasting her for leaking and talking to the media and repeatedly questioning her evidence saying there were contrary views about how far away Martin stood while he threatened to stab her and what he said. They insisted that she come to AFL House to give a statement.

At that meeting the AFL representatives were said to be rude. Tracey was questioned about whether she was sure she wanted to proceed with her claim that Martin threatened to stab her with a chopstick, and warned that if she did they would have to refer it to police and it could potentially end his career. She was also warned that he could be charged with offences carrying jail time of 10 years. They then reiterated the warnings, giving the victim the impression that they wanted her to water down her complaint. At no point was the victim encouraged to bring someone with her for support or legal advice. When the AFL eventually referred the matter to police they did not bother to advise Tracey that they had done so.

On social media an AFL staffer used his private twitter account to release the information instead of the AFL’ s official account which has more than 500,000 followers. But the most shameful conduct, apart from Martin’s alleged explosion of violence, was to come on Thursday evening when the AFL actively briefed the media against the victim once the case was out of its hands. One of the investigators who had been the most aggressive towards her told her “we’ve washed our hands of this’’. How is it that these investigators, who are well credentialed former police officers on significant salaries, could be so ham-fisted in their handling of the case?

An integrity officer is charged with protecting the integrity of the investigation but their chief concern appears to have been to protect the image of the game. At best the handling of this matter has been incompetent, at worst it has been malicious in intimidating a traumatised victim. The investigators’ insistence that the offences were minor coupled with pressure exerted on the victim to water down her allegation, with claims that it could land Martin in jail, are utterly unscrupulous. As soon as the allegations were made why wasn’t it determined that it was a criminal matter that should be immediately referred to police? Why did the league and the club spend four days needlessly distressing the victim and potentially contaminating the case before they eventually referred it to police?......

and what was the result after a 3 or 4 week investigation - Sweet F**k All because the AFL butchered the investigation and Dusty got a a suspended $5k fine from Richmond.

So Gil pissed his pants a bit in January 2016 and then had a real big wet patch after his mates Lethlean and Simkiss were caught rooting around and had to sack them in July 2017. Gil in January 2016 a month after the Dustin Martin Chopsticks investigation and the AFL Integrity Officer ****** up things by verbalizing the woman and the AFL was embarrassed and Richmond said nope he gets a $5k suspended fine. Gil said they will review ergo change the policies.

Also on Thursday, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan announced a review of both the industry's "respect and responsibility policy" and approaches to dealing with allegations of intimidating, threatening or violent behaviour towards women. Victorian human rights and equal opportunity commissioner Kate Jenkins has agreed to oversee the review. "Our respect and responsibility policy was developed in 2005 and it is very timely to have it reviewed," McLachlan said. "We understand our responsibilities to continue to improve our approach to these issues, and I know we still have work to do to hold the respect and trust of the community. at its own initiative where it believes
there has been conduct that breaches
the terms of the R and R policy and where
there is an absence of a complaint.

I reckon they will go after a player if he ****s around with someone and it goes public that he has been cheating on his missus.

Remember the phrase used in today's statement about sanctions see Patrick Keane's tweet not the BS on AFL.com.au mising up the statement and Ports response - Powell-Pepper engaged inappropriate behaviour that is unbecoming for an AFL player by being intoxicated in a public place and making inappropriate contact with a female.

If the AFL is consistent it is going to be inundated with plenty of examples of inappropriate behaviour whilst being intoxicated. How many weeks does DUI get you? Going to a brothel when drunk? Cheating on you wife whilst drunk? and on and on

No-one has ever denied that, it's the language that has been used by a VERY biased reporter which will hurt SPP for the rest of his career and from all which has been released it appears to not be justified but just out of spite as he plays for Port.
Unfortunately this is normal behaviour for the mainstream & social media. They reckon it makes people notice them more.

Best thing players can do is stay out of trouble & give them nothing controversial.

In all honesty I don't know the answer to this question but what was the penalty that Goodwin got when he threatened the life of a photographer/journo during a drunken night in Hindley Street?

I'm not aware of that incident... but the days of the inappropriate behaviours of players being covered up when out in public are gone.

Everyone has mobiles with cameras these days, so players need to be smarter about staying out of trouble...which isn't a bad thing.

The AFL's official wording. It hasn't made any other finding, or used the word assault like ch 7, because there is no evidence of it, including 7 hours of CCTV footage.

Port's initial statement

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2018-04-25/statement-powellpepper-investigation-complete
Port Adelaide acknowledges the conclusion to the AFL Integrity Department’s investigation into an incident involving Sam Powell-Pepper at an Adelaide bar on Saturday 8 April.

The AFL has handed Powell-Pepper a three AFL game sanction, a sanction which Powell-Pepper has accepted.
http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2018-04-25/statement-powellpepper-investigation-complete

Second statement by Port's CEO and he has a presser tomorrow
http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2018-04-25/statement-keith-thomas
“This has been a difficult investigation for all involved.

“We acknowledge that it has taken longer to reach a conclusion than preferred and both Sam and the Club acknowledge Sam’s behavior was inappropriate and accept the penalty.

“However, there were many elements to this incident that needed to be fully understood before a decision could be fairly reached.

“We are looking forward to discussing these issues in some detail at tomorrow’s media conference.

“Of most importance to Sam, the AFLPA and the Port Adelaide Football Club was the AFL’s finding that there was no evidence or suggestion of sexual or indecent assault, as has been speculated by some media outlets throughout the investigation.

“We look forward to providing an accurate assessment of the incident tomorrow.”

I think we'll get a much clearer idea of where Port and SPP stand on everything during KT's presser tomorrow.

You honestly think so?

You don’t think it will be spun that whilst they accept the report they believe their is no evidence. Which begs the question if that is the line they take, why accept the ruling?

Nothing to be gained by letting it drag on further. The last thing you want is the young lady to take the matter to the cops if this drags on.

The only loser out of this if it continues is SPP.

Possibly, we'll have to wait and see.

A club imposed penalty because the AFL ****ed up its investigation in verbalizing the women. The club has the right to do what it thinks best, and the AFL should piss off. Just pointing out there is no consistency.

In all honesty I don't know the answer to this question but what was the penalty that Goodwin got when he threatened the life of a photographer/journo during a drunken night in Hindley Street?

He was forced to be Melbournes coach.

Pretty harsh penalty sure but he'll think twice next time.

Take it to the police. Bring it on.

They would ask her questions like “Why didn’t you notify security? Why didn’t you notify management? Why did you stay in the establishment long after the incident occurred? Was it really more important to stay out at a club past the 2am lockout than it was to report a case of assault?”

Couldn’t have been that big a deal if none of those things happened, could it?

I wantee martin suspended because i took her word as gospel, as i thought it would be insane for a tv news producer to fake a story. As my board loves to remind me, i was massively wrong

Dont let that stop you pushing the line however that the fiction did happen

You know all of this never happened because? I can see 2 of your statements that show you dont.

Couldn’t have been that big a deal if none of those things happened, could it?

It was big enough for her to go to the club.

There has been commentary surrounding ' if it was some random nothing would be said' and mostly thats correct. But I bet most here would believe her getting pestered and bothered and grabbed by a random drunk guy than if it was a random drunk footballer.

But you keep victim blaming

If she had done any of that, Powell-Pepper would have been tossed out of the club. Or at least they would have spoken to him about his behaviour. My friend is a former security guard, there are protocols for this sort of thing. But according to her, he kept doing the same thing to other girls, so it’s obvious she didn’t mention it to anyone.

I do know that a lot of establishments turn a blind eye to what footballers do because they want the publicity...Tony Modra pissing on a piano at Heaven springs to mind...but that still shouldn’t have stopped her reporting it, yet she didn’t mention that in her interview at all.

I believe he probably did it. What I don’t believe is that it bothered her enough to make a big deal about it other than to mention his behaviour to the club and have them discipline him...until your mate Elspeth got involved. Because if some random drunk had done it, the girl would have just thought he was a creep who had had too much to drink and moved on.

When did she admit she was lying? Links? I didn't care one way or the other at the time. My attitude then, like now, is that if it is that serious it should have been reported to the cops. If its not reported to the cops, you have to wonder how serious it was.

It was reported she gave dusty her card, and told him thry would make a tonne of money out of this, not something someone fearing for her life would do.

Again, i wasnt pushing the "he is innocent" line because i thought she had no reason to lie, and dusty couldnt remember shit.

Witnesses confirmed he was a drunk dick, but the stabbing threat with the chopsticks was fantasy

Curious you say you dont care, but you referred to it in your earlier post

Ok so where is the link to this story.

I did a search the other day around this and nothing came up. Ok I was mainly searching about the process, but I read several stories and no where did it say that the story was a complete fabrication.

I said I didn't care - ie at the time what his penalty was - but I brought it up to juxtapose the current investigation to this one and compare what the AFL integrity officer did then, and did now, and what their outcome was given the evidence gathered in both cases.

I will have to dig into it (the dusty threads were massive), and im at work right now. As mentioned it proved me wrong, so its not like i have an incentive to lie.
