Game Day Port Adelaide v Essendon Game Day Thread

Essendon, for whatever reasons have become a very good team. They have a good defence and better performed midfielders than us. Their big guys are also just that, big and strong - and play accordingly. Ours don't. They took big marks all day. We did not.
Have to get some size into our taller players, not to mention more presence.

Funny, when Watson went down, Boak had an opportunity to stand up and play the captain's game. Comfortably his second worst game for the year.

Hartlett just goes too many quarters without getting it. Not sure why.

Wingard and Neade were outrun numerous times today. We looked very slow.

know we are upset but lets just be realistic....our premiership window is starting to crack open...we are building for the future....everything we achieve this year is gravy / conference we can build on for next season

isnt it great to have this hope back at our club :)
There is a team not far from the Port at West Lakes who were pretty confident of the future around this time last year too.
We can't take anything for granted. We reckon we are on the improve but so does every other club.

Schulz has carried our forwardline for 3 years and has been regularly double/triple teamed this year, had some f'ed up structure, a new role higher up the ground, and some piss poor delivery to deal with. He is a more than capable focal point when we sort our shit out.
Agree as a lead up. Not as the big go-to guy

they weren't ****ing brave they were ****ing dirty, we have shown how good we are, be proud and not angry.

they will not play finals and we will.

Bad luck guys. If you'd taken your chances you would have won. You had all the momentum, I thought we were shot. You guys have done incredibly to turn things around.

Hartlett is a superstar, and Wingard and Wines are as good as any kids in the league. Bright future.

Thought Moore was a bit slow today

didn't like Pittard game at all would like to see him play a bit in the reserves to get some confidence and work on his defens.

Logan got too be cleaner, fumbled too many.

Lower body fat, quick recovery.
Recovery from actual soft tissue injury was the main thing that is believed was the goal. Not improved endurance on gameday.

Quite aside from the fact that literally no expert anywhere has said that there is any chance of whatever benefit that may have been gained (but wasn't because AOD does sweet **** all) persisting into this year. Sorry about your loss.

Bad kicking is bad football. A 30 point margin all told was a bit of a stretch considering the way the second half unfolded - but credit to the Bombers, we threw everything at them and they were far too clean in the end.

You can tell the people who overrate our side and who are realistic about where we are at in this thread. Essendon is a top four side. I don't care if Watson was out with an injury and Stanton is hobbled - that underrates the rest of their squad. Ask yourself if you would put Hooker, Carlisle, Bellchambers and Ryder in our side.

We are coming from a long way back. Last year we would have been absolutely flogged. We had our chances in the last, and we just couldn't get the job done. No shame in that. Yes, Hooker was a problem, but increase the skill level of our players with another good pre-season or two, and suddenly we don't have to worry about that any more.

The difference between where we are now and where we want to be is composure under pressure. At the moment we seem to run on adrenaline instead of being cold and calculating. That isn't going to happen with anything other than time and exposure to that pressure. At least unlike last year, I can see us actually making progress down that road.

Great post. :thumbsu:

I thought it was a great effort after a mammoth 2 weeks of football.
The way Essendon unsettled our players on an emotional level was very similar to the tactics used by the Bulldogs in Darwin.

The bold bit!
Too bad some of our own supporters cant open their eyes and expect us to win a flag over night.

AOD is what you've been caught for, god knows what else you've lied about. Whatever you do this year is tainted...everything is tainted. If previous years training doesn't matter then I guess everything is wrong, number of pre seasons in to bodies don't matter. That's bull and you know it.
