The bold bit!
Too bad some of our own supporters cant open their eyes and expect us to win a flag over night.

So that means we can't say anything bad about the performance?
The fact is
The starting lineup was short a KPF.
If we'd kicked straight, we would have won

Nobody is expecting a flag, but things can be improved upon and that's what's being discussed.

Some shit posts in this thread. Comparing this game to how we would have gone last year in attempt to justify how shit we were lol.

No, this isn't 2012. This is 2013, where we beat Collingwood and Sydney in consecutive weeks. We should have won this game and to be proud of this loss is a cop out to what we're capable of.

Don't know it it's been mentioned but Essendon's last game was 10 days ago. That's a fair advantage when it comes to running a game out. It's not all about Watson and Stanton.

Win against sydney and collingwood, close contest against essendon. I cant be mad. We made silly errors but our effort was there. We badly need another tall forward and a ruckman that can hit the scoreboard. If schulz doesnt goal, we lose

So what should we compare to?
We all agree how sh** we've been in past years, yeh?
In games against the top sides in the last few years, we were belted, absolutely humiliated, yeh?
This year however we have turned things around. Obviously we still have a LONG way to go.
But we are no longer being belted and humiliated. We are putting up a fight, challenging them, and competing.
Obviously it's not going 100% perfect for us just yet. We still have a lot of improvement to do, as tonight showed.

But anyone who isn't happy with the direction we are headed in, well, what can I say?
You obviously don't understand how things work.
It's a process. A long process.
Especially when you've fallen as far back as our great club did.

What would you have people do? Wail and moan and gnash their teeth and cut up membership cards? Sure we could have won and it would have been the preferable outcome but you have to be realistic about where we are and how we are building.

Out of their better players, Watson was probably the best option for them.
Had they lost one of their better talls instead of Watson it would have helped us a lot more.

But maybe not as long as it looked 12 months ago. :)

3 weeks ago into this run of 4 really tough weeks, I thought we would be 0-3 at this stage and I worried we would have been on the end of a couple of hidings. I will take where we are at.

We will have learnt alot from this game and that will serve us well in the future.

Mostly annoyed about Westhoff. Hopefully he didn't actually connect. Whoever he hit bounced back pretty quickly.

I watched it over and over again, and it was inbetween frames, but it looks like it collected him on the chest/shoulder, so while it will probably end up a reprimand, it wasn't an elbow to the head. It certainly wasn't a McKernan.

Why bother Ford, some people stop reading before the part that says "Finally we concede there can be honour in defeat, ...".

But there is a middle ground between being "proud of a loss" (which no one is, but never mind...) and carrying on like Chicken Little throwing his toys out of the pram because he has sand in his cloaca.

Needed more from our captain when it mattered (in the 2nd)

If there is one way in which I'll join the domesday squad, it's that I get a couple of degrees more worried about Boaky's disposal every week. There's just some kind of mis-calibration between his mind and his muscle memory at the moment.

:thumbsu:

Bitterly disappointed with not getting the win today, but we're 2/3 in our most difficult stretch of the year. I'm confident of a good showing next week.

We've come a long way, baby.

I don't care about how much we have improved, and how hard we tried. We were in a position to win that game and we didn't. Simple.
Last I checked, this is the mindset that made Port the best club in the land. Those of us who think like this are no longer true supporters though - how we have softened as a supporter group

I reckon Kenny would be a little un happy that it seemed we went away from tough defensive football to almost a shootout type feel, we started the game beautifully, but we couldnt match the end to end stuff and it seemed it gassed a few of our boys to.

I hate losing so I wont put this in the honorable loss catagory, bad kicking is bad football and 3.9. regardless of the second quarter, cost us this match

Back at AAMI, where no doubt Ken will have them pumped and looking for redemption against the Hawks off a loss, I for one am very interested to see how we bounce back vs the top team, reputations can be further enhanced next week. PAFC

You need days like today to learn about your list.
Disappointed but in the grand scheme of the year not terribly upset.
Could've, Should've, Didn't. Find out why and we are better. If we do the same thing without learning I will start getting upset.

My mate at game, the Essendon crowd thought hard done by. Commentators thought it ironic when Essendon crowd booed Monfries, when last week they said Eagles supporters worst ever for booing Watson. Quite a quirky mob those bomber fans.

Having gone to the game myself, I thought it was quite hypocritical.
