Port Adelaide's plan to use jumpers similar to Collingwood

Wearing prison bars all the time = pretty dumb idea, no point having such similar jumpers to another team.

Wearing prison bars a couple times a year as a nod to heritage = completely fine, I can't believe the AFL have a problem with it. Port should just wear it anyway and win enough games to the point where losing 4 points doesn't mean anything just to stick it up the AFL brass.

These are really the only correct opinions here.

“As long as they didn't want to do it permanently, or wear it against us.”

Took tou a while but it looks as if you have finally cottoned on to what Eddie and the Pies are really worried about.. that is, that if the power are given the opportunity to use the PB’s in showdowns then the next thing they will demand is that they are allowed to wear them at every AO home game.
I agree that you shouldn't be able to wear it permanently but I also think once a year at home games, never against Collingwood should be fine.

Maybe petitions from the fans that want it full time is hurting your chance to get it 1 per year. More likely that the AFL just favour the big vic clubs at every opportunity they get with there wishy washy rules and interpretations on the fly.

It's honestly the biggest waste of time.

If the AFL says no, then Port can't do anything about it unless they want to lose premiership points.

Then Port don't play finals.

Please, there is no chance of the AFL doing that due to incorrect uniform. Its not like they are getting any unfair advantage such as a salary cap breach or sending the players onto the field juiced up to the eyeballs

If Glenelg joined the AFL and called themselves the Glenelg Tigers and wore the yellow and black every week I'd be a bit miffed.

If Glenelg joined the AFL and called themselves the Glenelg Snobbybeachw***ers and wore the yellow and black vs the Crows and Power I'd be like go for it.

Maybe as a compromise they could do the prison bars with teal instead of white to incorporate the power bit. Sure, it'll be similar, but so are Essendon's and Richmond's traditional jumpers.

Took me a while? I literally said in my first post...

Just let them wear it a few times a year. It's really not a big deal.

Then two posts later...

As a Carlton supporter, I love the history of our jumper. I also have no issue with the GWS being very very similar. I don't care how often they wear it, but obviously not against us.
I see no issue with Port wearing the prison bars 3-4 times a season, for home games, but obviously not against Pies.

Then in a reply to you...

I wouldn't think that it would become a full-time outfit, and obviously NEVER against Collingwood

The only one who seems to be taking a while, is you.

Keep fighting, wear it and take the four point hit every time it gets national headlines it makes Collingwood and the VFL look more and more ridiculous. If you ask any casual fan or lay person whether a team should have monopoly over colours in games they aren't even involved with they would laugh. The David v Goliath narrative is always a winner with aussies too.

Keep fighting keep making the VFL look like a Victorian centric cabal. One day there will be more non Victorian teams than Victorian teams, it's inevitable. Soon Port will be wearing the "prison bars" and poor old Eddie and his VFL dinosaur buddies will be dead in the grave, a sad footnote to the origin story of the truly national competition that will arise once they are gone. Play the long game we will win.
Hahaha... wow, you really do believe the BS Port Adelaide as a club have suckered you in with..

Especially if you think the AFL is gonna miraculously decentralise from Victoria any time soon!

do you often get sold bridges too?..

But in a closed 18-team League, there's no reason club's not to be differentiated

Yes there is a reason, and it's that one clubs fans overwhelmingly want to wear a guernsey they wore very successfully over 90 years before joining the league.

The arguments about agreements and Eddie and whether we're the 'real Port Adelaide' is just a cover for the fact that there's no good reason why, in a league where every club has a clash guernsey, two teams can't wear the same colours in a different design. Sure, if you were designing a league from the ground up you'd try to keep it differentiated, and in fully manufactured leagues like the Big Bash, everyone wears a different colour. But you're talking about a football club with 150 years of history, with the vast majority of it's success coming in one guernsey design.

I used to be one of those people who thought it made me reasonable and above the fray to just say 'who cares? It's just a jumper'. But then I realised I was a complete muppet.

You can't have two teams wearing the same outfit. Orange and white logos are pretty different, unless you're colour blind. Prison bars are nearly identical. It just makes the entire league look like an amateur clownshow, not just Port and Collingwood.

It's good that they are finally putting the foot down on this nonsense.
Like the epl clown show that’s got
10 billion dollars for 3 years of tv rights
Manchester United have a black and white clash strip that looks nothing like United’s red and a lot like Newcastle’s.
What’s a clown show is one club deciding what another club can and can’t wear.

You’ve been wanting to wear it for years... stop being a sook
I didn’t sook. I merely asked you a question as a response to your irrational trolling of port supporters in this thread. Yes we have wanted to wear it for years. We have been petitioning the afl to make a decision. They have now, we will see where port decides to go from here.

Why not permanently? The only time they shouldn't wear it is away games against Collingwood. I have no issues with forcing Collingwood to wear a proper clash guernsey when they play them in Adelaide

You're taking the piss if you don't see why Collingwood wouldn't want a huge part of their brand, black and white stripes, to be adopted by another club because they want to relive past glory. If a club wanted to wear a black guernsey with a yellow sash going the opposite way of Richmond's, I'd be very surprised if the Tigers didn't kick up a stink.

First in, best dressed. Collingwood has been the team of black and white stripes on the VFL/AFL, and Port should embrace their Port Power identity with the teal and such, or find a way to integrate the "prison bars" without enroaching on another club's identity.

I honestly can't wait til they ship your tinpot club off to Tasmania.

It's called maturing as a league and evolving and when supporter led movements get big enough change happens. I mean just this very year they introduced three new rules which changed the very landscape of the game which you would think would be more sacred than the ever changing guernseys of the AFL teams. BTW saying the AFL isn't short sighted and illogical is in its self the most laughable thing in this thread.

There is nothing 'mature' about it. It is simply a strategy to maximize revenue that is attuned to the tastes of its audience. The AFL, correctly in my view, doesn't view this approach as currently viable in a small domestic league with a unique culture, preferring to siphon off away/clash strip merchandise sales but protect the primary image associated with certain clubs. The AFL could 'mature' and end up f*cking itself if it decided to degrade these brands that have been cultivated for more than a century.

If these brands don't matter, then why is Port so desperately trying to fight for its historical guernsey, why is Collingwood so desperate to tell them to piss off, and why is the AFL threatening to strip them of points? Because they ultimately do matter to the bottom line. The AFL doesn't want to potentially harm one of its biggest clubs and is therefore acting rationally.

If people took off their 'Collingwood bad' blinkers, you'd recognise that this is about the AFL making a sensible decision that suits its own interests and has absolutely nothing to do with 'listening to Eddie' or other such nonsense.

But the AFL isn't always so logical, as I also clearly acknowledged.

You should keep crying your little eyes out online and see if that solves this guernsey problem for your club. I'm sure it's very helpful.

You knew the contract and Collingwood were good enough to allow you to wear it in your so called 150 year anniversary. You got what you wanted and now you are trying to push for more. Collingwood are pushing back now because you don’t obviously appreciate what they did for you last year. You signed the contract, nobody forced you too. Either go to court and get it changed or shut up about it. Until you get it changed at court just stop the sooking
