I seem to recall when Gupta made the announcement of sponsorship he said he was paying it out of his personal finances and the Company was not actually involved.Wonder if GFG have been paying their sponsorship?

I follow City pretty closely and the parallels are a bit spooky on and off the field.Interesting that our revenue rivals a top championship club like Norwich.

You would hope so but when the people in charge of making that decision would be effectively signing the death warrant to their own power over the club...............well I wouldn't hold my breath. When we clear our debt next year, I wonder if pushing to own our AFL licence, or at least get a guideline will be next.
That's batshit crazy for a coach to accept and they would never articulate a message like that to him or anyone else in the coaching group it's basically writing off a season(s).The retaining of Hinkley by the board has been steadfast.
Could it be he’s had the devoted support because he accepted lack of funder to his department so debt could be smashed. On field ultimate success not a focus until it’s gone

Ken's many things but you wouldn't even get to finals let alone prelims with that doctrine. With his continual renewal plausible
lol it's a government agencyAs with everything to do with this club, it feels like we've been hearing the same message for a decade.
Debt reduction aside, how is anything about our club improved from the end of 2014?
Financially stable, mid table off field. Stable on the field with no dramatic ups or downs - mid table to slightly above mid table the entire time.
Same Chairman, half the board the same, CEO promoted from within, same football manager, same recruiting team, same senior coach.
It's all the same people delivering the same messages and we never seem to get closer to actually winning anything.
Then just imagine how we would be if the club had grown some balls and gotten rid of Stinkley two years ago!So did all the people who dropped their memberships to "hit them where it hurts" suddenly sign on again when we got deep into finals? or did they just grossly overestimate the impact of their sooking?

Yes indeed. It's all fiction until RussellEbertHandball reports in.
As long as his personal paycheque wasn't affected, I would think he wouldn't give two sh*ts. He was the only AFL senior coach to demand the kpi's be removed from his contract when the afl mandated cuts to coaches' wages during covid. The retaining of Hinkley by the board has been steadfast.

Yes indeed.
I'll let the financial gurus pick apart the financials to determine the veracity or otherwise of what the club is telling us.
Given how prone to emotional outbursts/throwing others under the bus when he's under the slightest whiff of pressure, I'd have thought Ken would've let this sort of clandestine arrangement slip by now.The retaining of Hinkley by the board has been steadfast.

I agree. On the other hand, "middle of the road" is way better than "basket case". Credit where is due. Doesn't mean we should aim for more though. There's no denying that all of the numbers are trending in the right direction. We are generating profits, paying down debt, revenue continually moving higher.
My biggest concerns are:
1) Revenue growth in the last couple of years has largely been derived from membership price increases. Whilst from a purely financial perspective this is fine and indicates a sticky product, it does make all of the 'Thank You True Believers!' and similar propaganda somewhat awkward. We are customers. Woolworths increase their prices to protect their margins but they don't call me a 'True Believer'. Make no mistake, in the absence of other significant costs of doing business, the price increase on your membership is predominantly to fund their pay rises.
2) Whilst our numbers are trending in the right direction, they are doing so in the context of all other clubs doing the same. You don't hear of any clubs in financial crisis like you did in the past. All clubs have massive membership numbers, most are debt free or close to debt free and most are turning profits each year. We are a middle of the pack club financially and it's not a particularly special achievement.

We were top 5 for home attendance in 2024 which includes the two finals, obviously national appeal and away figures are where we don't draw the eyes like say Sydney but the rhetoric we are some small middling club is ludicrous and lets people off the hook.Isn't this the off field equivalent of 'remember 2012'?
My recollection is that we were relatively high up at the start of our AFL existence, slipped to middle of the road and then to basket case - and that a lot of these issues were structural and related to the SANFL and Football Park.
Our natural place in the pecking order seems to me to be middle of the road - bigger than the small Victorian clubs and the NSW/QLD clubs bar Sydney, smaller than the rest. I don't think it's necessarily an achievement to be sitting in that spot, but that's just me.
We are what we are in terms of support. We exist in a state of 1.7 million. You can talk about "national expaosure" etc but the bulk of our support will always come from SA. We are consistentlty ranked in bottom 4-6 in terms of supporter base. If you exclude the expansion teams its bottom 4. We get no favours from anyone. I think we have gained a lot in terms of evening up the support in the state. It is no where near as stark as it was 20 years ago. It is basically impossible for us to get to West Coast or the Big Vic clubs, but we definately should be bench marking against the likes of Hawthorn, Freo and Geelong.Isn't this the off field equivalent of 'remember 2012'?
