Win Prizes Port, Pies & Saints 2024 Death Ride

There are some rule changes, as it's my baby and there has been some... disappointing opinions in here. The thread is for cheering on picks, you deathride or you have civil conversations in the non-freo thread.

**** Port, **** Pies, **** Saints!!!!

Hmmm just don’t forget we need to get 3 more wins too…. To get to 13 wins.
That's our problem, not the deathrides and really, if you aren't half glass empty, it's a good result to keep Geelong down as well

We should win the games v Dees and the eagles at home getting us to 12.5 wins.
At that point surely we get across the line in one of the remaining 4 against bombers, GWS, cats and port.
I’m pretty confident overall but still, a bad day at the office tomorrow would make things very nerve-racking.
GWS away probably the toughest game left

Richmond just dont have the talent unfortunately. No problem, we knew this was coming. Assuming Port lose to both Carlton and Sydney, they still need to beat at least two of Adelaide, Melbourne and Us which on current form you'd say is very unlikely and there is a decent chance they'll need to win all of them to guarantee finals with their meh percentage

Essendon let us down and look like missing finals but possibly Dogs and GWS are playing well enough to lock a spot in anyway. Leaves just one unanswered top 8 spot between Melbourne, Port, Hawks, Suns and Bombers

Just did a ladder predictor there and the suns have some soft away games v Richmond and west coast they surely win. That could get them to 13 wins potentially more.

We could find ourselves facing port in R23 where they have to win to play finals. Would be done game for the death ride!

Assuming the Pies miss finals, that is a dream result for us for a reigning premier.

Never thought it a chance when we made the trade.

Port missing would be even better.

But, I feel like we will trade 2-3 first rounders out to have a crack at a flag next year, so the picks aren’t as exciting as they may otherwise be.

If we get a hypothetical pick 7 we could easily trade that for 2 firsts. Downgrade one this year and a future first next year.
We’ll have so many options with teams frothing for our picks.

I think we take care of Geelong withiut an issue. Port is at home so we should be favourites. Even the bombers are gettable. Especially at the G. We won’t win out but four wins is more than achievable. Anything more is a bonus really.

If we get a quality addition and have a pick or two it would be ridiculous. Given we have three firsts and a low twenties pick, the draft will be froth worthy!

Just did a ladder predictor - I have picks 6,8,15,24.

(Pick 18 comes next year 😉).
Was thinking about this last night, whatever happens this season the club has a young team and a big draft hand this year that we can either trade part of for plug in players or just use to further bolster talent coming through.

Either way set up very well for the next 5 or so years.

Given we already have replacement for Fyfe (Johnson/Ras/Brodie) and Pearce (Draper/Davies/Murphy) on the list. The only list hole we have right now and near future is Walters (small forward) after that it’s just upgrading role players like JOM, Aish, Banfield, Sturt, Wagner. It’s a pretty good place to be.

We need a better replacement for Fyfe, those names dont cut it.

No one can replace Fyfe, he’s irreplaceable, but there are others who can go into that position. Johnson is a very, very gifted footballer and will only get better as he matures. He can play the role and do it well.

Sure, hes gifted. That doesn't mean that he can play a role that will be a key piece in a premiership tilt. If we were set for Mids we wouldn't be chasing Warner as hard as we are.

Walter's replacement and a Winger are the obvious ones.

Johnson is easily good enough. He's not going to be Fyfe but 99.99% of players aren't.
Given the reticence on Murphy and my doubts on Davies I wouldn't be adverse to maybe another project KPD in one of the next 2 drafts, hopefully from WA or either SA or Vic Country, to have that future hole plugged.

But yeah, Small Forward, daylight, Winger and goal kicking/line breaking mid are, the current priorities.

It's not necessarily Fyfe we're actually trying to replace though: The Fyfe we're all thinking about hasn't actually existed for 4 years and we've built well around that. Current Fyfe is more of a role player than an impact player. What we're looking for is that line breaking bull who can go forward and kick a few. I actually think JL has put a focus on developing this in the last 6 weeks by rotating all the starting mids through the forward line and trying to develop that in our current stocks.

Of everyone we have: Young is currently the closest to that. If we add a Warner then our midfield essentially becomes next to impossible to shut down entirely due to the sheer versatility and damaging nature essentially always starting one or two forward or off a wing (essentially covering every list hole we have with one trade rather than 3).
