There are some rule changes, as it's my baby and there has been some... disappointing opinions in here. The thread is for cheering on picks, you deathride or you have civil conversations in the non-freo thread.

**** Port, **** Pies, **** Saints!!!!

i think we are going to look back and be incredibly thankful to Schultz for giving us the opportunity to get Cooper Simpson.
… and a top 10 pick. Pies looked old and slow on weekend. Premiership hangover material. They have swans, lions, port, saints by round 6. If they lose 3 of those kiss top 4 goodbye. Lose all of those kiss goodbye to finals.

Realistically the pies will atleast make the prelim so it'll be pick 15 onwards

1 game doesn't set the tone for the whole season especially if that game is against a GWS side that is no longer weighed down by Leon Cameron

That is a just a bit wishful. Can see them being second part of the 8 but missing out would have to be small likelihood. I’m predicting 4th, 5th or 6th (around pick 13-15). That in itself is considerably better than pick 25.

Collingwood are playing Port?

On the surface I probably agree but we all would’ve said the same about Geelong last year.

Collingwood were statistically one of the worst premiership teams ever winning lots of games by under ten points. There’s a lot of skill but also a lot of luck in that - what if their luck runs out.

Wouldn’t rule anything out at this stage.

Just wanted to quickly point out we got two selections for Schultz.

After a pick upgrade we’ve basically traded:

Lachie Schultz and F3 for Cooper Simpson and F1. Let’s just see how the F1 pans out.
Shultz for Cooper Simpson would be a massive win by itself. It's alllll cream baby.

I loved me some Shooter Schultz but he was an honest toiler who you prize most for his tenacity and spirit. Strengths being weaknesses, someone who plays with such naked emotion is also the first to let it all go ****-up, mood wise. I have never seen someone let it get to them so much.

He’ll want to hope he snags a couple for the Pies soon or he’ll turn on himself more savagely than the ferals will.

Simpson brings the same freakish intensity but has speed, skills and, to my eyes, the correct degree of psychosis.

I’d say it won’t take long before we can claim a win here.

Oh I was also impressed when I got down for a training session, and I really like the look of how Simpson hits a stoppage at speed.

I'm just saying potential is great, but Schultz actually contributed a lot to our team and is quite a loss, so those saying we're way better off are just getting ahead of themselves.
I thought Bewley was a better chance of making it than Schultz, yet I was clearly wrong and Shooter kept improving.
I still relish that close one against Richmond where Schultz took that great mark late in the 4th and slotted it.

If the circumstances of Schultz leaving were a little better, i.e early notification to the club, not choosing the premier of all teams, etc. I'd be wishing him really well.
As it is I'm conflicted, but I do very much hope Collingwood go out in the first couple of weeks of finals and get us a reasonable pick.

TLDR; the trade could end up looking very good, we just don't know yet.

Schultz for Cooper Simpson and 1st Round pick

Jackson for Matthew Jefferson and Caleb Windsor (+ some of Tholstrup but let's ignore that)

Would we ever have thought we could lose Schultz and the value Melbourne got for Luke Jackson might end up lesser impact?

Simpson v Windsor at the moment - Jefferson v 1st Round Pick to come

Dunno I think Windsor looks very good tbh.

Haven’t seen Jefferson much and obviously don’t even know who our first rounder is.

Let’s remember we also have Luke Jackson and Max Gawn is probably Melbourne’s most important player. The rebuild has started before it officially starts but we may have been the reason that rebuild starts.

The flaw here is we wouldn't have drafted Windsor.

I'm talking about in future, not right this second. We will look back and say we were absolutely better off swapping Shultz for just Simpson let alone the other first rounder. I'm 100% positive of that. TBH your Bewley comment says it all so I'm not sure why I'm bothering to engage.

I'm glad to hear you're so perfect you get every call right.

I didn't think Bewley was going to be a star, just that he'd be able to fill a role while I thought Schultz was quite limited.
Credit to Schultz for what he was able to do.

Given how convinced you are you're right, not sure why I bothered to engage.

FWIW I never really rated Bewley but I kind of agree about Schultz.

He looked very limited in maybe his first season and a bit imo. It was pretty obvious late in his second season he was at least okay -after that he eventually became a very good footballer.

Schultz being very good is a stretch. He tried hard.

He fell in the bucket of banners, Aish and Hughes for me. Only place for 1 of the 4 in a premiership side.

He missed hicks and goals in his first game at Collingwood. Something he regular did at Fremantle. It’s his inconsistency in output that is his limitation.
