cornes has finished top 3 in tbe best and fairest 6 times and won it 3. hes only 28 but his role has changed at port and its not working

whoever gets him will get him cheap and will be glad they did

as for Walsh - he is virtually signed sealed and delivered - he was the first person port contacted when the AFL handed over the 9 million for extra funding of which a large portion was to go to the football department. There are some issues involving his family here in adelaide and he wants to be closer to them - the time is right, the money is right and the deal is right - lock it in im sorry to say for you guys

an announcement will be made when the eagles season finishes, which I hope isnt until early october - really cheering for you guys to go deep in the finals!

The draw of family i think is the only realistic reason why he would leave west coast, surely its nothing to do with money, even with the afl hand out west coast could beat any offer from port, and you'd be leaving a powerful club on the rise to join a poor club thats struggling a bit atm.

as for ebert ......... yeah well

Rumours have been rife for years that the Cornes Bros were a bit of a disruption to the team regardless of their abilities. The way they have been treated this year would seem to confirm that the club is trying to force them out. Given the complete lack of class at Port with little on the horizon, you would think both men would be valuable as on field leaders.

Wouldn't have them in a fit.

I dont put much stock in those rumours, especially about Kane. Remember the club champion at port is voted on by the coaches, and if he is continually up the top, he won it last year, then I cant see that he is the issue

chad on the other hand, perhaps

Having a famous surname in a small town rarely works out as the pressure is brought to bear. Food for thought.

Many of PA's problems were created by their previous coach having too much us and not enough me and them

Kane Cornes would be good get if you could drag him away from the influences within Adelaide. Unlikely given his stance which will mean 2 more years of issues at PA

Port's problems started at birth. How the AFL allowed the club to get a licence astounds me. Anyone who understands marketing would have known Port would never survive. This club is hated with a passion by about 80% of the SA football community. Trying to build a support base from within the remaining 20% of footy supporters, most of whom are not high end in socio-economic terms, was always going to be nigh on impossible. They will always suffer from lack of financial funding and support. The death rattle is not far away.

The best result would be for the SANFL to buy back the licence and re-brand the club as a broad based SA club - totally de-linking it from the Port establishment and not have PA officials involved for the next few years. That way the "new" club will be competing for support head to head with the Crows and with the potential for getting up to around 50% of the total SA support base. Maybe that re-launch should be started very soon and linked to the fresh start at the Adelaide Oval ?

I'd like Laidley. Proven to be a great game day coach and got the most out of his team at NM.

I used to think this about laidley too...

I don't think anyone can truly rate Laidley based on his Port time - a fly-in-fly-out arrangement can hardly be effective. Also, that club has had bigger distracting issues going on. A better measure of Dean was his time at North guiding a broke and under-supported team.

However, Laidley puts his family first, and thus a move to WA anytime soon may be problematic for him (that is why he did not move to SA for Port).

If he would move back to WA, I'd love him in a support role at the Eagles.

Re: ort to Make Massive Offer for Ebert / Phil Walsh

As some of you would know, I have always had a high regard for Ebert. He will still be only 21 at the start of next season and will continue to improve over the next 3 - 4 seasons. Ebert's flexibility will prove very valuable over the coming years. He is a quality kid.

IMO the Eagles will be interested in trading this year (and next) - but it will be more a case of trading Picks for quality ex-WA players. We need to consoidate depth in certain areas. We won't always be as lucky with injuries as we have been so far this year. However trading in players won't be easy, especially as GWS has made everyone nervous and has resulted in clubs tying up most of their players in long term contracts. That said. the "going home" factor is a strong pull that clubs find hard to fight. Time will tell ....

I guess they just didn't want yet another soulless new franchise without a history or roots in the community other than the Johnnny come lately types.

If Port closes down their supporters walk away and you're then left trying to cannabalise the Crows supporter base to find fans for a new team. Not smart.

We may not have a soul but at least we are successful and will survive in the long term ;)

It can be done getting a new fanbase, after all our fanbase was cannabilsed when Freo came into the competition and they are now financially secure and stable with a loyal fanbase.

Clearly some don't, but as the supporter of one that does, we are very much keen to keep it.

I think supporters of shit clubs only use the term 'soul' as it's the only thing they can use in an argument against powerhouse/successful clubs like West Coast and Adelaide.

Port Adelaide are physically dead so I guess you believe in the 'soul' living on in clubs like some believe with people. Makes sense.

Seriously, you can't have that much 'soul', rich history or relevance if you get 10,000 people at a home game and have a line of players wanting out.

Tread carefully with this soulless and soulful line, unless you want me to invoke my Assisted Suicide skills (for your posting) from COD. ;)

That goes for everyone, not just one team's supporters. :thumbsu:

How are the Power even related to the Port Adelaide Magpies? Different colours. Different name. Different league. Different board. Was anything the same?? How can you say it is the same club with the "soul" of the old one given all the differences??
