I think what happened...

Umpire was trying to establish if the ball had hit the out of bounds post on the full or if it yorked.

So he went upstairs to check.

The bloke upstairs thought they were trying to establish if it was a point or out of bounds. Realised it wasn't a point, and the message going back to field was probably confusing.

The umpire on the field assumed he was being overruled so went to out on the full.
