I was happy with the young players moore, jacobs, pittard, phillips all kicking a goal.Very happy with jacobs especially he lifted the side in that 3rd time going in hard and leading the way

One positive out of that disgrace of a game was that our 1-5 year players, for the most part, played well. Our 6+ year players, for the most part, were deplorable. So the silver lining is that we may just have a future.

Broadbent in particular was great today, it was almost a relief to see him crack the 20 disposal barrier. O'Shea was another one, chased hard and tackeld very well. I'm starting to wonder how he managed to slip to the 50s in the draft.

Apart from the pathetic atmosphere due to the poor crowd, I don't know what to make of the game.

Absolutely no semblance of team work and plan, but surprisingly some very good small patches of really good work from the youngsters.

There is a future with: O'Shea, Jacobs, Broadbent, Pittard, Moore, Trengove, Gray and Boak.

There might be a future with: Hartlett - if he gets one and Phillips if he learns to relax and take the ball rather than snatch at it - he got to some great positions, only to stuff it up.

There is no future with: Pearce, Salopek, Carlile, Pettigrew and Thomas.

Yeah, I like that post

It leaves us to discuss/ consider

Logan
Ebert
M Motlop
Westhoff
Surjan
Westhoff
Schultz
Kane
Chaplin
Pettigrew

Chad, Brogan. Motlop coming ot the end of it

You have your top 6, your new/ fresh/ young 6, and you rmiddle 14 basically, as your core component.

So what are we going to do with the core....they are the ones that we have to make a call on

quick comments

I was stuck sitting at a conference booth all day, just had this to refresh to follow the game- PJ and TSW and others, thanks for posting, really appreciated

I got to Listen to the call in the 4thQ and after for an hour- KBartlett and The Ox covered the game.

their takeouts

Were polite about us, discussed the coaching and skype, our diabolical lack of resources

said that there simply were no positives. getting games into young kids is not a positive. and they are learning bad habits from players, not good

totally lacking confidence, never seen a club with no idea how to kickstart

Primus is an interesting one. in their careers they've never seen a club go down when a new coach has taken over, normally there is a light on the horizon. totally confused how after winning 6 of 7 last year we are so bad now. said we won 10 game smissed out on the 8 by one game. but now we are gonig backwards. that confuses them

our good is okay but as bad is really bad (tell us what we dont know)

Kane, Motlop others shopped around last year, no one would take them

Pearce will not be playing for PAFC next year- as in you cant keep him he can't stay.

Primus apologised after the GC schemozzle (where we were 42 points up 90 seconds before 3/4 time as they reminded us), this time THE PLAYERS should apologise

we're in a bad place, they have no idea what to offer for us, we're just taking bad to new lows, today was possibly the worst effort theyve seen from a team before

they didn't really talk about our structures of playing style, to be honest i've never heard a match day call where the commentators really only tales every 10 seconds, sort of called a few of the plays, spoke about other things, it was very surreal, as though there was a stretcher on the field and there was no play going on. must have been a surreal non-game for those there too

said Freo only had 25 players to choose from due ti injury and coming off tghe derby last week, did really well, said they took Pav and Sandilands off and iced the game, said would be a 100 pointer if they tried, the score flattered us

Unless he walks himself, not sure how you could imagine that happening.

If Chad Cornes cannot get a game ahead of that lazy, disinterested spud Alipate, then I hope he does walk out because he is taking the piss out of every one of us.

Ah, they also said Chad will probably walk this week. If Chad can' get a game in that team then something is seriously wrong and he'll probably call it himself by walking/ retiring.

As for Primus, I don't doubt his desire, effort, sincerity or effort

But I called it after that Saints or Bulldogs game last year (the 1st of them can't remember which one)

Primus is shot. When it gets tough, he doesn't know how to react and just sits there like a deer in the headlights.

I don't think he'll make the season without checking himself into a stress clinic. I actually feel sorry now, which is why I don't go all toxic in my posts much lately. I mean its not like I have to justify anything I've been writing for 4 years is it. I mean I've been proven r100% right in pretty well most everything I've been saying

Captured this clip from the game, amused me.

Turn the volume up and listen for the comment from the guy in the crowd.

Was it one of you guys?

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/super-scoreboard?match_id=10310903

We played roughly 8 guys with 20 or less games experience.

Pittard, Hartlett, Moore, Jacobs, Trengove, O'Shea are what? 19/20 yrs old?

... but our bottom 9 possession getters... all established players.

Primus cut dead wood at the end of last year and couldn't really do too much more. It's obvious who needs to go but we have to be patient.

90 points is pretty good considering we were really bad and our senior players did f all as usual. We struggled to kick that last year even when we played half decently.

Just need to keep playing these guys and get Butcher/Young in when ready.

great post and good points

move on pettigrew, salopek, pearce, chaplin, rodan, chad (hmm), motlop, one of logan., thomas, yes, makes a difference agree

but do you think Primus is up to leading them? thats the big question

Also, just because they are young, does not mean they are/ will be any good. can't be ignored in all this it may explain part of the poor performance, but does not mean anything will change or improve

we saw with GC what young players with energy and enthusiasm are capable of. are we sure primus isn't coirrupting these kids now playing them alongside the duds we all know?

Interesting game.

Dont think our coaches have this right at all.

Chad out is inexcusable.
Brett Ebert being DROPPED is inexcusable.
Jacob Surjan out is inexcusable.

Matty in his presser said that Surj and Chad would have made no diifference today ... he didnt specify what position they would have been no good in?

Ebert out was for balance - needed an extra runner-hence Oshea in:confused:

This is one of the best posts I have seen in the Port Board for a while. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

First, dont shoot me, I come in peace...

Other teams have been here in the same position. Adelaide were crucified last year, but had heaps of young players playing. Even tomorrow Adelaide will have 11 players with 20 games or less playing, results will be patchy football with good and bad results. Port are keeping up with teams and being smashed in sections.

But I completely agree with the above post. Cut the dead wood. Not playing Chad is stupid, all its doing is wasting a list position that could be used to develop another player. Play him or retire him. Brogan will probably need to retire, Port should delist any other rucks who are not showing anything, and probably look to trade some established players for a new ruckman who can shoulder the load until others develop. Thats just the beginning. Sometimes its easier to smash a building down and start again than patch up the holes and cracks.

Too early to tell, hard to get them playing well when the senior players are just sucking balls, you have idiots around you in the box and you're trying to get a new gameplan working when players are unfit for a lot of diff. reasons.

We just have to wait and see what changes he makes at the end of this year.
Also, just because they are young, does not mean they are/ will be any good.
Yea, note I left out Hitchcock and Banner... don't think they are good enough despite the fact they'll dominate the SANFL every week. All of the guys who played look like they have the tools to me, cept maybe O'Shea.
Matty in his presser said that Surj and Chad would have made no diifference today ...
They probably wouldn't have. Those who have actually seen Surjan play in the SANFL and not just looked at the stats understand why he isn't getting a game.

Chad has a good 3 or 4 games left in him, not a season.

I think both are better options than Pearce and Salopek, but can't play the roles those guys do. It's hard to find a spot right now.
Ebert out was for balance - needed an extra runner-hence Oshea in:confused:
O'Shea is a runner. He's 190+ cms but he can play anywhere. I don't like his little chippy kicks though.

Exactly.

What's to say we won't be saying: "BAWWW, move on Moore, Pittard, Jacobs, Butcher, Trengove!!!1111" in 2-3 years' time?

I think it's more than just a coincidence that practically every 23-27 year old player on our list is coming in for serious criticism this year.

I mean seriously, WTF is going on?

Chaplin, Carlile, Salopek, Gray, Boak, Westhoff, Surjan, Pearce, Kornes, P. Stewart, D. Stewart - all of them have been awful or out of the side or "TRADE/DELIST!" at one stage or another this season.

Why?

They can't all be suddenly irredeemable and it can't all be their fault like some bizarro hive mind - and what's to say our current kids won't turn out the same once they leave the infallible sanctuary of freshly drafted youth and they don't fit whatever the hell profile our football department and coaching staff wants?

Good points and even better questions. Along similar lines I see;
. KCornes dropped because he is not adapting to new gameday instructions only to be amongst BOGs against freo in his traditional tagging role on Hill. What has been learned?

. Pearce dropped because not following coaches instructions. Communication sited as the problem. Are other players now confused?

. Surjan, a backman, into the forward strucure, destabalises our defense. If unfit, why play him at all? What point has been made?

What is being said to the whole squad to unsettle even our most consistent contributors? If there is one thing every elite sportsman craves its to play/compete. I have no doubt this playing group (many whom got us into a GF) is exactly the same. What inputs are they receiving that is making them play like this ?

that everyone here who has said it for 6 weeks was right. play them intheir natural positions. ergo the coaches are idiots- refer Salter as the metaphor for their pride

. Pearce dropped because not following coaches instructions. Communication sited as the problem. Are other players now confused?

refer schematics of our coaching instruction communication structure. string had knot. message did not arrive. irrelevent anyway. instinct tells you what to do when a player is running at you with the ball. Pearce has been drilled into coralling. that cannot be unlearnt in him, nice guy, but doubt he has the brains to do it. ditto carlisle and others

. Surjan, a backman, into the forward strucure, destabalises our defense. If unfit, why play him at all? What point has been made?

refer above. Primus is using him as a scapegoat is would appear
alienates fans who know he shoudl be in there as a defender- refer chad and position
its not at pride point so he wont come back in- refer salter
its not obvious to everyone- refer Kane point of natural position = demotivates players and fans. WAPower must be pretty dark on this one
can anyone on TPFP tell us what she is saying over there re why Surjan isn't playing?

good points, but lest we forget they are professionals, paid quite reasonably well too i beleive. my sympathies only extend so far. they are just as guilty, its their effort which is inexcusable, regardless of poor coaching off season drills (no reason they couldnt get themselves fitter) and intra game effort/ intensity.

what inputs...well, same primus as has been there building our midfield and rucks over the past 6 years. nuff said eh

Cheers brother... A lot of people here will stick through thick and thin, I havent missed a home game since 07... But it's tough. Good to see some support from a supporter of another team.

I know this is going to make me sound like a bandwagoner but it's tough heading to games atm. It's like a chore to watch the game because you're just expecting the team to get trashed. I don't care if Port lose every week as long as they're competitive. But when your losing by 10 goals or close to each game then it's pretty easy just to keep your cash in your pocket.

I made similar comments on Saturday to Finbarr. Although I do enjoy going to the football and having lulz with the guys I sit with it's very difficult to sit there week in and week out watching them lose by 10 goals. It's almost like "ohh I HAVE to go to the football today", and really us here that do go have to go because if we don't then then we will literally be drawing sub 10k crowds.

agree with both above

but if its the 2-10 gamers stuffing up, you go okay, at least im seeing it and they're getting game time

its the 70-`50 gamers who break the spirit of sitting and watching...having PAID to do so

I just watch the players which is what gets me excited about the games. Though I also only get to see 3 maybe 4 games a year over here, so its easier to get excited about it.
