Port vs North - Clash of the Titans

It's that time of the year again where the two minnow clubs in Port and North battle for the title of the most irrelevant club in the AFL.

This clash is shaping up to be the biggest between the two clubs since 2007. The respective coaches in Matthew Primus and Brad Scott are under the pump right now, and rightfully so. Both teams have stagnated and are treading water at present.

Who will prevail in this epic encounter?
Will this game set a new record for the lowest crowd at AAMI?
And most importantly, can North afford a plane ticket?

I guess the WA connections with our WA players and 1970's premiership players.

Fair enough. I haven't been following the game for that long so wasn't aware of that.

This will be the first Port vs North game at Adelaide Oval too. What do you think the crowd will be?

30k, easy kill for port, so their fans will come out in force.

Another year, another match where these two juggernauts lock horns.

What crowds are people predicting for this match?

My crowd prediction - 31k
One thing is for sure

There will be a bigger crowd at Adelaide Oval for the Port game this weekend than the Falafels V COLA match at Spotless on the same day :rainbow:

Really going out on a limb there given the capacity of Adelaide Oval is more than twice that of Spotless Stadium.

And yet you still cant fill Spotless stadium.

Pretty embarrassing when the away teams have more supporters at Spotless than the home team does

We're only in our 6th season in the AFL. Did you expect us to be filling the stadium overnight?

What do you think the crowd will be at this weekend's Port vs North game?

No one cares about AFL in the western suburbs as evidenced by the crowds at Spotless.

It's soccer/league/rugby territory in the west. We're doing ok so far all things considered. Growing the game in the west is a long term project and the crowds were never going to come overnight.

You will be saying the same thing in 20 years.

Declining crowds?

http://afltables.com/afl/crowds/2017.html

Port has the 5th highest average home attendance in the AFL this season

Guess where GWS are ranked? :$

2014 - 44,364
2015 - 42,929
2016 - 39,665
2017 - 40,457

After 7 home games the average is only slightly above last year's despite Port being a top 4 team this year. There's a clear downward trend.

You still haven't given a crowd prediction for this weekend's Port vs North game either. I predicted an attendance of 31k. You worried that it won't even crack 30k? :$

And here you are saying that the Giants crowds are increasing over time

Lets have a look at the last 3 years for the average home attendances

2015 - 10786
2016 - 12333
2017 - 11710

Why have the Giants home crowds gone down this season despite the Giants being a top 2 team?

What makes it even worse is that the Giants have played the big supported clubs (Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon) at Spotless already this year.

Imagine how bad the crowd numbers would be if the Giants did not play these teams at home?

Our crowds aren't increasing yet because it's a long term project. Like I said the crowds were never going to come overnight.

Also we haven't had our home derby yet. Port have already had their home showdown. That's something else to consider when comparing average crowds from this year so far, to average crowds from last year, for each of our respective teams.

Is this the same home derby where the Giant supporters are outnumbered one hundred to one?

Average only up because they've already had their home Showdown
that Crows fans sold out
They are giving away 3 game memberships free with a subscription to the local paper!
End if the year it'll be down again too

Seeing as though you won't give a crowd prediction for the Port vs North game - What's your crowd prediction for our home derby?

They have China though so it's all good. Nothing to see here.
