On the subject of taking players in the rookie draft, has there been any OFFICIAL word regarding the fate of our three remaining rookies?

Redden's sacking mid-year was announced through official (read afc.com.au) channels. The senior list delistings were all officially announced.

I have yet to hear anything or see anything on afc.com.au indicating that we will not be retaining the services of Elliott, Sugars and Bonnaddio.

Word on the street (ie this board) indicates that they've all been given the chop, but is there anything official to support this?

From that list these players arouse some interest from me:

Nick Smith
Joel Patfull (I think we are really going to target him in the PSD)
Matthew McCarthy

Bonnaddio has gone, think is playing with port melbourne next year. Not sure on the others. Joel patful will not be a rookie he will make either of the drafts. Keep an eye on angus lally for rookie list.

The Melbourne release on the AFL site, states that Bode has been retained on the rookie list for a 2nd year.
I know someone down at Melbourne and he told me a few weeks ago that Bode was staying for another year so I was surprised to see his name there.

Just my opinion:

JOSH WILLOUGHBY - No
NICK SMITH - No
BEN ECKERMANN - Rookie spot maybe
JACE BODE - Still at Melbourne
JOEL PATFULL - Yes
TRENT SPORN - No
LUKE BRENNAN - 50/50
KENT KINGSLEY - Can see you picking him
TOM RISCHBIETH - Rookie maybe
JOSH THURGOOD - No
JOEL REYNOLDS - God no
MATTHEW MCCARTHY - See above
LUKE LIVINGSTON - Dont rate him but might give experienced depth??
HARRY MILLER - No
PAUL KOULOURITIS - No
TROY MAKEPEACE - No
BRAD MURPHY - Maybe
IAN PRENDERGAST - No

TIM LOOBY - Yes

...why is that ?....as an immediate replacement for Hentschel and backup for an injury prone Welsh ?

he doesn't exactly come recommended in the "application" stakes.
Wouldn't dismiss Kingsley so soon. His early season form was pretty good, and he went off the boil at the same time there were off-field "difficulties" that were not of his own making and led him to virtually ask to be delisted. When on song he's at least as good as Welsh and not as injury prone. He could be a PSD chance.

If we pick him up... I will not support Adelaide Crows ever again. Well i'll still support them but not Livingston. He is a hack of the highest order, pushing it as one of the worst in the AFL.

I haven't seen an official statement by the AFC but know for a FACT that all have been "chopped"......

was very surprised you got rid of him, i rate him quite highly... good medium sized defender... i sat near the port officials at the south v port final and whilst he had 28 disposals i think i remember saying that about 20 were ineffective... i know for a fact he has had a meeting with kevin sheedy... and he is still a chance to return to play for the magpies if not re-rookied or drafted... i know he didnt get along with one of the port coaching staff either but apparently a lot of the youngsters didnt

Unfortunately Loobs likes the beer a little too much and doesnt train hard enough

I think we need to take both josh willoughby and rookie chad gibson. Gibson is a perfect replacment for basset and is puick and is handy up forward but needs to be injury free. Willoughby is all class but didnt fit into sydney's midfield style and lack of oppurtunities but found plenty of ball in the sydney leauge.

I was pretty suprised that Port got rid of Ezard. Thought he looked a pretty good prospect personally. Then again i am probably just going on the one game i saw him play.

I think Harry Miller might be a good smokey, he disliked living in Melbourne away from family and friends and I thought he played some good games in 2005 didn't see any of him in 2006. He has good goal sense is hard at it and is a good size and is Graham js first cuz, although talk is power are keen.

Gibson, IMO has to be a rookie selection for us. I am still confused as to why he was cut.

I wouldnt mind Harry M, we just need some pace in our forward lines.

Not sure about Kent Kingsley though, Scott Welsh is more than enough.

I too reckon Gibson may be worth rookieing.

Forget the talk of Kingsley, as we need KPP types. Gasper would be a better option, depending on his injuries.
