Pressure is on Ogilvy..
Nail the likely 2 first round picks we get for Danger and we come out in front..
Spend the million spare in Free Agency and it can set our club up for the ultimate success

So the pressure is on Reid and Olgivie you mean. Reid is in charge of the list management, especially trades, while Ogilvie is in charge of recruitment ie drafting.

Is that true though? Surely freeing up 7 figures worth of cap space would've been part of our contingency plan for this inevitable scenario?

2 things I've assumed: 1 - Having heaps of space is why everyone is super-confident of being able to match the reported 800k deal from Geelong, and 2 - we wouldn't be saying "everything's on the table" and "we'll ensure the best possible outcome" if we weren't factoring in larger million plus offers from other clubs that might sway Danger away from Geelong.

I might be very wrong of course, but it seems/feels like we're covered in that regard?

They're talking about the supposed melbourne offer $10 mil, not geelong's offer.

i think Rendell said something similar recently.

Honestly the way we were heading as a club I couldn't see us winning a flag whilst Danger was here and we kept getting mid range draft picks.
As much as it sucks losing Danger this will make us or break us..
We can also hopefully get 3 or 4 elite ball users into the club

If we collect 2 first rounders from Geelong, my only issue with using both of these draft picks on players would be that the rest of our list is primed to peak and challenge over the next 3-4 years. No matter how talented these draftees are they might not develop quickly enough and may not be of any use to us during that window.

If we go into the 2015 and 2016 drafts with 4 first round picks (9 & 13 in 2015, ? & ? in 2016) then I'd be inclined to use 2 of those picks to lure a couple of elite 20-25 year old(s) from another club. Depending on the age of the player(s) we pick up, this would have the added benefit of filling the talent gap on our list created by the Tippett sanctions in 2012 and 2013.

Yeah I realise, but you have to wonder how accurate that is. 1.6 mill a season? Really?

I would've thought we could push anyone offering around the million, 1.2 with this (i.e. well beyond Geelong's offer)?

Said this on a different thread and the more I read the more I think this is what you guys should do. Trade Dangerfield for 1st Round pick this year and next year (pretty obvious if you ask for a player it won't be who you want) and depending what GWS want for Hampton maybe a swap of 2nd Round picks this year.
Then you get your own first round pick and the first round pick this year you got from Geelong and trade for Redden and Aish (one inside one outside) both who can play straight away. Then trade your 2nd round for Hampton. Hopefully you get Crouch back for another inside mid.
I would look to trade Kerridge, Lyons and if you can Wright but only if you get outside players who can run and preferably kick too.
Now this strategy means you ignore this draft other than to pick up players that fit what you need rather than take the best player.
I'd look at Adcock to pick up as delisted free agents as a direct replacement for Reilly.

OUT : Dangerfield, Reilly, Siggins, Podsiadly, Martin, Dear?, Otten to Rookie list.
IN: Redden, Aish, Hampton, Adcock plus 2 draftees

This will mean you will have 2 first round picks in 2016 so you can get some better young players in a better draft.

Pick 9, Cockatoo and Murdoch? Won't happen but sounds fair.

I'm thinking best case is the often mentioned 2 1sts and Murdoch.
I think you are pretty close to the mark there.

I would prefer 2 first rounders than 1 first + Cockatoo anyway. Geelong's 2016 will probably be around 10 which is the pick that Cockatoo was taken at, but with the pick we can at least select you we want as opposed to who Geelong wanted. Plus a pick can then be on-traded for a player if we so wish.

I think if we go to the trade table it will be this years and next years first rounders. That's all they will offer, we could then maybe throw in our second rounder if we want a Murdoch type player added. They won't give 2 picks and a good player. Don't even bother asking for cockatoo it's like someone asking us for lever! Not gonna happen

He's not worth that as a separate trade!

Would you give up Lever as part of a trade to get Fyfe…of course!

If the club trades for Menzel/Mayes and Aish it fills the void of first round picks from Tippettgate.. 2012/13 first round picks

We need to target a current good, reliable, versatile second ruckman over the next 2 years.
Disagree. ROB looks capable and Jenkins is there. Can't see it as a screaming need. Late pick, maybe
